IIHS crash safety results for 2025-2026 MY LC250

You didn’t answer the question - Why did you buy a LC if as you state Toyota doesn’t make safety a priority & sacrifices safety for the sake of cost savings?

Because in its category - mid-size off-road capable SUVs - it's the least bad option:
  • it's more comfortable and on-road friendly than Bronco, Wrangler and 4Runner without giving up much of off-road capability
  • it's about as safe (or unsafe) as the three models mentioned above
  • it's more off-road capable than uni body mid-size SUVs
  • it's not insanely expensive like the G-Wagen
  • it doesn't come with the V35A engine, which has been a total disaster, like the GX
  • it's more reliable than any Land Rover
  • it's easier to find maintenance and repair service than Ineos - the nearest Ineos dealer is 125 miles away. BTW, due to its small sales volume and vehicle category, it's exempt from most European safety standards so it's unknown how well it would score in standardized crash tests.

If money was no object, my choice would be G-Wagen, but I don't believe that it's worth 3 times more than the LC. If Toyota gets its act together and finally fixes the V35A issues, the GX would be a comparable option, but I don't think Toyota will be able to solve the perennial V35A problems without major redesign. Toyota has been trying to fix the V35A for three years, initially blaming debris from manufacturing process, than had to expand the recall even after the problem was supposedly resolved, and recently delayed the announcement of final resolution from April to August 2026. It's pretty obvious that Toyota still doesn't have an economically viable solution.

There’s a lot of reply’s , I don’t really want to read all of them. but is there a 2024 vid?

Not from IIHS but if you search ANCAP on YouTube you’ll find some of their crash tests for 2024 Australian market models. These 2025/2026 videos are the earliest that they’ve done here in the states. NHTSA did their own crash tests in 2025 iirc.

Kinda sidetracking your comment but yea the v35a has been a huge letdown imho. Toyotas current remedy is to just give affected vehicles a replacement motor that has no fix and send people on their way. I think the current v35a is too high strung and its oil passages too small which leads to blockages from engine debris and then oil starvation. I also find it odd that people want reliability and longevity but then go and slap engine tunes to maximize their HP/torque numbers but don’t realize that it’s just wearing out their drivetrains faster. What can ya do… 🤷‍♂️

I don't completely understand these results. rectangle lights appear to shine farther on some metrics
Lights that shine too far also get dinged for excessive glare to oncoming traffic.

For my use I will take longer distance lighting over marginal improvements in turns.

So I might be dumb and selfish, but wouldn’t that be a problem for the other drivers and not me? It appears that the rectangle lights are actually brighter all things considered.

Correct. I paid more money so I could lord it over the filthy poors and blind them at night with my obnoxious headlights.

This was a fun one no doubt. See you on the other side...............Lighting is most important to locate the species that is the nemesis of all motor vehicles, namely the fn deer.🤬🙃

In my AO you can add elk to that equation, and if you’re on county roads errant cows. If you’re traversing Wind Cave National Park or Custer State Park add bison.

Hogs in my AOR. Vehicles hit & end up rolling up over them & they do awful mess to under carriage. Added M&R light bar behind lower grill that activates w/ high beams to help see the vermin.

Deer, elk, bison, caribou, hogs, gators....our Aussie folks will add wallabies and Kangeroos no doubt. Maine and Moose come to mind also. Looked up under the belly of a few in my old Honda Accord. Locals told me I'd just tickle their balls and really piss them off in that little Jap car...hehe

The round headlamps on 1958 & FE are sealed headlamp assy. The entire headlamp assembly must be swapped because Toyota uses sealed LED modules, not removable bulbs. If there was an option to upgrade the LEDs to better Kelvin Rating. The ones equipped are 4300K. Anything above 5K woukd be a better output. The
moment I received my FE and seen the Headlamp assy, just not possible to retrofit.

Agreed and amazing that you made it out unscathed! Cars are definitely safer today but I wish they were even safer 😅. There is so much energy in a single vehicle 40mph collision and just think what would happen if there were two vehicles going 40mph and hitting head on. Basically it becomes a single vehicle 80mph collision. I don’t think any vehicle can keep their occupants safe at that speed. Anywho, newer vehicles manage collisions much better than older ones and is the main reason I prefer them to the older generation vehicles. If and when I ever get into a collision I want the best chance my family will be able to walk away afterwards.
My $10k+
Here are links to the article and the videos of the crash tests.

Drivers side small overlap - Good

Passenger side - Good

Moderate Overlap Front - Marginal(rear occupant submarined causing the marginal score)

Side impact - Good

Here my own $10k+ test - I'm still very much alive - just pissed-off - BUT supposed to get it back from shop today/tomorrow so that's exciting:

Glad you are safe! The vehicle did its job well. Sorry that you had to experience that but comforting to know that you are safe and sound =).

Thanks for the kind words - had it 30 days 420 miles when gutter swiped - but as everyone here on the forum suggested being repaired with all OEM parts (which I was lucky enough to have written in my policy) & all parts were available at dealer so whole repair will be approx 10 days.

I hope the repair process goes smoothly and without any further complications. Glad to hear that all parts were available and that you’re scheduled to get your vehicle back soon!
