Complete Sound Deadening Project

Do you feel it made a significant difference in sound? Did it help with the hood rippling driving down the highway?

No different observations in terms of hood. Road noise I can't tell with only 2-3 dB less.

Last night did just passenger side fender and now seeing 75db average, down from just over 80 baseline, so it is making a difference. Note that OP used 1/2" in a lot places where I am only using 1/8" dynaliner, so he'll get better results

Planning to do driver's side fender tonight and have an update soon.

Key takeaway: it works.

Hopping back into this project today and started with the passenger door. Will do both passenger doors off camera to get my methods down. Then I’ll film the driver side doors and rear loft hatch.

Started off by applying pieces of butyl rope into the gaps between the outer door skin and inner braces. Then I laid down some big sheets of Dynamat. Stopped there for the night.

Glad to see it’s working for you! The 1/2” dynaliner really soaks up road noise from the wheel wells.

Just finished the passenger door. Total 5.5hrs and 3 sheets of Dynamat xtreme bulk pack. Made sure to stay a decent amount away from the door handle since some people say their sound deadening messed with the key fob and keyless entry. Tested mine throughout the process all the way until the door panel was back on and everything works normal. We’ll see if the driver side is an issue or not…

I opted not to do a full sheet of dynaliner on the inner door frame because it felt like a waste of materials. The factory black plastic piece acts as the vapor barrier with a good sealing foam strip. I’ll do a full sheet of dynaliner on the rear doors since they have a traditional plastic vapor barrier.

Also did not put dynaliner over the Dynamat I applied to the door panel. The giant sheet inside the inner door skin will be doing more than enough on its own.

interestingly, today i opened the app on my normal drive to work where i first tested for a baseline, and for whatever reason, i was back at ~80... maybe windier out today, IDK... but felt let down by all the $$ and work. guess i need that 1/2" stuff

Did you end up doing the other fender?

yup, driver's side has a LOT more material in it too! weird.

looking forward to your next update, the amount of stuff you did to the front doors is insane!

@jbtaco2002 maybe it was the wind that day like you mentioned.

The passenger door closes like a bank valt lol. I’ll be filming the driver front door next week. Then doing the rear passenger door and filming the driver rear door after.

Then I will do the rear lift gate and a final sound dB test before editing and uploading the footage.

When are you opting to use the Dynaliner vs dynomat ?

Dynamat xtreme is my first layer on anything and then I cover it with dynaliner.

This yellow hash outline on the door would have required me to cut a bunch of small pieces to cover, and I didn’t feel like it was worth all the work for a small amount of gains.

I rarely do that but again it just didn’t feel like it was with the time to the extra material to cover that small section.

Edit: I forgot I also did not put any over the Dynamat on the door panel itself. Also, felt like I would be minimal gains here.

With sound deadening there are 3 layers:

1st CLD (Constrained Layer Damper) Dynamat or equivalent: Reduces vibrations

2nd CCF (Closed Cell Foam) Dynaliner or equivalent: Further reduces vibrations and acts as an insulation barrier

3rd MLV (Mass Loaded Vinyl) No Dynamt option, but the closest thing to it would be Dynapad: Blocks airborne noise

I don’t run an MLV layer due to the extreme weight and added thickness to the treated areas. Sometimes it’s harder to put plastic panels back on with so many layers.
