Current trade-in values and a bid farewell

BADASS Truck! I came from 19' F150, which I bought from my mom after my dad passed. the interior space was amazing. Unfortunately, that truck was built to tow, so the off road performance was a bit stiff. I miss having a truck, but sure do love my LC250!

Congrats on the new ride!

Did the OP ever say what was paid for the Raptor? Lots of price talk about the value of the LC, but nothing about the premium paid to get into the dream vehicle. Seems to me in a thread like this, it matters.

So in an unexpected turn of events, my 2025 Land Cruiser LC Trim non-Premium in Underground is gone after a short 8 months of underwhelming ownership. My Toyota journey started in 2023 when I had a Solar Octane 4Runner TRD Pro on deposit and cancelled when it was at port when the new Tacoma and Land Cruiser news were hitting the internet. Then I had a 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro on deposit along with a good friend and we both cancelled that, he ended up with a 2025 Tundra and me with the above Land Cruiser. It was suppose to have been our "family road trip car" and space was getting tight in the back even with just our Bernedoodle for now. Plus with our growing family I just did not see it any longer as my long-term car and fell out of love with it day by day, mod by mod lol. Definitely minimal room in the back with a future car seat base for the infant, the dog, and all our stuff in the back. We are based in Chicago area and travel to Scottsdale AZ, Gaitlinburg, TN, and St Pete's Beach quite frequently and this Land Cruiser just was not it for us. I felt like the Land Cruiser marque was more hype on the LC250 and felt like I was in a premium bigger 4Runner than the all mighty Land Cruiser that we all know and love growing up. And I did a ton of research before getting this car, months and months chasing a good priced allocation, options, colors, etc.

Last week I traded a fellow LC250 owner his First Edition rack for my stock rails in hopes of jump starting my planned "build" for this car. And after the roof rack and added wind noise I pondered what I was really doing with this car and my money, I just did not see myself being fully happy after installing everything that I have sitting in the garage for it (Falken 35s, SCS f5 wheels, ARB OME MT-64 coilovers plus UCAs, SLEE sliders, OEM Skid Package, and a few other JDM only goodies like the FE mudflaps, rain guards, and other bits and pieces).

So Tuesday morning going to work I decided I will finally stop being cheap and stop settling and go after my dream truck, Ford F150 Raptor on 37s with the Recaro interior. Few local online listings that I found for 2023 and 2024 models were priced OK with relatively low miles but nothing really with the options I wanted. Another quick search of brand new Raptors led me to a dealer in central Illinois, population of 2700, with quite a bit of inventory with anything Raptor related. Fast forward a few phone calls, negotiations, and pictures back and forth, a deal was made with Heller Ford in El Paso, IL. 2 hours away from us, and literally 20 minutes away from the gentleman that I traded the roof rack with. Funny how life works sometimes.

TLDR; I purchased my Land Cruiser above for $61,400 in January 2025. Drove it for 10,000 miles (hit that on the way to Ford dealer) and absolutely did nothing to it besides one oil change myself at 2500 miles and never even bothered to properly wash it and polish the paint like I do with all my cars (Underground color was another regret of mine with this vehicle), the color was always dirty and dusty, and seeing it on Corollas and Camrys made the regret be real even more.

I agreed to a trade-in price of $57,000 over the phone and I was expecting ballpark of $52,000 to $54,000 (with how much I got hosed on my trade in for the Land Cruiser, I drove an Audi previously) and I was happy with the $57,000.

As for the Raptor, it's brand new, delivery miles only, Oxford White with the 37 Performance Package (including beadlock wheels, 37s of course, dual valve Fox Shox, Recaro seat package, and carbon fiber interior styling pack as well). I did not realize previously that getting 37s to work on a Raptor 35 is way more than just tires. Even the frame is reinforced and changed to fit a 37 spare, different shock valve tuning (dual vs single) and other pieces. And while the 37 Performance Package is super expensive at $11,470, I've learned from my mistakes, do it once, do it right. I was also able to get almost $6,000 of MSRP for the Raptor and hearing that sealed the deal for me.

We picked it up yesterday and it's one amazing truck. In awe, simply in awe of everything. And was able to get my trade-in up to $57,500 after discussing the roof rack that I installed with the manager. Transaction was smooth and honest, we left the dealership in under an hour.

What I did not like with the LC were three things: underwhelming power delivery (and overall sound of engine and exhaust), lack of interior space daily driving it for almost a year, and the rattles (fit and finish overall). The infamous C-pillar passenger side rattle would be a pain in the butt to fix at the dealership when the noise would return next summer for me with high temperatures. And I'd imagine they would not touch it after seeing all the mods on it that I was planning on doing.

I just did not feel like I was driving a $66,000 vehicle with the Toyota Land Cruiser heritage at the end of the day. I can only imagine my regret if I splurged for a First Edition or Land Cruiser Premium package and dealer mark ups initially.

I enjoyed my stay on this forum, lovely bunch of people, great knowledge and everyone was just so friendly. Now come for my garage sale of parts in the Classifieds lol.
Sorry to see you go and glad you’re happy with the Ford. I guess it raises the point you really have to do your homework with research before parting with your cash and finding it isn’t big enough for what you want it to do. Happy travels in your new rig.

