Current trade-in values and a bid farewell

$57,500 seems low.
I think not, they listed for $59,962 today.

And honestly not the reaction and discussion I was hoping from this thread. Exact reason why I fell out of love being an avid forum contributor besides technical questions or troubleshooting brand new cars like this one. Lots of keyboard warriors and lots of butt-hurt egos in this thread. Forums are not a new concept to me (since college maybe have acquired 50K+ posts between VWvortex, Audizine, NASIOC, or whatever else I owned) and simply shared my short LC journey here. In retrospect, I should've just posted my parts to sell in the Classifieds and move on quietly.

Don’t mind them. They are certainly the most sensitive bunch . Most of the insecurity is coming from unanimously bad reviews this platform is getting mostly due to 4cyl powertrain and inability to accept the soft off-roader nature of this model compared to Jeeps, broncos , and raptors. With that said it’s got some advantages compared to any other suv in similar market that makes it a good choice for majority of the people :
Quiet cabin noise compared.
Good mpg
Real Torsen 4wheel drive system
Ability to use 4low without locking the center differential
2400 inverter
Much bigger Cabin compared to jeep bronco and defender
Toyota reliability
Newest design . All others have been out for 5 years
2nd and third row climate zone ( Bronco didn’t even have vents in the back until 2025)

As far as your complaints about the mods
FE rack is not noisy at all. Unless you are getting lateral wind .
Bigger tires will always be noisy. Your raptors k02s are noisy and will get a lot worse in 10k miles

I seriously considered purchasing a f-50 raptor 35 version when I got my gx550 since the price after discount on the raptor was essentially the same. I think the redesigned 3rd gen is the best looking car/truck out there. It’s got the most comfortable ride , amazing performance on and offroad . But it is too big for any off-roading outside of desert running and a bitch to park . I ended up with the gx550 mainly because I really liked my lc250 and wanted an upgraded drivetrain and love the ideal of a “luxury” suv with so much off road capability. Had I not had the gen3 when it first came out I think I would choose that over the gx OT .
For highway driving though, the Raptor is absolutely amazing and not even in the same world as the lc and gx

Awesome truck, OP! They always catch my eye on the road.

Talk about insecurities coming from someone who doesn’t even own a Land Cruiser, but still trying to hang out here instead of soccer mom forums lol.

I felt like the Land Cruiser marque was more hype on the LC250 and felt like I was in a premium bigger 4Runner than the all mighty Land Cruiser that we all know and love growing up
The "Land Cruiser marque" has graced vehicles of various classes for a LONG time. While here in the US we've generally only had one, there are currently 3 varieties of LC globally...the rugged, utilitarian 70 series, the ligher-duty 250 "Prado", and the fully-spec'd 300 series.

The existence of a lighter-duty version is not new, the Prado has been a popular seller in many markets for quite a while now.

And yeah, the "new Land Cruiser" is a lot more comparable to the 4Runner than previous US offerings...but that's not necessarily a bad thing
And I did a ton of research before getting this car
Then you should have known that this LC wasn't a successor to the discontinued 200 series, but rather a successor to the 150 ("Prado"), and in line with the Lexus GX series that have been available in the US for a few generations. The Lexus LX would be the equivalent to the LC 300.

It also should have been fairly easy to determine if the LC 250 would fit your family and lifestyle prior to purchasing.
Look at 200 series used values currently, most good ones beat LC250 new pricing. And that says a lot about the platform. The LC250 is for the people, the 200 was for old-money folk when it was new and still is with relatively low mileage Heritage editions.
The 200 series LC also started at around $85k (or more for higher trim levels) back when they were new...the 300 series, if available in the US, would almost definitely be over $100k today. Of course a lower-mileage well-maintained used 200 series will fetch more than a new 250.

I don't think anyone argues that the previous 200 series was a higher class of vehicle...Toyota just couldn't/can't sell a Toyota-branded LC at that price in numbers that made sense, as most folks with that kind of money to spend probably preferred the Lexus LX version.
....
Personally, I didn't buy my LC under any delusion that it was anything more than it is... I'm not the kind of person that would have ever been in the market for a 200 or 300 series Cruiser, primarily because I could never justify the cost. For me, once the LC 250 became an option, it was going to be between that and a 4Runner, and I preferred the looks of the LC and the full-time 4WD, so I went with the LC...and I'm very happy with it.

I'm also the type of person who, if I had "weekend vehicle" kind of money, would opt for an imported 70 series over a 300 series...but that's just me.

Man I love forums.

Best of luck with the Raptor, @eurospek. I've been eying a few of your FS threads, trying to convince my wife to let me throw a few of them on her LC...

