Brakes Squeal

lcoal dealership still has not called me back on parts availability. They mentioned 3 weeks, not one call for an update.
and they mentioned replacing the springs, but on the TSB it mentions shim kit and pads...sigh so tired of dealerships
Sorry to hear about all the bad dealerships out there. I went in for 20k service and I asked if TSB was out yet. They said yup and addressed it that day without issue. There are still some “no drama” dealers out there luckily

Has anybody tried the oldest squeaking brake cure in the book. Take it up to 80-100, whatever you feel confident doing, and STAND on the brakes to burn off the oxidation which is usually the cause of squeaking brakes. Been doing this with my Pagid Yellows for years because street driving doesn't ever use the brakes at a proper temp. Try it.

I was able to get mine done when I did my 10k service. I did have to take mine back due to the dealership not checking the fluids and a bad vibration over 60 mph. They corrected this and it’s all good now. I’ve towed and everything since the TSB no more break noise.

This re call. Must be costing Toyota a fortune to fix...

Shame on Toyota for delays on this problem

Yes, my brakes squeal at 5000 miles while backing up only. No matter what time of the day. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it for me at no charge. They have not squeal since and I now have 10,000 miles on my Land Cruiser.

Where in Florida? What dealership?

Welcome to the asylum.

can anyone recommend a good service dealership in silicon valley california?
Steven's creek seemed to be good, but no updates on the parts. Fremont, called and asked for a quote on skid plate install and they seem straight forward ($245 for install).

Evan's Toyota in Milpitas...LoL, the service manager said, we have to drill to install oem skid plates, and it'll cost me (don't quite remember) $265 per 3/4 hour (LOL). these guys are a joke. heard some stories about this dealership

I dropped my LC off for 10000-mile service yesterday. Made a note the breaks squeal in reverse only. I also made sure to drive into the parking spot, so they'd have to back out of it. Dealership confirmed brake squeal and verified there is TSB for the brakes. 1-day to order parts, LC is ready for pickup.

Yeah avoid Milpitas, the service department took a real nosedive under the new ownership. The only thing that dealership has been useful for under this ownership is test drives — they mark up the vehicles so much they’ve always got lots of high demand vehicles on the lot.

The other one to avoid is Dublin, they’re insanely expensive.

I’ve been going to Fremont, they’re ok. The skid plates are super easy to install though, I ended up doing it myself.

Good news Dealer is going to fix it again. They mentioned there is a piece used on the front calipers that is now part of the TSB that they did not install the first time back in July. She referred to it as a “front caliper adjustment kit” and stated they are having better luck with this part being added to the fix. She actually brought it up unsolicited when I called for an oil change. They asked if the brake squeal had reoccurred. I said Yep and they seemed to know why.

Bad news parts are on back order estimating +/- 6 weeks out.

Also mentioned there is a TSB on the rear camera now.

Yes 3 times and did not work. Brakes are great though. It wants to stand on its front bumper.

Yes, brakes squeal in reverse when backing out of the garage. Annoying, but I didn't mention it when I took it in for 10,000 mile service because I was more concerned about the squealing and lurching which turned out to be the transmission pump issue. Will be in shop for estimated 6 weeks. I should call and have them check this, too, while it is in seevice.

You should, because there may be a wait on the parts and hopefully they can have that done while it’s sitting in the shop.

The drama continues.....
On 8/19 I received a text from the service rep that the parts are in and to make an appointment. I made an appointment for today (9/10). Drive my happy self over there, I told them why I was there and to look at a warranty item (rear AC wouldn't shut off) and do an oil change. Told me they need it overnight, I told them I was told they only need it for the day, hence why I brought it in 20 days later. Dude offers a rental. I asked the rep to confirm the parts are in. While I was standing there he called the parts department, they confirmed the parts are in. Relieved, I took the rental home.

Got a call in the afternoon that one of the parts is missing. What do you mean "missing"? They offered to come pick up the car or keep the rental, I opted for my LC back. When I arrived, the cashier couldn't find my paperwork, waited around for like 10 minutes. Finally she talks to a rep who is with a customer and informs her to release the car. They give me my keys. I ask them to leave the rental where it is so I can move over two car seats. I ask to speak to a service rep about what part is missing, she directs me to the service manager on hand. I talk to him. I dropped the sequence of events and asked why was I told the parts were in when they weren't. He looks into it, asks who told me the parts are in. I handed him my phone, he reads through the covo and looks up the number that texted me. He calls over the rep from my 8/4 appointment, asks him you texted Mr. Fatsocells his parts are in? Manager asks him did you check the parts are in? He said I received an email and called Mr Fatsocells. Rep from 8/4 walks away. Manager apologized for the shit show. Comped my oli change, and offered to pick up the LC from my residence once the parts are in.

I asked not to bring my LC to the door since I needed to swap car seats from the rental back into my car. I go to where the rental was parked, mind you, I asked the cashier to leave the rental where it is parked so i can remove the two car seats, the rental is not there. WTF. No I have to go back in, track a rental person down, she said they will bring the rental to the door and to drive my LC to the door. I spoke to manager on my way out again (not to complain but to kill time). I start driving and I see the rental in thefar distance parked, and I see the two car seats in the back. I nod my head in disappointment. I park next to it. It was locked. So I called, told it's me the annoying customer who needs to get his car seats out of the rental. She said oh the rental is by the door, I was like I'm standing next to the rental in the back. She asked where exactly, told her the exact location. A few moments later, I see her walking towards me and she realized she had the wrong keys. She turns back, gets the right keys and unlocks from a distance. I swap car seats and left as fast as I could.

TL;DR
  • Before you go in for your appointment, make sure all the parts are in!
  • Attached screenshot with red arrow is the part that is "missing"
  • Hope your dealers are more competent than mine
I had enough of waiting around so I contacted Toyota Customer Service in early Dec. A few days later I received an email from them stating the dealer would contact me in the next 24-48 hours. That never happened.

Jan 6 I call customer service again, I ask to change by case to a "buy back" since this has been going on since August. Next day a case manager calls and ask what is my expected outcome. I told him a buy back if they can't fix the brakes. He asked to give him until 1/16 to see what he can do.

1/12 my local dealer texts me all the parts are in (miraculously). Dropped it off same day, and picked it up today.

I was fed up with the loud annoying sound a $70K vehicle made which is why I took the aggressive route of a buyback. I had a feeling that would make them move.

Good luck to the rest of my LC friends.
