Land Cruiser Tire Upgrades?

I just found some BFG/KO3s at 285/70r17 in the C1 rating and have bought them from Discount Tire, the best price I could find. I also moved over to the Machined/Clear Coated MR703s.

I am feeling like a guy with more money than sense, part of the "crowd" and all that... But I gotta say looking at all the options over the past couple of months, I kept coming back to the Methods and the KO3s. I am, by the way, no longer a man with money :)

My latest endeavor to keep me broke was to try the 2024 Tacoma TRD OffRoad stock wheel 17x7.5 +55 with 34x10.5R17 Toyo AT3s in D load. More of a pizza cutter but adds more sidewall which I think is lacking with 18" wheels. I like the stock look and the tire is behind (inside not behind  ) the mudflap so less mess on the side of my truck.

Proud owner of a MS 1958. I upgraded the OEM tires to 265/70R/18 Toyo AT 3, E rated. The handling and ride feel great.

I can confirm three positive things about the 34 10.5 17 D rated toyo OC at3

1. It rides better than the stock size SL Toyo OC AT3’s I was running on the 18 inch rims

2. I get exactly the same gas mileage as before

3. The spare fits easily and tucks up in just as far as the OEM. (Nearly the same width as the 265.

I settled for n it after much research and After trying 4 different tires I am extremely happy with them.
Wow your setup looks amazing! Mind telling me all the details? I see your tire is a 34x10.5 17 Toyo OC AT3 but what are the specs on the wheel?

Thanks!

I’m pretty happy with mine as well. Stock FE tire was 10.4 with 32.6” diameter. 34x10.5 is pretty much same width as stock but 33.5” diameter.

Hi, I posted some pics above of my rig with the new tires and rims on May 22. I have a very loud hum/vibration coming from what I believe is the front. The setup is 285/70-17 with the method 304 rims. I hope Discount Tire can fix it on Monday, if not they have a 30 day guarantee that I may need to take advantage of, I would rather not go that route. I did get their blessing putting them on so hopefully this can be fixed with a simple rebalance.

I have heard that the BFG KO3s are hard to balance, I will keep you updated. I will also, maybe, be looking for a different tire. I will reread the posts to see what people are recommending. Mine is a 1958, stock suspension, with the only mods being the Rhino Rack Recon and the tires/wheels.

Grandpa patrol reporting for duty.

Michelin Defender LTX MS2's in 265/70R18 mounted on 18" Tacoma wheels powder coated in black.
These work great in so-cal. Perfect for shuttling family to/from the mall, but can also keep up on the desert trails around the area and in light snow when we head to the mountains.

Does anyone have photos of the stock 20" wheel with upgraded tires? Especially the 33" size 275/60R20?

Also, what is the stock tire for the 20" wheels?

new member here, got a 1958 last month and recently got tires put on. Nitto Ridge Grapplers, 285/70/18, stock 18" wheels

no trimming needed. mudflaps were removed so they dont get caught on stuff

love the stock look - once lifted, will probably throw 35's on those rims

No issues with this tire size (285) on stock rims with only 7.5" width ??
