Cabin (wind) noise

I saw a review online where these two brothers use decibel measurements between the LC and GX, by their count - the LC was quieter inside...

The noise in the cabin (mostly wind noise i think) gets decently loud as the LC gets up to speed. Seems like it comes off of side mirrors, windshield, and then the FE roof rack too.

Any ideas out there on how to reduce - obviously taking the rack off would help OR not driving such a boxy car - but curious if there are any add on enhancements that help with this type of noise.

I know the LC only has acoustic glass for windshield and doesn’t seem like you can upgrade the door windows yourself.

Just curious. Its not really that big of a deal but I love the car, it’s my daily driver and want to keep it for a very long time, so if there’s stuff that works I’d be interested in investing in it!

Nope, I just did the front doors. There's no acoustic glass part available for the rear doors, quarter panels or tailgate glass. The GX 550 only has acoustic glass on the windshield, front doors and sunroof. The rest of the glass is tempered and identical to what's in the Prado.

Having acoustic glass on just the front part of the vehicle that's being impacted by the wind is pretty common, too.

I’m curious if this would cut down on wind noise from the driver’s side rear view mirror, which is at a less aerodynamic angle than the passenger side. I’d consider doing the upgrade just on the driver’s side.

Yep. It’s very easy to pull the door panel off, remove the moisture barrier and roll the window down to the point where the bolts at the bottom are accessible.

Thanks for this valuable update. It was previously posted by another forum member, that the GX acoustic glass would not fit the LC, which I have parroted at least once on this forum.

Same here. I recall someone saying it’s thicker and therefore wouldn’t fit. Glad that’s not true.
While you have the panels out; might as well put in some sound deadener.
