Lost my maps when Remote Connect and Drive Connect expired?

Probably one of the first to experience this. I rolled past my 1 year anniversary today and my Remote Connect and Drive Connect trials have now expired. I did not and do not plan to renew as the features aren’t worth $15 per month to me.

That being said, I do use the onboard navigation just to see the map when I am driving around. This morning, I get the attached message instead of the map and I can’t clear it to get the map back. I click on “Get Started” and it send me to a button to subscribe. I tried clicking on the send link and entered my phone number and nothing…just says cannot send the link. Tied enabling Wi-Fi in the car when back at home and tried sending the link again. Still no luck.

So…does this mean that you cannot get maps at all without subscribing to Drive Connect? Seems crazy if true…no other car I own works this way. Yes, I expect to lose navigation and cloud map services like traffic, but figured the base map would stay. Are we all going to be stuck with this purple message screen where a map should be unless we subscribe?

I have my 10k service next week, so I’ll try to get the scoop from the dealer if no one else knows.

Thanks!

P.S. before you state the obvious…yes, I know I can still use Apple Maps and Google maps with CarPlay. I just like using the built in map when driving around and not navigating.

I don't subscribe and have the Toyota maps, no way to input an address that I can see, but the maps are there.
I’ll keep looking. Still can’t figure it out.

When did you get your car? I know you were early like me. Maybe your free trial is still running? Mine cut out literally one year after I got the car which was today.

Miss Daisy’s Toyota map took me ~ 1/2 mile away from where I asked it to take me many months ago, and also a couple of months ago, when Apple CarPlay was acting up. Now, Apple Car Play almost always works. I hope I never have to use Toyota navigation again.

I hadn’t noticed because of CarPlay, but it looks like the same thing happened to me. My free trial ran out last week.

It's definitely a subscription required. We've been through a full off>on>off cycle in a 2024 Tacoma and without a subscription you only get the purple screen.
@EOD Guy for the sake of science can you check the Subscriptions section of the Toyota app to see if you have an active trial for Drive Connect?
Edit: Just to add - If it's worth $15 to find out you can activate and cancel subscriptions really easily using the Toyota app.

Thanks for the confirmation all. Seems like it is a Toyota thing as I read on forums for other models about the same thing happening.

Thanks @LChomie for confirming your experience with the Tacoma too.

I’m fine using Apple Maps and Google Maps and OnX maps…I do that anyhow. Just wish I could eliminate the purple subscribe screen if I don’t want Toyota maps. Also, seems totally lame that Toyota won’t retain at least base map functionality without a MONTHLY subscription…every other car I’ve known of at least allows that.

Also, why not an annual subscription for a discount or a multi year agreement after purchase for a discount? Every streaming service…and OnX does that. Seems dumb that Toyota doesn’t.

Off the soapbox…as others have said before…Toyota is slow to change with tech.

Yes, mine has the same issue. The "subscription", that I was unaware of, expired two weeks ago and I already miss the TJA (Traffic Jam Assist) controls and the remote start from my phone.

I used the remote start a lot when I needed to leave my dog in the car while I run in a store. It was very helpful.

Sad to see Toyota has gone the way of BWM with asking for monthly fees for services that should be included with the purchase of such an expensive vehicle.

Your dealership’s finance dept can score you a discount on the subscription. The convenience is worth it, but I’m not half sure $200 a year worth it.

This happened in our last leased Highlander, as well. The built-in map is subscription-based and disappeared after the trial subscription ended after 18 months. We use Google Map via Apple CarPlay all the time, so we don't really care about the map. But it is annoying to be greeted with the blue ad screen every time I start the car.

My 2025 came with the Remote Access subscription but not the Maps, so I always got the blue sales page. I subscribed for one month. While I like the Maps feature, I didn't want to pay $180 per year for it.

I have an Android phone and have Android Auto link up to the display. This provides the Map and many other features, my favorite being hands-free text messaging. I'd like to see if OnX works with this setup.

I have never used the Toyota app since driving off the lot, where I promptly opted out of every thing. Not taking a chance on logging in if there is a fluke in the system and they don't know about me and my status...... LOL
