Hi folks - this would be Google enabling their maps app to finally communicate with the Toyota/Carplay interface that allows this functionality. The “API” - which is the specification that allows two interfaces to communicate together - is likely defined by Apple and the Toyota embedded software in the truck has to support it. I dont know that for sure but that would be my educated guess. Google maps was the laggard here.
supposedly its on the server side for them to enable on a user basis. how they determine is unknown. but i have it and my wife didnt for a month but she does now. they also tweaked how the information is displayed on the hud from about a month ago.

its quite hard to take a picture because my phone camera focuses on the outside vs the hud
Software engineer here, specifically for a consumer app - and yes this is exactly how any feature gets rolled out these days. The feature may have been coded and supported in the app for months already, maybe running as a low volume experiment first. Then when you are ready to fully ship it, you slowly add users to the bucket. It's also common to keep a long term holdout group - a couple percent of users who never get the feature - and after a longer period you'll see any other impacts there may have been that may not have been noticed in the shorter experiment cycle.

Checked and found that Google Maps now works with verbal directions and on my 2024 FE HUD via iOS phone carplay

I have been given to understand to have the HUD display from Google Maps, the best options is to use a Android Phone not iPhone. Download Android Auto App to have the integration done on LC250 HUD. Connect your Android Phone with a high quality cable to the given 'C' Ports below the dashboard. Here comes the sad part "BUTT", that not all Android phone models work in such integration, due to each Mfr software licencing agreement rights with Google LLC. Best of luck, I am not a fan of Android. I can live with iPhone and has been perfectly working on the HUD so far with Apple Map iOS integration.

Apple Maps work here in UAE and the directions come over to HUD, however apple maps is not the favourite its gmaps or waze. For some reason this is not working atleast for me in UAE

It happened today!!! Google maps navigation popped up in HUD

Hmmm, I have a 2024 FE edition and have always had a newest edition Google Pixel Android phone and that has never worked for me and it still does not work. The only way to get directions to pop up on the HUD is to use the crappy Toyota maps.
Same here. Don't ask me to explain Google or Toyota's software rollout maps...we're just about on opposite sides of the Earth!
I did note that I still have to have the Drivers Assist selected in the center of the dash.

i dont believe this is a final version that will get rolled out to everyone yet. i did about 200 miles of driving over the weekend and google maps hud integration still has bugs. the map on the infotainment acts normal but there is a delay to the change of hud display after executing some turns/commands.
Same here, yesterday! I had tried as recently as last week and late afternoon yesterday Whaaah-laah! I did try Waze as well but that did not work. While I find the Google Maps UI much better, Waze makes more aggressive changes in routing when there is traffic often saving me a few minutes on my commute.
Happy to have the Googles though!
