J250 Wind Noise, Upgrading to the GX 550's acoustic front door glass (yes, you can!)

Thanks for the tag on the original post. I’m late to the party while off work on baby leave.

This is a great thread and answers so many questions!

I’ll 100% be doing this after I sound deaden the rear doors and see what the dB meter picks up before & after.

Yeah I agree it’s easy DIY, I opted to have Lexus do it just to save time - have to go there to pick up the glass anyway, so will just have them install while I work
How much did they charge?

i ordered my Lexus glass Friday and some dynamat/dynaliner for the door skins since i'll be in there. truly hope to hear the difference. i notice right at ~45MPH, the side mirror noise let's it's presence be known.

I hope to not get your hopes too high with this - but I think wind noise from mirrors is almost gone post acoustic glass. You still get the noise from up top (I have OEM roof rack)

glad to hear this! i am "this close" to removing the rack. it's all looks and serves no function for me yet. had the LC for almost 1.5y and never used the rack, so....

I ordered the windows today and am going very mad at you if it doesn't transfer my vehicle into Bentley levels quiet. :p

If anyone is thinking about ordering Treasure Coast Lexus in FL seemed to have the best prices. About $600 for both windows plus $100 for shipping. I called my local Lexus dealer to see if they would price match and the guy got mad at me for even inquiring. "If another dealer wants to sell parts below cost that's their business. We don't do that here." He wouldn't let it drop either and kept lecturing me on it. I was thinking a simple no would work.

I wonder if the $600 price was for acoustic glass, or regular glass(?).

installed both front windows and clips today, super easy folks, don't pay a dealer to install these. if you have basic tools, you got this. took me 20minutes per side start to finish. test drive later.

note, if you follow @tacosupreme____ video for sound deadening in the doors, you'll get a full tutorial on removing the door cards and vapor barrier.

When you unbolt the window is it still supported? Or do you need to hold the window up with one hand?

it is supported by the window regulator bracket from below, so once the 2 bolts are removed you just lift up on the glass, and you'll feel which way it wants to come out, you sort of turn it down on one side and it comes out towards the inside of the door.

when tackling this, i recommend you roll the window down with ~ 3" of glass sticking up above the sill, this should get the bolts easily accessible through the grommet hole

First drive to get some In-N-Out for lunch hitting 45 to 55 mph and I cannot hear any of the wind noise from the side mirrors that I was hearing before. What a big difference!

That wind noise was really starting to get on my nerves and I now feel like I'm in love with my car again 🤩

I'm taking the roof rack off this weekend to see how much quieter it gets in the cab

Happy to hear you think the same. Curious how taking the rack off helps. I surf and have a family so the rack is nice when taking boards and the gang to the beach

Taking my First Edition roof rack off made Miss Daisy much more quiet driving on the interstate. I don’t know what will happen with removing the regular roof rack..

For those who have completed this.- is there a torque setting for the two bolts for the window? Just hand tight? Did you use thread locker?

Ordered the front door glass from Lexus, planning to pick up from the dealer this weekend.

I love my LC, but the wind noise on the side mirrors on the interstate was getting to me, so I decided the upgrade was worth it since I plan to keep this truck for a while.

I have the First Edition style roof rack and notice some noise from that on the highway too. If I shut the sunshade on the sunroof it quiets it down some. Then I thought maybe putting some Dynamat on top of the sliding sunshade would deaden the noise further. Instead of replacing the entire sunroof glass with the Lexus version, just sound deadening the shade. That would be quick and easy.
