Rattle in driver's B pillar (2024 LC)

I have a new suspect for this noise. At least in my case, the noise seems to be coming from the fuel door. Fuel door is rather flimsy and is made out of thin sheet metal. It has two small anti-vibration rubber stoppers inside, but at least in my case, they are short and do not actually make contact with the body, and hance the fuel door rattles very easily. I can easily shake the fuel door with my hand when it is close.

I realized all this because when I close the rear left passenger door, I was hearing a metallic rattle noise that sounded very similar to what I though I was hearing from the B-pillar. If I close the rear door while firmly holding the fuel door, it doesn't rattle and there is no metallic noise from it.

I haven't though how to fix it yet, but perhaps I can put rubber extendedness to the body side so that the anti-vibration stoppers actually make contact with the body, and hopefully keep the fuel door in place.

You might use some of those small self adhesive, felt dots/pads they sell at hobby stores, to confirm your theory and if they eliminate the rattle fab a more permanent solution.

Yeah I am thinking something similar with 1/4 in thick adessive foam tape.

Ordered these. At the meantime, tried adding small cutouts of foam tape to where rubber stoppers on fuel door meet the body, and it fixed the noise in my case.

I guess, fuel door may be the reason why most owners report hearing this noise on driver side, but almost never passenger side.

Good find, I never would have thought of a fuel door rattle transferring into the cabin area. The fuel door is very complex for what it is....... I've attached the PDFs for you to explore.

I heard this annoying rattle every time the windows were open. After driving me crazy for some time I found it was the tag on the base of the seat belt

The tag was kind of a plasticky material that would make a loud rattling sound in the wind. I cut them off and remove them from both seat belts and the rattle was gone.

Well at 8500 miles it seems I have now developed this dreaded passenger side b pillar rattle. Applying pressure to the windows and door panels has no effect. Called my local dealership where I bought the vehicle and they just asked me to wait until fall time to bring it in cause this is their busy season… extremely disappointed in that approach from them .

They wouldn’t make an appointment for that I tried to and they essentially wouldn’t schedule it saying it takes days to find rattles and they are too busy.

Downside of a smaller market is that we only have two dealerships and this is the better reviewed one.

I’ll spend a few days trying to find it myself and post back if I find anything.

Some members have posted that their driver's side seat belt mechanism was the culprit. Might be worth your time to remove the trim panel and stuff some bath towels around/over the seatbelt retractor to see if that muffles the sound. If it does, try and make a appointment with the dealer now that it's narrowed down.

As mentioned by EOD Guy, that is no doubt the culprit. Pretty easy to remove the panel to confirm. I bet you could create a cardboard shim to stop the rattle, but I haven’t been bothered to try. It’s pretty rare I hear the rattle.

Yeah, I read through a few of the threads here so I will check all those locations. its very noticeable unless I absolutely crank my radio beyond comfortable listening. the roads around me are heavily patched so it is constantly rattling.

Newbie here. I m in australia got this prado 250 for a month and suffered a month of left side b pillar rattling noise.

Went to dealer again and again, replaced the whole seat belt mechanism, clicking noise rattle still there and only stronger.

Took the car to my own mechanics, couldnt replicate the rattle driving on the warm sunny day when trim is off.

I can replicate the clicking sound and its from the belt touching the white plastics and metal casing. There is gap between white plastic and metal piece.

I put the sticky tapes to fill the gap. Worked for a couple of hrs but rattle came back next cold and wet day.

Anyone else could share if they tried anything else?

No. The rattle is coming from the seatbelt spool assembly. The plastic is cheap and has a lot of play in the gears. It will continue to make that metallic tapping sound until they design an improved replacement. Toyota Fort Walton Beach replaced the entire seatbelt spool assembly with another one (same amount of play in the gears), which did not help. This new assembly may be even worse than my original. Someone mentioned putting a thick lithium grease on the gears so it "sticks" and won't rattle as much. I'm just hesitant to put the grease on the gears if it causes it to malfunction.

I think U are right where the rattle is coming from. I tried to fill the gap with plastic tape between the white plastic and metal, didnt solve the problem. But i can replicate the same clicking noise taping the white plastic bit.

Someone else shared on tiktok, he tried to adjust the spring on the side and fixed the rattle. But it require to unscrew and get right inside of it. I didnt want to take the risk.

So my land cruiser has been at the dealership for 3 weeks now, I recieved a call from them Wednesday, they claimed to have located the sound comimg from the B pillar, see attached pic, said these three welds are the culprit. Sent my vehicle to a body shop to do the welds, service manager said their body shop folks weren't proficient enough to do the welding. He called me last night and said they were going to drive the car today and saturday to make the sound doesn't come back. I will update when I hear more. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've got a rattle coming from my passenger side forward cabin area, sounds like behind the glove box in the dash somewhere? Oddly only seams to happen when the car is cold, but is definitely not out under the hood. I'm thinking that when the engine is cold (only when I'm at a light or not moving etc.) but the engine's not running quite as smooth yet and hence the vibration gets the rattling going.
Haven't looked into it yet though.
