Keyless entry issue after sound deadening the door

Ran outside to check my system, and it's all good. I used Soundshield deadening throughout the car (doors, floorpan, liftgate), and have no issues with key fob or door locking (unlock and locK). The reason for adding my two cents is that Soundshield has an aluminum core, and I basically encased the doors with it. You'd think there would be interference with that, but it's all good.

My guess is that you have a sensor blocked or not reconnected somewhere. Good luck.

Noticed this again today, twice it’s happened. Locks with the touch, mirrors don’t fold in and the keyless entry stopped working. Very strange. Did we conclude that it’s the sound deadening causing it?

Installed this in all 4 doors yesterday and it made a huge difference in the quality of the feel and sound of the doors when you close them. Took about 2 1/2 hours to do all 4 doors. Very easy to work with. No issues on keyless entry afterwards.

Hey, everyone

I added dynamat xtreme to my driver door. I used it in a number of areas, including sections of the inside of the outer panel, the inner facing panel, and the inside of the door card. I would call my application targeted, so it was far from complete coverage. It was effective and improved the sound quality from the speaker, while removing the rattling of the door that I was experiencing.

An interesting side effect is that it apparently is shielding a sensor or antenna such that grabbing the door handle no longer unlocks the doors. Touching the door handle, however, does lock the doors. After which, I get a message the driver door is not locked, despite it definitely being locked. So, I assume I created a faraday cage with the metal liner of the dynamat blocking the signal to/from a sensor or antenna. To make sure I remove the appropriate piece(s), can anyone tell me where the sensors/antennas are located in the door and/or vehicle that I may have impacted? TIA

Not sure where you’re at now with this, but my 1958 is so intermittent that it’s almost not working. And the mirrors have stopped folding automatically on most occasions. Also, I get a notification in the Toyota app almost every time now saying that the driver side door is unlocked, but it is clearly locked when I check it.

That sounds like you have a connection issue somewhere. It is not related to the sound deadening (which doesn't impact the wireless at all.) Perhaps you disconnected some wire harnesses when you were installing the sound deadening and something is a little loose?

Well, I noticed occasionally if I locked the door using the interior button or the mechanical latch by the interior handle, the door would unlock properly when touching the exterior handle. I decided to toggle it between lock and unlock a bunch of times from the interior and now all seems to be working. So, now I’m assuming disconnecting the power to the door mechanism had something out of sync or something wasn’t making appropriate contact within the mechanism until toggling back and forth. …or I’m just losing my mind.

Okay need to say this worked for my non-working fobs, crazy to think Toyota dealers and engineers have spent countless hours trying to find a solution for my fobs issues. Thank you - Thank you Treadmark for fixing my fobs!!

My door was deadened by professionals, but they didn't check keyless after. Driver door keyless in not working, passenger door works perfectly. If I lock by the key.. door locks, but the app says unlocked driver door.

Read post #10 in this thread. Try toggling between lock and unlock using the interior buttons on the driver door.

Did this really solve your issue? I'm mid front door of my sound deadening project and my door handle will not unlock via touch. It will lock if I touch it on the left side of the handle, but nothing happens when I just grab the handle to unlock the door. All key fob functions work normally. One other issue is that the mirrors are not folding as they should when locked. I checked that this is turned on and they still only flash and not fold.

Regarding the folding mirrors, make sure it’s enabled with the button marked “Auto” on the driver armrest.

If you continue to have issues, make sure all the electrical connectors on the door panel are seated fully.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've done both of these with no change. I've had this thing apart so many times trying to figure out what's wrong. I've inspected every pin and nothing appears damaged. I'm at a loss right now.

Hmmm. It might help to disconnect the battery for a while and reconnect. I have not done that with my LC, but it has helped with other odd behaviors on previous vehicles.

X2, battery disconnect for a hard rest has fixed many errors for me.

It’s funny because it’s true: often a full power cycle (achieved by disconnecting the battery) is the trick for clearing gremlins!

Disconnecting the battery helped me get the rear lift gate to close and the main inside door lock switch operating again since those stopped working along the way. I also re-upped my Carista subscription since there were a bunch of error codes being thrown. I knew I should have subscribed for a full year and not tried to save a few bucks and get all my adjustments made in the first month. Lesson learned there, but good for another year.

I finally gave up trying to fix this after way too many hours today. As it stands now, my key fob works normally and I can lock the door via touching the handle. However, I can't unlock the door via the handle and my mirrors won't auto close even when that is activated.

I'm tempted to just bring to the dealer but not sure it will be worth the expense.
