After reading BigSherm post I splurged on those silicone door thingies as well. I can't say I can hear any difference but they sure do look nice.

I also decided to hide some nasty scratches on the centre console. The painted centre piece is very easy to scratch. My guess is that the seat belt buckle was the culprit. I cut up an old phone case and glued the pieces. I can always reverse it but I like the result.

Removed the cargo box due to the very expensive, supposedly “rust proof” locks having, well, completely rusted out. Previous long-term average was 23.5mpg. I think I may have underestimated the impact of my 9” tall case.

My drive is 40 miles one-way, but the gas station is 4 miles up the road. Figured I’d post for those deciding on rooftop solutions since my 1.4mpg hit is with an extremely low solution.

Yea… Rooftop air brakes are never good for fuel economy. Even the shiny slick aerodynamic Yakima ski box that I used on my Subaru 3.6R Outback cost me 2.5 MPG. They look cool, but are a drain on the gas tank.

Roof Racks have many functions. The look is cool. But I didn't buy my FJ for fuel economy. The problem I have is the noise it makes. That being said I still love it.

Just out of curiosity, how much pressure are putting in your AT3s. I just put new Nitto Terra Grappler's on Gemi and during a long trip out west, ran the tires at the spec'd 33 pounds. I was still getting 19-20 on the backroads at 55-65. But at interstate speed, the combo of the new tires and the 83L Roam box helped it drop off a cliff down to 14-16. So there's more than just the rooftop going on. I did not play around with tire pressure to see if it had an impact, but may in the fall.

37. It’s a little rougher/tougher riding, but it makes a huge difference on the efficiency.

My last fueling distance and gallons used:

Buy a touch up stick from Toyota. Buy some 000 brushes. Add a small layer or 2 till almost full. Clearcoat. Hand cmpd , polish till smooth. Fixed. May cost you $25. I am 100% serious. This is not rocket science.

First spark plug service. Easiest vehicle to change the plugs I’ve ever worked on. Didn’t even have to disconnect the coils on plugs #1-3.

A extra deep plug socket is handy. I still used a 6” extension. Cornwell truck had the plug socket kit on sale last month. So I splurged.

Coil #4 you want to disconnect so you can rotate it 180° to clear the hybrid harness to remove it.

Insulators are definitely burnt. 40660 miles for the record.

Got my spare wheel and tire mounted on the Trailswing. Spare doesn’t match my SL rated Yokohama AT4 but it’ll do. BP-51 and Icon Tubular UCA go on in two weeks