I hope the original poster has great luck with his truck. I traded in my 2023 F150 Tremor for my Land Cruiser and couldn’t be happier. It would have been a great truck if mechanically sound, but within the first few hundred miles it began making horrific vibrations in all types of scenarios. I vowed to never buy anything made in America ever again.

My paternal grandparents each worked for Chrysler for 30+ years, and my maternal grandparents GM for 25+. I can walk onto any CDJR, Chevy, Buick, GMC, Cadillac… and grab most anything off of the lot for invoice -$500 year round. I did this for years, every 6 months to a year, and put $1-5k in my pocket on trade every time from the late 90’s until around 2013. I had a couple of used Hondas and Toyotas as toys, but I was one of those β€œI only buy new American made” guys for a decade and a half.

I bought my first new Yota back in 2015, a Tacoma TRD Pro. It took me only 5 minutes to see it, and about 6 months to confirm it. American motor companies are all about the initial quality and superficial advances in tech and comfort. They get away with so much crap just by hiding behind their β€œMade in America” shield. I’ve had $100k+ GMC HD trucks fall apart in the warranty window. Never again. I’ll buy an old TJ (have a 2004 now), and I’ll always love GM prior to 1972, but I’ll never spend my own money on a new GM or CDJR unless it is absolutely necessary.

? Trunk, it's a truck. Yes you can use a tonneau cover but......won't go into detail about the guy that was being erratic in one last winter so I passed him...got next to him, he guns it.. he still lost.....seems to be one of those ego machines....

Laughable calling the Raptor a better family vehicle
No it unequivocally is not laughable. Different use cases may favor one over the other based on needs. In my case the only scenario where I choose the LC is for tight trails with some technical crawling requiring better break over capability. There is no scenario on pavement where the LC is superior. In fact at 80 mph on the highway the MPG is identical for my driving habits, but the Raptor is infinitely more comfortable, quiet, and composed. And your story about out accelerating a Raptor at speed is the only laughable part of your story. I love the LC, but you have obviously never owned both.

It wasn't my LC.......but it was a big luxury SUV.....wasn't even the biggest motor. Also pretty sure it was just a regular 450hp Raptor with a snarly exhaust. they do weigh 5700-5950 lbs.......so being close to 1000 lbs lighter is ~90+ lbs advantage...

Good Luck EURO, why didn’t you go for the Ford from the beginning if it was your dream - always aim high I say and go with your gut and see where you land, Happy Travels in your new rig.

Came from a very, very nice Tundra lifted with 37s that we road tripped all the time. It got 12MPG no matter what, looked good and was an excellent vehicle. We just didn’t want something that big anymore. So I sold it. New in 2008 it was 31K. I put almost 160,000 miles on it and kept it in immaculate condition. It was extremely well maintained. A nice BDS 7 inch lift and I just rebuilt the FOX coil overs on it a couple of years ago.

We seriously miss that truck and it sold to the first person that looked at it for 18.5K he didn’t even want to drive it…..it was a damn nice truck!! Carried grandkids a pup (that passed away a couple of years ago) and all our gear on many, many trips all over the western US.

I get it when you say you need room for β€œstuff”. We had a 5th gen 4 Runner which we really liked and that could not haul all the goods and we ended up using the Tundra again for trips. It was just that much more comfortable and spacious.

Now we have our LC 250 Land Cruiser which we purchased instead of a new 4 Runner due to interior design and climate controls and systems being superior than the 4 Runner and not to mention the looks….it just looks so damn cool!! We have been on the road for about 2 weeks now visiting grand kids and family all over the western US. Its interior capacity could be bigger (Sequoia) like but we really do love the Land Cruiser, its capabilities, looks, fit, finish, performance and design he MPG….with 285/70/17 KO3s in cold weather we are getting 18 MPG on our trip.

Comes down to as life changes so do you. We loved having a big, lifted awesome truck that was capable of some off road fun and tons of storage for all the stuff we wanted to bring plus more. We are now ready for something more practical for us as well as smaller.
I can’t say I would trust Ford reliability as whole but I do believe if you take care of a vehicle they will take care of you so there’s that.
As long as you have what makes you comfortable for trips with the family that’s all that matters. But damn it man I do miss our Tundra!! Just was not practical to keep it. We also found that we need to figure out our package luggage situation a little better for next time…..we were spoiled with so much room before. IMG_2420.webp

For reference. LC LC non premium bought fall 2024 for 60500ish, 19000 miles, 55k trade in with some minor mods and a chipped (but injected) windshield.

I'm not complaining. I had a lot of fun in that time for 5k and not having to return to OEM was a bonus.

Loved my LC, was ready for something else. Have fun y'all!

From what the original poster stated, The OP next vehicle is a minivan, sorry it happens to all of us.

Not bad, considering trying to sell mine and go back to a gx460 or lc200. Afraid I don't get what I want for it but that's really close to what I was hoping for.

Get ready for rattle city from your raptor. I own both a raptor and a Land Cruiser. If you thought the Land Cruiser was a rattle trap you’ll really have fun with your raptor. Oh and plan on getting a new transmission down the road. The 10 speed transmission is a pos. Other than that you’ll really like it.
