Brakes Squeal

I'm thinking there is a slight misalignment in the caliper mounting surfaces and the piston face, which would cant the pad ever so slightly (slightly larger space at the front edge of the pads vs the rear edge of the pads) which is why going forward no squeal and reverse crazy squeal. As you apply the brakes, over a period of time, the rear of the pad makes contact first and that would increase the space etc...... and when you reverse that sharp edge of the rear of the pads scrapes the rotor etc...... New pads, if properly bedded, erases that gap for a period of time.

Might be why Toyota is slow on a TSB as it would require machining of the calipers or mounting surfaces. Just my opinion tho'
I read somewhere that the reason for the delay is that there is a supply chain issue with one of the parts needed. But I could be wrong.

Mine sequels several times per day, has anyone got the TSB number they could share? I am getting the fist TC service done this week and wanna make sure its well notated at the dealer

I'm not aware that a TSB was issued for the LC yet.........

had been having non-stop squeal since i got my truck. Over the weekend did a pretty aggressive offroad day that ending with a very steep 10 mile decent. I used the DAC the whole way keeping the speeds around 5-7 miles per hours. Total smoked the breaks, smelled them burning and peddle really needed to step on it to come to complete stop. I should have been in 4 lo. On the bring side, the brakes have not made any reverse squeal since....

I had a similar descent down a steep Georgia mountain, where Miss Daisy’s brakes were smokin’ hot. The squeeling went away. I was going to write a post about how to fix the brake squeal, but about a week later, the squealing returned.

Gonna start calling them Toyoyo because of the back and forth to the dealership. Hopefully they will realize and fix this problem before it becomes a more serious. It not, people won’t buy the LC.

Yeah, just wait B254. You don’t have enough miles on the truck yet I am on the fence getting one now b/c of so many issues with the LC. GX OT not much better with the hood vibrations and the seat heater/cooler not working properly along with some complaints about the brakes making noise like the one I just heard. Obviously it’s the stock brakes coming from Japan and I heard a lot of components are made in China.

Regen can do some of the braking until the battery is full. Turning on the AC, and the inverter if there is something to power, helps use some of the watts created by regen.

As you learned here's not much engine braking in Hi. You really need to stop and reconfigure on a long downhill if you are riding the brakes. I have stopped to let the brakes cool and reduce the battery level.

In colder weather max defrost probably runs the AC and also heats the cabin.

That's interesting -- we took ours for its first real offroad trip at around 5k miles at the end of march, and it mostly stopped doing it after that. Here ~2 months later it's just starting to do it a little again.

So many issues with the LC? Like what lol.

It goes away after slow consistent easy break in pretty much like everything else.
Takes about 5k miles.
I am sure it depends on the drivers level of understanding and sophistication as so many of the other hi tech issues that are considered big problems, NOT.

Thanks for the number I’ll be sending a video and calling today. I went to my dealership with the video and they said there was nothing they could do until they get the recall and parts. He said if they fixed it they would be using the same parts causing the squeal. The service mgr also added it took 8 months to get parts to fix the Tundras.

I can't tell if this is a joke. Need emojis.

As of today, June 3, 2025, Eduardo at Toyota Brand Mgmt says there is still NO TSB for Land Cruiser brake squeals. Customers need to call 800-331-4331 and complain.

You need to call Toyota Brand Mgmt at 800-331-4331 and complain so we can get the TSB for our squealing Land Cruisers.

I'm finding brake pads for LC250 available from at least a few manufacturers:

Bendix
Centric/Power Stop
Bosch
Raybestos
Dynamic Friction/DFC
Quality Built
Prices online range from $40-60 a set for the front axle.

More expensive brake pads are also available from brands like:
ADVICS
Hawk
EBC
Dixcel

Maybe some of these are a little quieter than OEM Toyota?

I think this is great information for anyone willing to try up to 10 different brake pads for a fix. What we really need is for Toyota to step up and fix the problem like they are for the Tundras and Sequoias.
