Rear diff breather install

I had bought this kit but I am now returning it. The quality of the tube is not great…give it a few winters and this thing would snap. I’m taking my chance on the union part with fuel line like someone else mentioned.
 
Would the air void in the hose affect the sensitivity of the pressure release valve on the breather? I.E. would the rear differential fluid need to be hotter to increase the air pressure to release the valve?

I don't believe so ....... it's just a steel/alum ball sitting on top of a stem pipe. IF any pressure builds up, the intent is to that pressure to vent while at the same time, when water is splashed on to the vent the ball and cap would prevent ingestion.

About to install a rear diff breather but I have a question: If other breather valves are already in the engine bay, why does Toyota not also simply put the rear diff breater valve there to start?

IMO...... cost of the material to run from the rear diff into the engine compartment. Except for the small percentage of folks that would actually traverse deep water on a repeated basis, it's just not needed.
 
Hard to say, all it would have taken was length of hose a few frame rail clamps and axle union.

Maybe the reasoning was the front is more prone to seeing water driven up into the breather at speed if you don't have the steel skids, whereas the rear would mostly see more gentle submerging rather than forced upwards splashing?

But where they placed it (just above drivers side UCA near the front bushing) makes it slightly prone to that very scenario as there is no splash guard blocking fender well ingress to it there, Toyota should have moved it a little higher or further forward IMO to get behind the plastic shield or above the opening in the fender well.
 
Interesting and don’t disagree. But it would be so inexpensive to do from the factory, and as far as I know every 4-wheel Toyota simply leaves it on top of the differential. Kind of like cheaping out on the hood struts. I’ve dunked my rear differential many times unfortunately before I even knew about this issue, which I’m now going to fix asap.

it’s been deathly hot out recently. I tried to find away to feed the fuel line from the tail light to the rear differential (just bc it would have been the shortest route). Looks like to set it up here I would have to remove the rear bumper to get better access…which I don’t want to do. Guess the two ideal spots are the gas cap area and engine bay.

I have only seen videos of it done on the Tacoma. Prolly going to do the same with it on the engine bay, but hold off till end of summer. Just to hot to be crawling under the truck outside.

It is warm outside in the summer but doing the job at 0600/0700 in the morning solves that problem 👍

your not wrong and prolly will have to set some time to do it in the morning.
 
Saw someone on YT post about 2024 tacoma use this union part to extended the breather. Could we do the same on ours? This would be way cheaper than buying the ARB kit...I like the idea of having a better fuel line than a plastic tube that is in the kit. One thing I cant seem to find in the manual is how much torque does the breather need? I assume regardless if its a breather/union part it will need to be at least hand tight with a quarter turn?
Can confirm this union part will fit our rear diff. Used a fuel line as well so it should hold up better in the long run.
 
Does anyone know what the exact thread size of the rear diff breather hole? Is it 1/8 in BSPT?
 
I’m in the middle of doing this as we speak and For the life of me, I cannot figure out where the transfer case or the transmission breather is. Does anybody know where it’s located?

I did I made a new thread. Honestly not worth it headache. Just do the rear diff. The others are high enough.
