TL;DR - Horrible noise when the vehicle is in gear and at a complete stop. About 14,000 mi on the odometer. No prior warning. Other posts on this forum suggest this is likely the electric pump inside the transmission. Dealer confirmed this is the problem. Took 6 weeks for the pump to come in. As of September 2026 I have put 6k miles on the LC since the replacement without any issues.

Similar threads here and here.

Last night after sitting idle waiting in the parking lot, my vehicle started making "the noise." No warning lights on the dash, no unusual handling from the vehicle only a horrible screeching noise whenever the vehicle came to a full stop. The noise would go way if I shifted the vehicle into neutral or started moving again. I took the vehicle for spin around the block to see if it would go way and also noticed that the oil pressure was going up and down fairly rapidly. I drove the vehicle home and parked it overnight in my garage.

This morning, I drove the vehicle around the neighborhood and within a few minutes the noise came back. I took a video of the noise, see below.

As of the time of this post the vehicle is at my local dealership waiting for a service appointment tomorrow morning. Once I know more I will update this thread.

UPDATE 11/10/25

I heard back from the dealership today. They said that it was the oil pump with the transmission that has gone bad and the entire transmission and torque converter need to be replaced. No ETA on the parts but they will be giving me a loner. I will be calling Toyota Brand Engagement in the next few days since that has seemed to help expedite things for other members of this forum.

I have to say I’m very disappointed with this news but I am very happy with the support of this forum. Thanks to the information I was able to gather from here I was able to “soften the blow” a little since I knew going into it that it could be a major issue. I will continue to update this thread as I go through this process so that maybe I can help the next person this happens to. Stay tuned…

UPDATE 11/12/25

I spoke with Toyota Brand Engagement yesterday. I have an open case with them at the moment. Apparently, they have a specific department that tries to track down back ordered parts. We'll see where that gets me.

The dealership gave me a loaner: a Highlander. Its no LC but at least it has AWD since we're heading into winter here in NH.

I'm not sure what else I can do at this point but wait. When I hear more from the dealership or the Brand Engagement, I'll update this post.

Make sure you look up the lemon laws in your state if you are prepared to walk away. Others that have needed to get the transmission replaced report waiting months for parts.

Sorry this happened to you, I know this forum tends to not like to admit any issues with these vehicles but there's been a growing report of similar transmission failures across different sites.

Good luck with whatever the next steps are. some have been able to negotiate extended warranties at no cost or initiate buy backs if you look around.

Oh wow!! That does not sound good ! Sorry to hear you’re having this issue..tuned for the update :) .. in the meantime can you share any info on the MY 24 or 25? Month delivered and do you know if it’s built in Tahara or Hino plant? Thanks

Big yikes. Sorry OP

2024 LCFE from the Hino Plant. Ordered 05/24.

@juuuiiiice Thanks for the reply...

It’d be great and maybe can help with the case - if the community could share some insights or stats on this — does anyone know if Toyota is aware of the issue and whether they’re silently working on a fix, or if it’s already been addressed in newer releases?

All three cases so far are 2024 Land Cruisers, with two being FEs.

Has anyone with a 2025 LC experienced a transmission failure ? or are most still below the mileage where these issues tend to appear?

Would really appreciate any updates or inside info from those in the know!

My 25 had a transmission failure at 3400miles

Sorry for that ...
Do you know when and where was it built .. Tahara or Hino...
did Toyota replace it?if so when and how long you've been driving on the new Trans.

Thanks

Not sure the build date, but it made it to the dealer end of April, Hino
Happened 10/4, and drove 1/2 mile to the dealer, they have had it since.
I think they are working on it now, through the app it says the doors are unlocked and windows open. Initially parts eta was end of Nov., but if they are working on it, it was obviously quicker, I’ve received no updates from the dealer. I have a buyback offer from Toyota and have reserved a replacement due in end of Dec.

Ughhh........I hope they fix it soon OR the lemon law in your state is a good one.

Sounds like a solenoid, probably the one responsible for changing between regen, hybrid, ice drive modes. Which at the moment Toyota has been directing full transmission, torque convertor and hybrid drive unit (motor generator) replacement rather than changing the solenoid/s.

Good Luck.

Hmm - not an mechanic or expert on that matter and subject but wondering if Toyota team knows if
1- the solenoid failure impacts one or all the components they’re directing to replace
2- or if they have some info on issues with these components and directing replacing them all at once to avoid future warranty claims
3- not sure if it’s just cost driven and it’s more cost effective to replace all three than fixing the solenoid- that would be a question for the CarCareNut :)

In don’t think we have the sage lemon laws in Ontario Canada .. need to do some homework…

Well the parts cost alone for my replacement is $22k, so it’s not a very cost effective fix

The solenoid replacement would be an 1-2 hour job. But a failure could cause a lot of issues if it was restricting fluid flow.

I'd surmise they are replacing everything early on so they can do full investigations into the entire system to determine cause, effect and what potentially gets damaged so they know how to proceed if and or when this becomes more widespread and they have to issue a recall or TSB.
