The LC250 Engine Oil Filter's stark difference is the country, i.e., Japan or Thailand, and the built quality and filter paper. Japanese Filter The fibrous quality is better, which avoids sludge buildup and the bypass pressure and relief valve with a spring mechanism. Overall construction quality on the Japanese is better, I would say. The weight is a bit slightly heavy on the Japanese filter. The images does prove that.

Can one even get, here in the U.S., the filter made in Japan?
Most of the filters I get from the Dealership are made in Thailand, I buy by the case, this is true for the LC and my Tacos. The issue are the counterfeit filters. From what I've read, the color and print is slightly off. The Car Guy Nut on uTube has a very good video on counterfeit filters. IMO, if they come from the Toyota parts counter, you're good as the Toyota quality standards, regardless of which country made it, are there. If you don't want to use the dealership then you take your chances.
When you buy by the case, is the case a specific part number or are you selecting a certain amount which constitutes a case?
I ask because I have called both local dealers and both claim Toyota doesn't allow it's dealers to see filters by the case to individuals, only to mechanics with wholesale accounts.
It's each, with 10 equaling a case. I ask for 10 and they normally bring it out in an unopened cardboard box
Both are priced differently. The Japanese filter cost $17 and the Thailand $5. I have already stocked the Japanese one in my home for another 05pcs. The part numbers are certainly different. The truck which had factory part installed is #90915-10009. I am replacing the same filter. The other one is Thailand also for LC250-90915-YZZN2
I think you may have to specific mentioning that you need the Jap Part No 90915-10009. I asked the Toyota SVC, Normally by default is Thailand and most customer choose lowered cost of spares.
Sometimes if you google the filter #, you can find them "online" for 1-2 dollars per filter cheaper. If the seller isn't a Toyota dealership parts source, I scroll right by............ too many counterfeits out there. "Orsman Toyota has had my repeat business for oil and oil filters for years. Recently my local Dealer starting matching their price (on the down low deal) so I now buy locally. Had to get to know the parts manager well before he started doing that, parts are no discount tho'
I have had good luck at my local dealer with filters in general, they charge $4.00 a filter which isn't bad at least in my neck of the woods.
I just saw case in your comment and thought Costco wholesale pricing vs. paying per filter.
Toyota branded oil, my dealer charges too much for and doesn't even use Toyota branded oil when they service cars, a tech said, the dealership uses one step above sludge.
My nephew lives near a far better dealer and he buys me Toyota branded oil when he comes to see his Father, my brother.
I stop by, grab the oil and pay my nephew back.
Nice! Orsman is my oil goto, delivered to my door cheaper than my dealer, not much but still cheaper.
what does the 5k service include? just oil change, tire rotation and a "multipoint inspection?" is it even worth the time to do this if we do our own oil and rotation?
Not worth your time for sure, but if you want to keep your warranty, kind of "you make time" kind of thing. It may never come to light, but should you every have to use your warranty, I could see where Toyota might give you trouble and claim if you had done the check/service we would have caught it, which is total BS, on my last service, they didn't rotate my tires (I marked them) now the fluids were topped off but I have my doubts if anything else was actually done.

Dealers have a very low margin on Car Sales, But 100% inflated price on Spares and Service. So if they dont do the job, go back. I did mine for Tire Rotation. And ensured they did that. I had marked my tire inner rim with Whitener. This was same on receipt. Went back. Got it done. Make a scene. They will get it done.
Not worth the possible repercussion for a mech who thought I dimed them out and might remember the next time or the service rep who might mark my VIN as "one of those" again repercussions.......... Been there, done that. One more service and I'll be doing oil and rotations at home. If it were something substantial or an actual repair........ Game on!
You got the Tire rotation done at Alfuttaim ? I went for 10k Ther service guy said we dont recommend !!!! . Instead 20k is recommended
Yes, I did it at 5k next planned 10k If you have service contract. You can insist to do it as they did it for me. AF are skipping a lot if norms as cost cutting measures. Dealers are stealers
I did my first oil change at 1000 miles as well I just built a shop so I got to try out the lift for the oil change. I took an oil sample and sent it to the lab but haven’t got the results back yet. The filter is tiny. The filter I bought on Amazon was the wrong size so I had to run out and get a wix locally to get the job done. I put the amsoil hybrid oil in. We shall see how that works.
