J250 Wind Noise, Upgrading to the GX 550's acoustic front door glass (yes, you can!)

I have the First Edition style roof rack and notice some noise from that on the highway too. If I shut the sunshade on the sunroof it quiets it down some.

I took Miss Daisy’s rooftop FE air brake/noise generator off and she was noticably quieter.

Ordered the front door glass from Lexus, planning to pick up from the dealer this weekend.

I love my LC, but the wind noise on the side mirrors on the interstate was getting to me, so I decided the upgrade was worth it since I plan to keep this truck for a while.

I have the First Edition style roof rack and notice some noise from that on the highway too. If I shut the sunshade on the sunroof it quiets it down some. Then I thought maybe putting some Dynamat on top of the sliding sunshade would deaden the noise further. Instead of replacing the entire sunroof glass with the Lexus version, just sound deadening the shade. That would be quick and easy.

I did my windows two weeks ago and did a 1200 mile round trip last week. The window change was very easy and made a noticeable difference. It did not necessarily significantly reduce the noise in the cabin as my iPhone measurements indicated an avg decibel reduction of .3 (71.5 to 71.2). However, it basically eliminated the wind noise from the mirrors right next to your head which is a noticeable improvement. Nowijust notice the wind noise from the roof rack

I think other people have already confirmed the levy’s has the same sunroof glass as us. I’m not sure how you dynamat the sunshade itself unless you are doing it on the inside of the cabin. You could potentially do the glass itself must I would worry about ruining something.

Not on the glass, but dynomatting on the sunshade. I was thinking of opening the sunroof glass, then closing the sunshade. And dynomatting the top of the sunshade panel with the glass slid open. So the sound would be deadened when the sunshade is closed. If that makes sense. Not sure it is possible to do that, but just an idea I had.

I think the sunshade has to be open for the glass to be open but am not 100% sure. I do know mine pushes open the sunshade when the glass is opened. Let us know if you find out otherwise.

My other concern is the dynamite potentially “leaking” through the sunshade material on a hot day.

I upgraded my Land Cruiser front side glass to the GX double pane glass over the weekend. Ordered and picked up from my Local Lexus dealer:

-Install was an easy DIY, agree it is not worth paying the dealer to do this job. The sound deadening video posted by @tacosupreme____ on youtube on how to remove front door panels was helpful and is worth a watch.
-Plastic pry tools are a must.
-Before starting, roll windows down so about 3" of glass is showing.
-The black moisture barrier doesn't need to be fully removed to get to the bolt holding the glass.

The GX glass made a noticeable difference at speed. The wind noise off the mirrors has been reduced drastically to the point it is pretty much gone. It's a worthy upgrade for sure and I'm happy with it. The side view mirror wind noise was one of my biggest complaints with the LC, so it's worth the cost IMO.

Toyota frequently has parts deals where you can order at big discounts. I would be curious if Lexus ever does the same, as if they did i would be VERY likely to do this upgrade for Judah as well

How tight is the tension on the retaining clips? It feels like there should be a screw, otherwise why have the hole in the frame already

I installed my windows and sound deadening, will test the noise before I add the windshield strips

The clips fit pretty tight. I think the hole is just there for alignment (?). When you snap them in the tension from the clip holds them in place in the weatherstripping channel.

Does anyone have the OeM part numbers for our glass? Trying to sell mine and I’d like to include the OEm number but I just can’t find them.
