As well, Hino is completely out of Hamura, & Toyota now owns & runs the plant.
 
I’m certainly not suggesting that a Tahara built truck cannot experience a transmission failure. My point is simply that, of the transmission failure reports I’ve seen, all have involved Hamura built vehicles. I agree that the transmissions are produced at the same facility and distributed to both plants. I’m only speculating that there may be a production or assembly difference at Hamura contributing to these failures that does not appear to be occurring at Tahara.

It is my understanding that 6th Gen 4 runners are only assembled at the Tahara plant and 4th Gen Tacomas assembled only in Mexico plants. I found a 2025 LC250 with a Tahara vin in NHTSA complaints with a failed transmission (i'm sure there are others, I only searched 2025). I also read that the Hamura plant builds far more LC250's than the Tahara plant, although there are not any published numbers.

Also to note when service inspects the transmission they look for metal debris before replacing the transmission. It's hard to imagine metal debris making its way in from assembly rather than manufacturing. Not saying its impossible, just unlikely.

 
That sucks. Seems like the 8 speed transmission has some bugs to work out by Toyota. The failure rate is reflected in the time intervals for service/replacements. Certainly the factory is busy rebuilding and refining what the causation of these transmissions.
For Toyota corporate this problem has got to be a red flag fix to work out. Even the good transmissions seem to shift rough and clearly need some polish.
Wonder if my 2027 will be a problem with transmission. Is it on 1958 mostly or base or premium ???

When can I expect mine to have a heating or implosion issue? Or perhaps mine is in the transcendental “imploding ✨eventually✨ category? Can one ever be certain if their transmission is eventually imploding? If we apply the principles of General Relativity to this problem, is every transmission being freshly born off assembly lines around the world as we speak essentially just a dead transmission that doesn’t know it has already imploeded because time as the fourth dimension of our 3d world is also subject to relativity? Much to consider!

People keep telling me how bad the transmission is, but I run mine hard (don’t even have to follow the very simple instructions in the owners manual to avoid overheating) and am just not having any problems. Something must be wrong with mine.

They are both on the same drivetrain with identical transmission components, and we can safely assume the two have the same programming, so I wouldn’t expect any difference between the trims (unless MTS somehow induces higher trans temps, which I’ve seen no indication of).

There’s no doubt this transmission isn’t great at cooling. What’s in question is the overall rate of trucks which are having actual cooling issues. 🤷
