🪦 RIP Transmission at only 6500mi (2024 LCLC)

2024 GX was just recalled for the engine. Safe bet is to take the money and wait. We are seeing issues on both platforms and would wait this one out. If possible. I am making similar decisions now, but not many alternatives to the LC250 and GX550 that interest me.

Also thank you for sharing your story and posting a follow up. Most people don’t take the time while Toyota is looking out for Toyota.. so real information helps.
Yes! I just saw that engine recall!. I will wait it out. Thanks for the heads up. No problem about sharing the information. We all need to watch out for each other.

Thank you, I hope it treats me e well, too! The sticker price was $77k then a $1200-documentation fee, 10.5% sales tax, the rest were California registration charges . Everything here is ridiculously expensive. Leaving California in 18 months for good!

Congrats on escaping.

Now carefully consider the voting habits that resulted in the conditions you are fleeing, and do the opposite.

Was the Land Cruiser transmission failure issue on a special ballot? I must have missed it?

Maybe take out your misery elsewhere, this is a thread to celebrate our failed transmissions!

Actually the current state of the auto industry and the troubles faced by many new vehicles in the reliability department are quite directly related to shitty and stupid policies foisted upon us by morons who were elected into government(s).

Smaller displacement engines with forced induction, and very complex transmissions with a lot of gears are both hardware solutions to ever tightening and frankly unrealistic regulatory requirements for emissions and fuel economy.

You virtually never hear about 5.7L 3UR-FE’s or the 6 speed behind them in a 2nd Gen Tundra, Sequoia, or Land Cruiser doing anything but drinking a lot of fuel and routinely lasting roughly forever with adequate maintenance.

The new stuff not so much.

Had the same problem today. LC has 11k miles. No problems up to yesterday.
Waiting in drive thru line.
Felt a jolt, thought someone rear ended me.
The 3 warnings came on - "System maltunction", "Hybrid system malfunction", and "Drive/Start Control malfunction
Cruiser was stuck in 2nd gear. Drove to parking lot, turned off truck. Restarted now seems to be shifting normally. Error
"hybrid system malfunction. Visit your dealer".
Today no error message. Took to dealer said transmission solenoid problem. Dealer will contact me tomorrow

Keep us posted! Curious what dealer will say.
What year is yours? when did you purchased it? Any mods?
Did it still have the error when you drove it to the dealer?

At high freeway speeds (70-85MPH), if I let off the gas and let the car slow down by ~5-8MPH, then immediately press the gas to re-accelerate again, it feels like my transmission slips...

Its not every time, but definitely a common occurrence in my LC. hard to narrow it down since I have so many long, freeway road trip miles. has anyone else seen a thread about this issue? or does yours do something similar?

I have never experienced that.

Have you tried putting the LC shifter over to the left, into manual, locking it into a gear, to see if it slips?

Does anyone know what speed we should use for which gear? I thought it would be in the manual on pg 231 but it’s not there.

Unfortunately it isn’t that straightforward, so they’d never be able to provide that in the manual. It would be based more on RPMs, and would depend whether you need more torque (about to accelerate, hill climb) or more efficiency (cruising).

Wish I could say I was surprised. This transmission sucks. Been seeing quite a few people reporting on reddit same failures as well as on Facebook groups. Such a shame because the engine so far has been seemingly pretty good.

This question should be on a different subject. I posted about my transmission failure.
Welcome to the asylum.

Am I missing something here? Maybe PUI??

🤔 I was replying to Falconry, that I thought RideWithYanu’s answer to his question, was the correct info for his question, In post #94.

I was not replying to you.

Good luck getting your tranny problems sorted.
