Complete Sound Deadening Project

The rear wheel wells need to have material applied from the inside of the cabin. I’ve had material to do it since I started the project, but I have been severely lagging on completing the project.

Doing sound deading to this degree is mentally exhausting for me. We had a baby which set me back a bit, and when I was finally ready it was hot as blazes outside lol.

BUT! I have dedicated some time the next two months to see this project all the way through and upload it to YouTube.

Stay tuned!

agreed. i did the front doors, the front wheel wells, the hood, the rear hatch, the front window swap. if it was straightforward i'd do more, but i cant imagine that it's going to move the needle significantly past that. maybe i'd do the rear doors just so it has a nicer clunk when i close it, but that's really it.

Now that I got my gender liner (damn autocorrect) taken care of I moved on to the rear quarter panels. I stripped down the rear trim of the car removing the floor, quarter panels, b and C pillars. There is a lot of components in the quarter panel areas (ac on passenger side and battery/computers on drivers side) so it was tough to fully get access. Removing the battery on driver side and the duct work on passenger gave you a bit of room. I added CLD for deadening as well as fiber mat for absorption to everywhere I could including up into the hollow sections behind the taillights. Pretty happy with how it turned out with a noticeable decrease in wheel noise from the rear of the car. The phone decibel meter only registered a .1 drop but it was raining out with a good amount of surrounding traffic. The lack of rear tire noise was a noticeable improvement.

Next steps are the wheel wells and possibly the hood.

Edit - The rear of the LC trim pieces were noticeably missing a lot of anti-vibration rings. I probably added 30 or so.

If attempting I would pre buy a bunch of the yellow hooks as they break fairly easily when removing trim.

There is a lot of room to treat the floor but I ran into a potential concern with the hybrid battery cable. I decided not to touch anything around the battery to limit the dealership trying to tell me the treatment was responsible if anything does happen before warranty runs out. Here is a thread abthe cable concern -
That looks like it would be substantially quiet, just don’t cross a international border, the dense meters would go insane and they might think you are bringing in drugs 😂
Is the silver insulation material made for HVAC insulation?
I’ve used that before in other vehicles, and works very well much cheaper too.

Congrats on the new addition to your family! That definitely takes precedence.

Ok - I did a good sound damping of the rear wheel wells then as o did everything from the inside. You don’t have good access to the drivers side rear wheel wells due to the gas tank filler tube.
