Brakes Squeal

I had enough of waiting around so I contacted Toyota Customer Service in early Dec. A few days later I received an email from them stating the dealer would contact me in the next 24-48 hours. That never happened.

Jan 6 I call customer service again, I ask to change by case to a "buy back" since this has been going on since August. Next day a case manager calls and ask what is my expected outcome. I told him a buy back if they can't fix the brakes. He asked to give him until 1/16 to see what he can do.

1/12 my local dealer texts me all the parts are in (miraculously). Dropped it off same day, and picked it up today.

I was fed up with the loud annoying sound a $70K vehicle made which is why I took the aggressive route of a buyback. I had a feeling that would make them move.

Good luck to the rest of my LC friends.
Yikes.... We need a list of the good bad and ugly stealerships.

just wait till the squeal comes back, my understanding, per the local dealer here, is they are guessing on this "fix"

How frustrating! I have been waiting several weeks for the parts to fix my squeaking brakes. I was told on the phone that they receive only one of the parts for this fix per week from Toyota, and it is the same part used on the Tundra, Sequoia, other models. I asked how far down I am on the waiting list, and the service manager couldn't tell me. So, squeak on . . . .

Toyota service sucks. That’s why I bought a Passport Trail Sport. Not as good as a LC off off road but the vehicle is a dream. No issues with service.
LC looks great but I didn’t want all the headaches that come with it.

Got my squeal fixed about 6 months ago and so far so good but I still have PTDS every time I back out of my driveway.

Just had my brake squeal fixed yesterday after one month wait for parts no issues. I previously had me 25 4Runner SR 5 brake squeal fixed and no issues with 10k miles after the fix, I also noticed on my 4 runner that the brakes did not grab after the brake squeal TSB was completed.

Had mine done last week. The dealer had told me a similar thing (or worse) back in October when I took it in for the 10k service and asked to have the kit ordered. Specifically that they could only order this fix kit once a week (not that they'd get them one in every week).

Ended up calling to schedule the fix for the back up camera software and asked about status. My kit had not come in but the person in front of me had moved out of state so they did the fix with that one.

500 miles later no squeak, but that's not much of a test mileage. Mine was intermittent and went away if I modulated the brakes, so I'm going to try to not think about it.

Sounds like your dealership is full of VERY incompetent people. Sorry to hear that. Glad that's all resolved.

I had mine replaced Friday and also had the back up camera reprogramed. Didn't have a problem with the camera, so will see.

Is the squeaking resolved ?
As of the past 20 hours, yes, no squeal in reverse. It was always bad first thing in the morning when it's cold out, haven't had a chance to pull it out when it's cold.

This might be the case. They're in town so it is really convenient. Maybe for my next oil change I'll try the dealer next city over.

They are a super busy dealer, I just think the volume is really high and the reps are under water and don't care much.

Good luck! It took me 5 months and two calls to corporate to get it resolved.

Does anyone else exerience brakes squeel in reverse? Mine seems to do it mostly after it has sat for a while. I only notice it in reverse.
Yes a short squeal on first trip out of garage - maybe will better ?

PSA to the people asking about brake squeal issue (who's late to this thread).

YES. There is a TSB fix for this known issue.

  • TSB Number: T-SB-0046-25.
  • Affected Vehicles: 2024–2025 Model Year Land Cruiser (250 Series) and 2025 4Runner.
  • The Problem: High-pitched screeching/howling sound from front brakes, commonly occurring when cold and in reverse.
  • The Fix: Replacement of front brake pad kits and shim kits (Part Number: 04945-60100) and application of specialized grease at contact points.
  • Action Required: Owners experiencing this noise should contact their local Toyota dealership to have the TSB applied under warranty.
I contacted my dealership the day when the TSB came out. Was informed that they have to ordered the parts but I am in the system and they will contact me.

I also had to wait for about a month before they contacted me the parts have arrived. The recall was completed in a few hours (same day pick up). It's been about 5000 miles since the recall repair and the brakes have no squeal whatsoever. Looks like they have resolved it properly.

I had mine done last summer. The squeak has come back, but only very occasionally now (usually after muddy, sandy/dusty, or slushy roads). It used to be almost EVERY. SINGLE. REVERSE.

I can live with the way it is.

We had this "fix" done about 6 months ago and low and behold, the squeal has returned. We are reaching out to the dealership to see what the next step is.

I’m pleased to report on the second try two months ago they seemed to have completely fixed it. Time will tell if the fix holds as the first time it came back within 30 days. I will give some credit that my service manager proactively reached out six months after the first repair and asked how it was doing and when I informed them, they had not repaired it. They told me they would order parts immediately, although they were back ordered and called me when they were in and to my surprise within two weeks, they called me back and said the parts were in, and they would schedule me as soon as I was ready. What was super frustrating was I had to submit video evidence from my doorbell camera of me waking up the neighborhood backing out the driveway and Reyes holy heck with Toyota Brandon engagement and the dealership to even get them to schedule the first one, but admittedly that was before the TSB was published. The second experience has been much more positive.

I am very glad that your dealer did the right thing.

I still can’t figure out what the hell was going through the Toyota executives minds by requiring that type of documentation. Did they really think that EVERYONE was just making shit up about their poor design, and implementation?
