LC250 Intake Which perform better

It's a turbocharged vehicle. The air is cooled prior to entering the engine. Hot air vs cold air would really only be for a NA vehicle. A "cold air" intake truly doesn't exist.
Wow thanks I didn't realize it was turbo charged! :rolleyes: A cold air intake is nothing more than pulling air in from outside vice in the engine bay there are in literally every modern car made.

Always stay away from plastic intakes and/or intake systems that enclose a filter within a box. Especially a plastic box. These will often LOSE power. You want silicone and/or carbon fiber intake tubes at least. Otherwise you're just dressing up the engine bay with something that you think looks nice.
Sure glad you showed up here! Now go inform all the OEMs including Porsche and Ferrari their engineers are idiots for using plastic intake boxes with a filter inside because they can't handle real boost or HP!?

Personally I choose the K&N because it eliminates the intake resonator allowing for a more noticeable spool form the turbo. To note K&N does provide the appropriate hardware including a machined plate to replace the plastic mounting location on the turbo. People have reported issues with there systems but with 12k miles so far mine has been great. The sxth element intake is quieter but it also keeps the factory intake resonator. If for whatever reason you don’t like hearing the turbo I wouldn’t recommend either product.
 
You're not getting any meaningful 'performance boost' under 5,000-RPM, the point where there could be a theoretical airflow restriction from the stock air box (highly doubtful). What were the OEM flow restrictions that these manufacturers claimed the T24A has to begin with?

All I see is money 💰 being wasted on products that are completely unnecessary for improving performance, will often VOID warranty work (regardless of being 50-state legal) the dealers will blame the CAI (which on modern vehicles, tend to create far more problems than they solve), can sometimes lead to hydro lock in what should be easy crossings, and most importantly, likely allow far more fine particles of sand and debris into the intact tract (99.99% of the time) to 'improve' airflow.

All of this is avoided by just using the OEM air box with a Wix or similar OE quality filter.

So does it look cool, yes, absolutely. Probably sounds cool too. I'm all for it if that's the reason for buying, but to believe marketing hype about a 'performance boost' is very naive to say the least. That's all.

Dropped in a K&N filter today. Not as thick as OEM but I've always ran them in all my cars so figured it can't hurt.

I also picked up a K&N filter because mice ate my OEM (just moved out to the country, I feel so welcome) and I couldn't get another OEM filter quickly. There is a good bit more turbo noise.
 
Interesting read. CAI reduces a bit of intake restriction, but that’s not biggest issue on turbo motors. Larger gains come from the inlet pipe smoothing & mandrel bends over stock restrictive OE tubes.

HPS is a specialist in turbo tubing, & their CAI looks interesting. Metal heat shield/airbox @ $399

Disappointed TRD doesn’t have a LC 2.4L CAI kit that a dealer can install so it’s included under Toyota powertrain warranty. Have dual TRD CAI’s on ‘25 Tundra & inlet tubes are larger & have smoother bends.

I just put a bmc drop in air filter.

Turbo noise is a little better, can't feel any real difference but didn't expect to.

I've always gone with high quality intake filters on all my cars for the filter quality not at HP gains.

Real tuners know that adding significantly more air won't do anything but hurt the engine performance without proper ECU (air/fuel + ignition) tuning.
 
I haven’t seen anything yet about air intake temps, has anyone logged before and after?
 
Think I read all the replies and apologies if I missed it but has anyone seen commentary on S&B air intake? I’ve used them on my 4runner and a few prior vehicles and never had any concerns. Was about to purchase one but paused and came to see what folks here had to say….
 
S&B is solid for sure - Been running S&B on my 7.3L Powerstroke for 20 years. Have Toyota’s TRD dual CAI on our 3G Tundra, but it requires a tune. I’d prefer to stay w/ Toyota - maybe modify the Tacoma Trailhunter CAI. For aftermarket CAI I think I prefer the HPS in design, but not going to install any aftermarket while our LC is under warranty. Challenge w/ Toyota is it’s very hard to get a tune, and changing CAI the idea is more air volume without changing the factory design air velocity. Turbos inherently want more air. You can increase volume with filter restriction reduction & bigger inlet pipes, but change the velocity out of whack & the MAP sensor will throw CEL, & potentially go into fail safe. Lots of 3G Tundra stories on aftermarket CAI not working out well. In the end you can read forum comments that some people install them for sound & feel versus increasing performance. Not near the problem on Ford & Chevys as their ECU can take a tune & fully use the increase air flow.
