Rattle in Passenger C Pillar

Ugh. I've developed this in the driver side B pillar. 25 LCLC.

Sounds pretty similar to the two pillar videos above, and definitely only in hot weather. Just had my 20K done, so I'll have to take it in for just this issue. It's bearable but I worry that it's just going to get worse.

An update, I was able to fix the rattle by removing the factory roof rack and tightening the bolts for the middle anchor point (the one just above c-pillar).

I had to take off roof rack rail and remove the bracket for the middle anchor. Once removed, there were two bolts that were not as tight as the front and back anchors. Once I got those tightened, rattling stopped.

We have a deposit down on 2027 LC250, and then found about this. Does anyone know if Toyota has addressed and fixed the B/C Pillar rattles issues for the 2027 Land Cruisers?

Was your rattle ambient heat dependent? Mine seems to happen only when we get to about 90 degrees.

Did you put any thread locker on them or just torque?

Really hoping this is the fix for me.

Yeah but mine would disappear when it was hot. I just had to torque them.

Thanks, I'm going to give it a try and see what happens. With my luck it'll be the interior panels, which makes more sense with heating causing metal to expand, and exactly the opposite with yours causing the bolts to be slightly loose.

The tolerances are getting so good that I can see the temps at time of manufacture / assembly affecting things like this. We can see fractional differences in our CNC products at work if the ambient temps get out of limits.

Aren't the roof rail bolts supposed to be sealed? If they came loose i would suspect something deformed.

They have sealing fasteners. They weren’t loose, only not torqued enough.

I believe Toyota ships cars without roof rails and adds them at the port. So perhaps it wasn’t installed properly at port.

Some LCs have had dented roofs due to port roof rack installation. Different US regions will have different port installers/upfitters.

Just had my dealer inspect the noise. They peered behind the panels and saw loose plastic piece that was supposed to be solidly affixed to the rear quarter panel. They’re not sure if it’s the plastic or metal behind it. I don’t think I’m getting the full story though.

He said it’s just gonna be a problem until/if Toyota takes notice.
