Photo Thread: Land Cruiser Off Road!

I don't know where to start . . . I spent like 8h yesterday in the woods, mostly driving, but got stuck badly-ish twice; while recovering, I messed up some body trim.

The first time was a mud pit. The road dropped down steeply—the inclinometer got maxed out, so I don't have an exact number, but I bet it was like 40 degrees—and turned into muuuud (the first time I’ve encountered clay-mud in the Cascades). Rain and melting snow were draining into this pit, so the clay was super soggy. I was sliding on the hill left and right—mostly right, in the direction of the cliff (this was part of a shelf road, by the way).

The second time, I got high-centered on snow-ice. It was all fun and chill until I got to a wide-open space and got off the compacted snow (there were no any tracks to follow). Each recovery took 30m+ and all the skill I had (which isn't much). The worst thing: I fell short of my final destination by just one mile

Wow, awesome adventure!
The snow is my favorite but that mud is my nightmare.
You got out of all that with just the recovery boards?

Wow. That mud combined with that incline looks super messy and difficult. Same question - only recovery boards were used? No tow? If so that seems pretty impressive.
And...was it fun? Looks like a good time.

Is this the slide on Abbott Road (FR 4610)?

Yep! Recovery boards (ARB tred pro, my 3rd set. First one was claimed by Pacific Ocean when I was helping to rescue minivan from high tide, second set got annihilated by LC during recovery from snow last year (there was gravel underneath the snow and a weird angle), and now I’m on the 3rd set ARB provided for free for the second one because they have lifetime warranty or something like this), elbow grease, sweat and tiiiime 🫠

Dude the mud in that spot will suck you in! See above, exact same spot:
Photo Thread: Land Cruiser Off Road!

I love that area so much, was just there today (a bit north, hiking Old Baldy Trail).
Lol, exactly the same spot! I knew I saw it already somewhere! I’ve tried to keep lefter on the way up (smaller slope) and just went sideways right into this ditch on the right 😬loosing traction on 30+ degrees heel on a shelf road is sketchy af 😅 Now it is just pool of mud, I was terrified when driving back to go up to the bigger hill because there was rain forecasted for the afternoon and there was no way I would make it up in the rain. Luckily for my stupid butt the rain has started right after I crossed that darn place 🤡

Yeah and pics nor vid do it justice - nor do they show that if you go too far over into that mud you’re going down a cliff side where the rockslide that made that obstacle went!

I’m old, and my teticles just don’t produce enough testosterone any more to do that with Miss Daisy..

Oh man, that red mud is a nightmare. It's like peanut butter that fills and sticks in every void but somehow maintains as much traction as black ice. And once it drys, it's hard as pottery. Glad you guys made it out. I love this thread.

Should we have a separate photo-thread for "fixing trail damage" 🤔 😬 ?

I finally got some time to fix some of the damage from the recent outing. The fix itself was pretty easy but naturally I managed to break couple clips and ended up with one extra clip 😅 While fixing I've discovered a bit more damage (cracked mud flap, but I don't care to replace it) and slightly bent AC lines (those don't look too too bad, and AC is still working, so I'll try to not to notice it for now. . . we'll see how it'll play out in 100F+ this summer . . .)). Couple pics to entertain y'all:

Before (I had the borked liner tucked inside the wheel arch):

borked fender flare clip (I don't care to replace it now, since there are 10 other clips holding it, maybe I'll go with wider aftermarket ones once I become millionaire and install lift with 35" (37"?) tires:

The Damage (doesn't look too bad on pictures, but it can barely hold its shape and definitely doesn't seal well anymore)

After

There was more than lb worth of dirt

Taped the ripped molding for now to prevent moisture and dirt ingress (damage is minimal and this thing is like ~$400+ (~$300+ with dealer discount)). Probably I'll wait for some big-ish holiday (Independence day?) for better discounts 🤷‍♂️ and for warmer weather, my back didn't like this mechanical yoga 😅
