29gal Main Fuel Tank Install

Sorry - you’re correct. Anyone else? I’d like to see a few successful receipts as 1st step in considering.

Following for the Aux tank installation. Sounds great for increasing fuel capacity and weight balance as well.

I ordered a week or two ago, will update when I receive and then install.

Undecided if it’ll take it to a shop or try and rent a bay to do it myself with a buddy.

Did you order 29gal replacement or Aux?

Is Ed Martin dong the 29gal fuel tank install? Thats a heck of a lot closer for me.
I'm 100% positive they would do the install, I purchased the GX550 tank from Ed Martins and worked with Eric (GM) for the logistics, drove from Alabama to do the swap......... but the GX tank wasn't a direct swap, so "no joy" . Everyone at his shop was top notch. You will have to pay their flat labor rate for the work.

(edit) You can Google Ed Martin's Toyota for the phone number and ask for Eric.

DD thanks for leading the way. Excellent write up. I did a conversion on a 2025 Tundra from the 22.5G tank to the 38.5G that was challenging & that was using Toyota OE parts. You sir rock!
Interesting that the tank is metal. Does make me pause. Certainly not uncommon in domestic truck tank upgrades to see metal (especially Super Duty diesel adds), but in general the entire automotive industry has gone to poly tanks for OE install in the US. I expect not just because of cost, but easier to shape/manufacture & poly might be better for hard collisions where you might get better tank deformation over metal. In racing vehicles and aviation we often see bladders in metal tanks to help in tank ruptures. I really want the range improvements, but I’m going to wait on a poly tank.

Welcome to the asylum.

Does the front skid plate go back on fine after you've swapped the tank? Think it was said that the new tank hangs 1/2" lower?

Man I would hope so. If it hangs lower than the already-low skid plate then that’s pretty garbage.

My thoughts: OEM 17gal plus the 12 gal aux = 29 gal.
Weight balance is better with the aux being on the dvr's side vs 29gal main, all the weight is pass side.
I still have my GX tank that I plan on trying to install which is approx 5 more gals + aux = 34 gal.
I’m very interested to see how the 12 gal added tank goes for you. I think I would lean more towards that one over the main tank replacement.

They have an add on for the 5th gen 4Runner version that looks cool also that doesn't appear to have any additional electronics like pumps.

Are these legal in CA?
The LRA wasn’t.
They are not exactly US legal unless DOT certified, and also not California legal unless they have a CARB EO approval number. Since California bans the sale of non-CARB legal parts, Long Range America has to comply.

You just need to find a good smog guy. There's a fellow in Torrance that may or may not speak English, but he gets your smog done really fast and doesn't seem to interested in doing anything but the absolute bare minimum. He sure as hell isn't going to go crawling around under your vehicle to 'check things out.' I have to assume these people exist in most CA towns. Having the emissions in check so the computer says you're good would seemingly be the only potential stumbling block and it seems like that's a non issue. Good luck.

It’s only a $10,000 fine if you get caught with non-EO parts installed and probably even more for the shop that looks the other way. Everyone wins with CARB in the People’s Republic!

My god. Had no idea. This state is really something. 10 Gs and no registration if you want to go 450 on a tank. 2.3 more years until my last kid graduates and I can buy a place somewhere else at a minimum if I can’t convince my wife to move.