It sounds like he has both an LC and a GX but cool snarky comment.
I’m not making excuses for anyone, but his comment was probably in response to teghogh generally pushing nonsense requests for opinion just for engagement, and then responding to any advice or opinion provided as though it is dumb or not what they are askimg. I am not un-ignoring teghogh to see exactly what was said, but I think I recall seeing they had indeed traded their LC for a GX.

TLDR, I can see how people just generally dislike him/her. I like you though haha, it was nice meeting you early in my ownership journey!

Fair point @DubDub, it was nice to meet you as well! I've gotten great info on both sites for LC and GX owners, like advice on wheels, tires, roof racks, etc, which (mostly) apply to both vehicles.

Well, as you know, I am proof of some of that interoperability in practical application.

keep going. you are making my point on what a sensitive bunch SOME of the LC owners are.

@eurospek good luck with the new vehicle.

Based on what you’re looking for in a vehicle, I really think you bought the wrong vehicle in the LC and the Raptor. Did you consider the Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey? Minivans may have a stigma, but they are the ultimate utility vehicle for growing families.

We were in a similar situation 25 years ago with 3 kids and 2 dogs. My wife did not want the soccer Mom vehicle of the time, but we got a Honda Odyssey anyway. It was the absolute best vehicle for long trips. We piled 5 people and 2 dogs in with all our stuff for 2 week long vacations. Never needed a roof carrier. Most of our drives were 10 - 12 hours long, although we did some 24 hour drives. Complete comfort for all passengers.

I get that most people don’t want to be seen driving a minivan, but for a growing family they really are amazing. Most SUVs do not do the UV part of the “SUV” name well, unlike minivans that excel in the utility area.

We kept our Odyssey for 14 years and 250,000 miles when we sold it. Typical for Hondas, regular maintenance was all we ever did. Never had a breakdown.

Just because someone calls you out for being a dickhead doesn’t mean they are sensitive lol
Haha, was it me? I won’t even hit the “show ignored content” link to find out for myself, life is just healthier this way 😂

So in an unexpected turn of events, my 2025 Land Cruiser LC Trim non-Premium in Underground is gone after a short 8 months of underwhelming ownership. My Toyota journey started in 2023 when I had a Solar Octane 4Runner TRD Pro on deposit and cancelled when it was at port when the new Tacoma and Land Cruiser news were hitting the internet. Then I had a 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro on deposit along with a good friend and we both cancelled that, he ended up with a 2025 Tundra and me with the above Land Cruiser. It was suppose to have been our "family road trip car" and space was getting tight in the back even with just our Bernedoodle for now. Plus with our growing family I just did not see it any longer as my long-term car and fell out of love with it day by day, mod by mod lol. Definitely minimal room in the back with a future car seat base for the infant, the dog, and all our stuff in the back. We are based in Chicago area and travel to Scottsdale AZ, Gaitlinburg, TN, and St Pete's Beach quite frequently and this Land Cruiser just was not it for us. I felt like the Land Cruiser marque was more hype on the LC250 and felt like I was in a premium bigger 4Runner than the all mighty Land Cruiser that we all know and love growing up. And I did a ton of research before getting this car, months and months chasing a good priced allocation, options, colors, etc.

Last week I traded a fellow LC250 owner his First Edition rack for my stock rails in hopes of jump starting my planned "build" for this car. And after the roof rack and added wind noise I pondered what I was really doing with this car and my money, I just did not see myself being fully happy after installing everything that I have sitting in the garage for it (Falken 35s, SCS f5 wheels, ARB OME MT-64 coilovers plus UCAs, SLEE sliders, OEM Skid Package, and a few other JDM only goodies like the FE mudflaps, rain guards, and other bits and pieces).

So Tuesday morning going to work I decided I will finally stop being cheap and stop settling and go after my dream truck, Ford F150 Raptor on 37s with the Recaro interior. Few local online listings that I found for 2023 and 2024 models were priced OK with relatively low miles but nothing really with the options I wanted. Another quick search of brand new Raptors led me to a dealer in central Illinois, population of 2700, with quite a bit of inventory with anything Raptor related. Fast forward a few phone calls, negotiations, and pictures back and forth, a deal was made with Heller Ford in El Paso, IL. 2 hours away from us, and literally 20 minutes away from the gentleman that I traded the roof rack with. Funny how life works sometimes.

TLDR; I purchased my Land Cruiser above for $61,400 in January 2025. Drove it for 10,000 miles (hit that on the way to Ford dealer) and absolutely did nothing to it besides one oil change myself at 2500 miles and never even bothered to properly wash it and polish the paint like I do with all my cars (Underground color was another regret of mine with this vehicle), the color was always dirty and dusty, and seeing it on Corollas and Camrys made the regret be real even more.

