Land Cruiser Tire Upgrades?

Recently upgraded to Continental TerrainContacts A/T. I looked at tires for a week straight and finally made a move for these. Loved how they turned out. Will get better pictures once I hit the car wash.

I decided to stick with the 265/70r18 Toyo AT3 (same that is on the Trailhunter Taco and the GX) as the tire shop wasn’t sure about 275s clearing at full turn (slightly taller and wider than 265s). I imagine they’ll fit but as I don’t have the truck to measure, I opted to order the factory size.

GX Overtrail looks pretty good with these tires so I got them in a 10ply rather than of a 4ply for increased load capacity and sidewall protection. I think there was a 5lb difference between the plys (43lbs v 48lbs). KO2s were a little over 50lbs for the 10ply.

I’ll run these for the first set and maybe plus up to a 275 or 285 next go round when there is more info on fitment.
275 Toyo’s work just fine. No issues at all. Search the forum and there are tons of threads on tires here

Big day today as my Underground LCLC arrived at the dealer. I wanted to run my first upgrade by the asylum before pulling the trigger.

I am putting Toyo AT3 34x10.5 on it. My initial plan was to get RRW RR7-S wheels in 17x8.5 | 6x139.7 | +25 | 5.73". I know I would probably have slight poke with this setup but just barely.

They don’t have the wheels I want in stock and not sure when they will be in. They do have 17x8.5 | 6x139.7 | +0 | 4.75" in stock. I calculated that this would give me approximately 1.4” additional poke compared to some of the LCs I’ve seen on here with the same size Toyos and 17x8.5 +35 wheels. Those setups just barely stay in the fender and look and function great based on what I’ve read.

If I go the +0 route I would get the NYTOP fender flares which would give about .1” tuck for the tires. I would also need extra large mud flaps.

I plan on removing the front air dams but hope to avoid cutting. I like slightly aggressive stances on trucks but nothing over the top (I’m replacing a stock ZR-2 with slightly upsized tires). So I think I would like the look of the +0 with flares.

So give me your opinions and best insults as to why this is a bad idea. What am I sacrificing functionally? What problems am I asking for that I might not of thought of?

Thanks!

My setup is 17x8.5 -10. it’s the SCS FA16 with Maxxis Razor AT I’m on 33s but they weight right under 65lbs. Mine has the same poke you are stating maybe a little more. I have ordered the NYTOP flares but they are still a few weeks out from being shipped. “Back order” You can have them sooner if your want the carbon but, they are significantly more then the Matte Black FRP flare I ordered. OEM flares are 1100 after the discount I used the NYTOP came to 1430. When they come in should be almost flush with the edge of my setup. Mines a 1958 but this will give you a rough idea for comparison.

It'd be great to see you post some before and after pics when you get the NYTOP fender flares. The pics on the NYTOP site don't show the Matte Black FRP flares at all.

I’m excited to get them in. I’m hoping it will only be about 2 more weeks based on the production eta they gave me. I’m debating on if I want to do there trail pipe or not.

Does anyone happen to have pics of a '58 in Meteor Shower with bronze rims on it? Trying to figure out how they'd look. Thanks in advance.

Quick update: My MPG went from 22/23 highway & 19/20 city average on the stock Yokohama tires to low 17/18 highway and 14/15 on city. I been mainly driving on normal mode, tried eco and that gave me even worse results.

I switched to driving on Sport mode and have gone back up to 21/22 on highway and so far city seems to even out around 17/18.

So you got better mpg in Sport? I would have figured that would have been the worst for gas mileage…

Maybe you don’t feel the need to push the pedal down harder in sport mode. Going to try it and report back.

What? Have we all been avoiding sport mode just for help with mpg's and logic has been reversed? OK cannot wait to play with this. I did notice something similar this winter when I could have sworn driving in normal might have been giving me better fuel economy than in eco when engine was cold. But was not sure.
