Welcome to the asylum.I have this same rattle on my brand new 1958. Did not notice it during test drive
I had a chain loose at my spare tire, I used zipties. Still rattling. Tomorrow I go to the dealer. This rattle has been driving me nuts since Aug. I took it to the dealership and they suggested it was the chain on the spare tire. I still can’t track it down and will take it back to the dealer.
Was it obvious that the handle was loose and the cause? Mine seem tight but can’t rule anything out.
Thanks!
That sucks!Hello. Anyone had the dealer fix the rattle? Brought mine to the dealership and told me its the door striker, they fixed it but came back after 2 weeks.
I think so too. Looks like the 1958 has a piece dangling behind the door panel so it may be just that. In this tread, the forum member @Gabel1 (thank you so much) shows it in his pics Door Panel Removalts fairly common vs how much vibration the vehicle has to endure. Its wiring inside the pillar.
It can be fixed.
Just be ready to drop it off for 2 days. I dropped off mine in the morning and i got it back next day afternoon. That sucks!
My dealer was able to reproduce it but they asked me to bring it back and leave it for a day or so which I am doing tomorrow. They are going to take the door panel off and start from there. I ll report back but if it comes back I am trading the car in. Even the tech from the dealership said that the rattle is so loud and annoying.
Yeah, that is what they said. I have a good advisor and he is having (his words) "the smartest guy" working on it. This is why he wanted me to bring it back when he has time to work on it. I will report back when I get it back.Just be ready to drop it off for 2 days. I dropped off mine in the morning and i got it back next day afternoon.
They adjusted the door striker. It was quiet for 10 miles and the rattle came back. Not as loud but it’s backJust be ready to drop it off for 2 days. I dropped off mine in the morning and i got it back next day afternoon.
It's worth trying. I'll trim them off regardless to see if it helps. They adjusted the door striker. It was quiet for 10 miles and the rattle came back. Not as loud but it’s back
Did you apply it from the outside or inside after removing the door panel? Did you have to remove mirror beforehand or just wedged it in?Hey everyone! I finally solved that annoying rattling issue I had. Turns out, it was the mirror! I ended up putting a strip of furniture felt pad underneath where the mirror attaches to the door, and guess what? No more rattling tin can noise when driving!
This is the sound from my B pillar. It’s coming from the seatbelt harness mechanism.
Unfortunately no. The rattle remains. I added sound deadening material throughout the B pillar to lessen noise travel. I still hear a metallic ticking over washboard roads, expansion joints, and small bumps like manhole covers. Hopefully, they can identify yours. It’s a great vehicle, but it’s driving me up the wall. Dealerships don’t know what to do to fix this either. Please update us on whether or not your dealer comes up with a definitive fix. They will likely go down the usual path of adjusting the door striker and possibly tapping welds along the B pillar, but it doesn’t fix the issue.@FirstEditionLC2024 did you ever solve this issue? I have the same noise and will take mine to the service department next week, I want to give them an idea of where to start. TYIA
No. The rattle is coming from the seatbelt spool assembly. The plastic is cheap and has a lot of play in the gears. It will continue to make that metallic tapping sound until they design an improved replacement. Toyota Fort Walton Beach replaced the entire seatbelt spool assembly with another one (same amount of play in the gears), which did not help. This new assembly may be even worse than my original. Someone mentioned putting a thick lithium grease on the gears so it "sticks" and won't rattle as much. I'm just hesitant to put the grease on the gears if it causes it to malfunction.Did the temporary fix resolve the rattle ishh?
I uploaded a short clip to YouTube so you can hear the rattle and compare it to what your rattle sounds like. Mine sounded like metal on metal or glass on metal tapping. I hope this helps. The more dealers are aware, the sooner they will create a TSB.
And one while driving over a bumpy washboard road.
Well that's unfortunate to hear. When I took it in and played a recording of the tapping sound the advisor immediately said, we have had two other vehicles in here with that, it's the welds on the door, we've had a Tundra and a Camry for the same issue and made an appointment for this Wednesday to repair. So i will be taking it in and see what they do. I think I'll mention the seatbelt spool assembly as well and see what they tell me. I will post and update when I get the vehicle back. I defiantly understand the "driving me up a wall" because I'm ready to trade this vehicle if they can't get it fixed.Unfortunately no. The rattle remains.
