Horrible noise when vehicle is stopped

When mine failed I posted a video of the noise when parked and shifting. I drove it to the dealer and it started to make the same noise at stop lights along the route which was really fun being in a brand new car and people looking at your LC like it's a total POS. :poop::ROFLMAO:
Well.. maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I'm about to hit 14K on the clock and it seems like my LC has had a few 'hard shifts' as of late. For the entirety of ownership, It's been smooth as silk.. No noises yet.

If it does start making noise, have regular hard shifts, take it straight to the dealer? I'd like to get the pump fixed before failing to keep any metal debris out of the rest of the tranny. I'm assuming this is a known enough issue at this point that a SA would be able to look it up and assign parts/fix?

Yeah id be wary without a full replacement but that seems like a tough sell to get Toyota to do it.

🤞 So far I have not had another issue but I do think about it every time I occasionally have a hard shift. I think that if it happens again then I'm for sure in the lemon law catagory.

You got the 'updated' part?

I thought there were several folks on here that posted Toyota held up their repair due to the new part being issued? Did I imagine that?

That was me. The dealer had all the powertrain parts ready to go, but they stopped that plan and then just installed the new pump. Toyota corporate was the one that made that call.

@Stage7 and I had the same dealer work on our LCs but I think he got the transmission, torque converter and hybrid power module replaced.

Did they include the updated part number for the pump on your invoice? (so it can be checked against previous part number)

TL;DR - Horrible noise when the vehicle is in gear and at a complete stop. About 14,000 mi on the odometer. No prior warning. Other posts on this forum suggest this is likely the electric pump inside the transmission. Dealer confirmed this is the problem. Waiting on parts now. More to come.

Last night after sitting idle waiting in the parking lot, my vehicle started making "the noise." No warning lights on the dash, no unusual handling from the vehicle only a horrible screeching noise whenever the vehicle came to a full stop. The noise would go way if I shifted the vehicle into neutral or started moving again. I took the vehicle for spin around the block to see if it would go way and also noticed that the oil pressure was going up and down fairly rapidly. I drove the vehicle home and parked it overnight in my garage.

This morning, I drove the vehicle around the neighborhood and within a few minutes the noise came back. I took a video of the noise, see below.

As of the time of this post the vehicle is at my local dealership waiting for a service appointment tomorrow morning. Once I know more I will update this thread.

UPDATE 11/10/25

I heard back from the dealership today. They said that it was the oil pump with the transmission that has gone bad and the entire transmission and torque converter need to be replaced. No ETA on the parts but they will be giving me a loner. I will be calling Toyota Brand Engagement in the next few days since that has seemed to help expedite things for other members of this forum.

I have to say I’m very disappointed with this news but I am very happy with the support of this forum. Thanks to the information I was able to gather from here I was able to “soften the blow” a little since I knew going into it that it could be a major issue. I will continue to update this thread as I go through this process so that maybe I can help the next person this happens to. Stay tuned…

UPDATE 11/12/25

I spoke with Toyota Brand Engagement yesterday. I have an open case with them at the moment. Apparently, they have a specific department that tries to track down back ordered parts. We'll see where that gets me.

The dealership gave me a loaner: a Highlander. Its no LC but at least it has AWD since we're heading into winter here in NH.

I'm not sure what else I can do at this point but wait. When I hear more from the dealership or the Brand Engagement, I'll update this post.
I'm new here.Thanks for sharing.

Hi, I think I’m experiencing the exact same issue.

2024 Land Cruiser 250 (1958), around 52,000 km.
Started with a siren-like noise when coming to a complete stop.
After a few days the noise disappeared, and then multiple warning lights appeared.

The strange part is that the vehicle drives completely normal:
no slipping, no jerking, no loss of power.

My dealer is suggesting it might be related to the transmission (possibly the internal oil pump).

Did your issue start the same way?
Did they end up replacing the entire transmission?
And most important – did the problem come back after the repair?

Trying to understand if this is a known pattern.

Thanks a lot 🙏

Sounds like the same issue. Simple answer, they only replaced the failed pump in the transmission. If you go back to the beginning of this thread, I posted a video with the noise so you can compare. Since the repair, I have put approximately 3,000 mi on the LC without any issue.

Good luck!

Thanks for the insight, that’s really helpful.
Do you know if the replacement unit you got was the same as the original one, or an updated / revised part?
Just trying to understand if Toyota actually fixed the root cause or just replaced with the same design.

Theres rumors of some "beta" part that doesn't actually have a part number but I haven't seen any actual proof that has happened other than the standard "trust me bro, I'm Toyota" no revised part numbers exist to my knowledge. I'd love to be proven wrong though. At best they possibly fixed a manufacturing defect or have a bad run of them from a supplier that had a flaw, but the part hasn't been revised at least officially yet. Bummer because every day it seems like I'm reading of another person having these issues.

Welcome to the asylum.

I hope you get it sorted.

Yep, I got the Full Monty.

Gotta wonder if they are not admitting that a new part was introduced into the supply chain as that would point towards a design flaw and admission of such. Also wonder if this will become a recall and/or TSB at some point? I know there are the 100K LC's out there already, but that may be due to a crazy amount of highway miles driven and not really cycling the pump all that much..

Well this happend to me today, same noise same issues. Mine was lurching forward pretty hard after coming to a stop and having this same noise pop up.

Dropped it to the dealer and they got me in a loaner Tundra.

Sucks but i guess its all covered under warranty. We will see what the dealer says. 2025 1958 with 26K Miles.
