The Toyota team will have a lot of engineering data about the transmissions that have failed that us drivers will never have, including how the vehicles have been driven. In the meantime, it looks like it’s a lot of fun to speculate in these forum threads which LC250s might catastrophically fail though!Hmm - not an mechanic or expert on that matter and subject but wondering if Toyota team knows if
We’ll probably never have the level of detail that Toyota’s engineers do about these failures or the fix, but sharing information among us helps drivers stay informed. It’s always better to have some insight than none at all. Even if it is just fun speculation...The Toyota team will have a lot of engineering data about the transmissions that have failed that us drivers will never have, including how the vehicles have been driven. Its almost like the 24/early 2025 have some more miles/use on them than newer ones. Afaik there has been no changes to At least parts of revisions. I suppose could be updated to manufacturing processes but we wouldn't have access to that information. We’ll probably never have the level of detail that Toyota’s engineers do about these failures or the fix, but sharing information among us helps drivers stay informed. For example, hearing that horrible noise and knowing others have experienced the same issue is very different from hearing it and having no idea what’s going on.
That, to me, is the real value of being part of this LC Forum community, learning from each other and staying ahead of the unknowns.
The obvious is that the transmission has issues and is not bullet proof yet! it could be a simple thing that Toyota already fixed --as reported issued are just with the earlier models 2024 up to Q1 / Q2 of 2025 - or catastrophic.. that's to be discovered![]()

UPDATE 11/10/25
I heard back from the dealership today. They said that it was the oil pump with the transmission that has gone bad and the entire transmission and torque converter need to be replaced. No ETA on the parts but they will be giving me a loner. I will be calling Toyota Brand Engagement in the next few days since that has seemed to help expedite things for other members of this forum.
I have to say I’m very disappointed with this news but I am very happy with the support of this forum. Thanks to the information I was able to gather from here I was able to “soften the blow” a little since I knew going into it that it could be a major issue. I will continue to update this thread as I go through this process so that maybe I can help the next person this happens to. Stay tuned…

Yes, there could be a direct correlation between the grade of fuel used, how frequently the motor oil was changed, and brands of wheels and tires installed with complete transmission failure. So many potential fun insights could be gained! The obvious is that the transmission has issues and is not bullet proof yet! it could be a simple thing that Toyota already fixed --as reported issued are just with the earlier models 2024 up to Q1 / Q2 of 2025 - or catastrophic.. that's to be discovered![]()

I spoke with Toyota Brand Engagement yesterday. I have an open case with them at the moment. Apparently, they have a specific department that tries to track down back ordered parts. We'll see where that gets me.
The dealership gave me a loaner: a Highlander. Its no LC but at least it has AWD since we're heading into winter here in NH.
I'm not sure what else I can do at this point but wait. When I hear more from the dealership or the Brand Engagement, I'll update this post.
About as much as which plant your lc250 is assembled in.Fuel grade can affect transmission failure???….
You forgot the tire size as wellAbout as much as which plant your lc250 is assembled in.
That's awesome and quick i'm assuming.. Good luck with the new transm. - i would negotiate to extend the warranty with the dealership.. or maybe get the ECP ?Got the call from the dealer that my LC is ready to be picked up. OP has DM'd me as his rig and mine are in the same dealer with the same problem.
Maybe it's not the gas or the tire size but that you can't drive these vehicles in New Hampshire or the transmission fails.
All joking aside. I will be returning the loaner Tacoma tomorrow and taking back my Land Cruiser with the hopes that it wont happen again at 50k miles after my warranty is over and I have to pay for a new transmission out of pocket.I'll keep people posted as to my experience with the replaced transmission.

OMG. Cross my fingers on my 2025 LC 1958. I did get a 8 year extended warranty on mine. The LC being a fairly new design makes me wonder of what gremlins are to come. Thanks for the info. Keep us posted. Very good you let us know.TL;DR - Horrible noise when the vehicle is in gear and at a complete stop. About 14,000 mi on the odometer. No prior warning. Other posts on this forum suggest this is likely the electric pump inside the transmission. Dealer confirmed this is the problem. Waiting on parts now. More to come.

Similar threads here and here.
Last night after sitting idle waiting in the parking lot, my vehicle started making "the noise." No warning lights on the dash, no unusual handling from the vehicle only a horrible screeching noise whenever the vehicle came to a full stop. The noise would go way if I shifted the vehicle into neutral or started moving again. I took the vehicle for spin around the block to see if it would go way and also noticed that the oil pressure was going up and down fairly rapidly. I drove the vehicle home and parked it overnight in my garage.
This morning, I drove the vehicle around the neighborhood and within a few minutes the noise came back. I took a video of the noise, see below.
As of the time of this post the vehicle is at my local dealership waiting for a service appointment tomorrow morning. Once I know more I will update this thread.