I agreed to a trade-in price of $57,000 over the phone and I was expecting ballpark of $52,000 to $54,000 (with how much I got hosed on my trade in for the Land Cruiser, I drove an Audi previously) and I was happy with the $57,000.

As for the Raptor, it's brand new, delivery miles only, Oxford White with the 37 Performance Package (including beadlock wheels, 37s of course, dual valve Fox Shox, Recaro seat package, and carbon fiber interior styling pack as well). I did not realize previously that getting 37s to work on a Raptor 35 is way more than just tires. Even the frame is reinforced and changed to fit a 37 spare, different shock valve tuning (dual vs single) and other pieces. And while the 37 Performance Package is super expensive at $11,470, I've learned from my mistakes, do it once, do it right. I was also able to get almost $6,000 of MSRP for the Raptor and hearing that sealed the deal for me.

We picked it up yesterday and it's one amazing truck. In awe, simply in awe of everything. And was able to get my trade-in up to $57,500 after discussing the roof rack that I installed with the manager. Transaction was smooth and honest, we left the dealership in under an hour.

What I did not like with the LC were three things: underwhelming power delivery (and overall sound of engine and exhaust), lack of interior space daily driving it for almost a year, and the rattles (fit and finish overall). The infamous C-pillar passenger side rattle would be a pain in the butt to fix at the dealership when the noise would return next summer for me with high temperatures. And I'd imagine they would not touch it after seeing all the mods on it that I was planning on doing.

I just did not feel like I was driving a $66,000 vehicle with the Toyota Land Cruiser heritage at the end of the day. I can only imagine my regret if I splurged for a First Edition or Land Cruiser Premium package and dealer mark ups initially.

I enjoyed my stay on this forum, lovely bunch of people, great knowledge and everyone was just so friendly. Now come for my garage sale of parts in the Classifieds lol.
Wish you well with the Raptor. When people ask me about my LC I tell them how much I love it. When they ask if they should buy one, I tell them to think long and hard about how they'll use the truck. If you don't ever plan on seeing dirt with the LC, then I think you can find a better ride for your needs. One of the real highlights of my experience has been taking the LC up and down mountain roads.

My experience with the LC is certainly at odds with yours. The engine has significantly exceeded my expectations for performance on and off road. Yes, the sound is not great, but it's otherwise fantastic. The truck is quieter than I expected with zero rattles on or off road (even over washboard.)

I second your experience, with the exception that I know that I’m a 99% on road commuter driver with no pretense of being an overlander. I kept the street focused Michelin’s and slapped on nicer rims and called it a day. The ride is smooth, the engine powerful, and I think it’s a good looking suv that’ll last a long time and have great resale value. Hard to find fault with it at all.

Yea, the 250's aren't for everyone. Personally, I love my stock black 58 I've had since July 2024. I love it. It's my 4th Land Cruiser over 35 years, and by far my favorite. Not for everybody though. F150 Raptors are pretty cool too.

Trading a Toyota for a Ford (esp with that trade valuation) seems like craziness to me. In fairness though, if you wanted a Raptor, a LC was always going to be a bit far from that. Anyway, one of the nice things about freedom…we all get to do what we want. Good luck.

I truly can't believe that there are so many used Land Cruisers being sold for above MSRP. Demand must be super high. Just a few of many, many examples:

And honestly not the reaction and discussion I was hoping from this thread. Exact reason why I fell out of love being an avid forum contributor besides technical questions or troubleshooting brand new cars like this one. Lots of keyboard warriors and lots of butt-hurt egos in this thread.
Nobody is “butt hurt.” The language in your original post sounded a lot like “I don’t like my Land Cruiser and if you had any sense you wouldn’t like yours either” which earned you some headwind.

Like I said last week, if you peel that away and look closely at the reasons why you’re moving on, it makes sense. I downsized to the LC from a Tahoe precisely because my situation is the reverse of yours. Both of our kids are at college and we mainly want an all purpose vehicle to go back and forth between our places in Denver and Avon and to do the things people do for fun in those places. For us the LC is perfect, for you it’s not and when my situation was more like yours it would not have been large enough.

To my sensibilities, you went beyond that appraisal of needs and wrote a pretty large amount of opinion about why the Land Cruiser is a miss against its brief and a blight on Toyota’s brand. The market has spoken and that’s not the general view. Also, this is a Toyota forum and you were mistaken if you expected enthusiastic agreement. But it’s cool.

From what I can tell, everyone here thinks the Raptor is also a great choice, but you don’t need our approval. Enjoy yours.
