Fuel Type

Just over 15,000 miles of road trips traveling from Arizona (I live in Arizona)and travel frequently between California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Washington and Oregon.
All these states the primary premium octane grade is no higher than 91 at the mainstream gas pumps. I am sure higher octane can be found but would be limited.
I have not had any issues, I primarily run Chevron premium.

"out west", i.e. in higher elevations there is less oxygen in the air. Therefore the gasoline used needs to be more explosive (lower octane fuels=more explosive). That is one reason you will typically see "regular" gas at 85 octane and "Super premium" gas topping out at 91 octane. The equivalent to 91 octane at sea level is usually 89 octane at higher elevations.

No, not "sorta". Toyota, the manufacturer states to use "premium" (91 octane) fuel.

Seems pretty simple.

Not really. I knew this when I bought it and have had no issues with the size of the tank. Mine is a weekend driver, so I only fill up every two weeks.

Tank size is #1 item that Toyota should address on the LC. I’d replace it tomorrow w/ larger tank if a reputable vendor made a larger poly tank. Not very interested in a metal welded tank..
One of best DIY upgrades I’ve ever done was on our 25 Tundra swapping out 22G to OE 32G fuel tank. Love having 500 mile range.

Today, I drove from Cherokee County NC to Murfreesboro TN, ~200 miles, and got 29.8 Mpg on the first leg, and 30.4 MPG (E-0 fuel, wise driving technique) on the second leg (we stopped for a bathroom break). So, we have an easy 450 mile range before we need to fill up.

I haven’t towed my 1400# wooden boat yet, so I don’t know what kind of hit we will take towing it. If I was pulling a camper, I would get that big aftermarket tank installed.. or do it myself.

Did you drive at 40mph for the whole trip? Once I break 70 the mileage drops. Forget about 80, but it's still better than my Suburban got.

Yes, you're right, less than 91 is sub-optimal.

PUSHING A BRICK THROUGH THE AIR IS COSTLY. MPG falls off rapidly above 63,… for me..

Posted speed limits, except on the interstate.. then 63 MPH on cruise control.. NO TRAFFIC WAS HELD UP.

Over 30k miles. Used regular since day one. I get an average of 25mpg or better. Toyota recommends premium for optimal performance, but I’ve seen many lc250 owners who barely get anything close to 25mpg on premium.
Also, Toyota recommends 10k oil changes, but I do my oil changes every 2k miles. I know it’s over kill .

I regularly get 380 miles per fill up with 3 gallons of reserve. I think that really good for a heavy suv.

P.s. I live in Northern VA. The terrain is mostly flat. I’ve got premium 20 inch wheels are quite heavy.

I drive it mostly for work and hit the rush hour almost all the time. For weekend long drives, driving at 55-70 mph, I still get 25+ mpg. Anything over 70mph, the mpg drops drastically.

The fresh oil helps keep the MPGs up, what brand of oil you using?
I'm over here @ 3650 miles since my last oil change and i'm itching to change my oil, i'm going to change @4k and pull a blackstone sample

I wouldn't compare bad MPG numbers to people who use premium gas, lots of vehicle setup factors effects the MPG such as (but not limited too); aftermarket tires, heavy aftermarket and 20" wheels. The scam toyota dealers love slapping on cheap heavy wheel/Tire combos on the 1958s and fooling people into financing the vehicle with the heavy tire/wheel package.
id imagine "roached" 9000+ mile oil would loose at least 3-4 mpg
Also take into consideration Toyota 0w20 has almost 900ppm of molybdenum to help with wear and MPG, lots of people running Mobil 1 etc with less than 80ppm of moly, molybdenum also impacts the MPGs
