Which Differential Oil - 75W-85 or 75W-90? Even Toyota doesn't seem to know.

I went ahead and ordered some Redline 75w-85.

Toyota is the only supplier I can find that I trust for the 75W transfer gear oil, though.

Redline Synthetic MT-LV. MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 Gear Oil is listed as an OEM replacement for the Toyota 75W. I used this in manual transmission Tacomas for the transfer case and transmission without issue and made them smoother shifting too.

I'm going to use Amsoil Sever Gear 75w-85 in the differentials (already bought it). And the Ravenol 75W in the transfer. Going to do the front dif at 15,000 miles (soon) and the front and rear dif and transfer case at 30,000 miles.

These are pretty universal and easy like changing motor oil, if you look at any Tacoma or 4Runner video on youtube it'll be the same. Basically, just remove the fill plug then remove the drain plug. Once it is done draining put a new crush washer on the drain plug and reinstall. You either need a pump or squeeze bags for the fluid (some oil like Amsoil you can buy in easy fill squeeze bags). You fill them until fluid runs out the fill hole, stop so not to overfill beyond the bottom of the fill hole and put a new crush washer on and reinstall the fill plug. The drain and fill holes are easy to identify looking at the differentials and transfer case. But like I said, should be easy to find a youtube video of a Tacoma or 4Runner if you want to double check.

Thank you for the reply. I’ve been doing my own oil and filter changes on my lc250 and I thought it wouldn’t be difficult do a drain and fill.

It’s not difficult, make sure you can loosen the fill hole bolt before draining. A gear oil pump makes it much easier.

I believe that for the rear differential the socket size is 24mm, right?

What is the front differential hex/socket size for our lc250? I saw someone posted a video on a 5th gen Tacoma that used a 10mm hex socket.

Where did you get the parts numbers, TIS doesn't seem to list them anywhere in the instructions.
