CBI Heritage Series Grille Review/Installation

Hey everyone,

I figured I’d make a quick write-up since I might be one of the first customers to actually receive and install the new CBI Heritage Series Grille for the Toyota Land Cruiser 250.

I placed my order on August 8th and received/installed it today (9/17). Overall, the grille seems well made, though there are a couple of slightly rough edges—specifically on the lower piece right around the front camera cutout, but nothing major. The kit includes the individual T O Y O T A lettering, which you’ll need to position and level yourself.

The Installation Process

• Bumper Removal is Mandatory: You definitely have to drop the front bumper. The factory grille has several important parts that need to be transferred over, including the active grille shutter, radar sensor, and some U nuts.
• Lower Grille Clamps: The lower section attaches via clamps around the OEM grille. It won't damage the original grille, but it uses multiple brackets secured by four tiny screws each. Attempting this without fully removing the bumper is essentially impossible. I included an image of theses clamps and screws.
• No Official Instructions (Yet): The packaging included a flyer pointing to CBI’s website for directions, but at the time of writing, no guide has been posted yet. Since dropping the bumper was required, I followed this YouTube guide.
• Once the bumper is off, it’s relatively straightforward to see what needs to be unbolted and transferred over. Reassembly went relatively smoothly (see issue below), and a test drive confirmed all sensors, radar, and cameras are functioning properly.

Important Note (Disconnect Your Battery!): I didn't disconnect the 12V battery before starting, which was definitely a mistake. When dropping the bumper, you have to unplug a large wiring harness on the passenger side. After reassembly, powering on the vehicle immediately triggered a massive spamming of warning lights and error codes.

The steps I took to fix this were ensure the passenger side harness is seated securely, then disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 10 minutes. Once reconnected, all the codes went away and the vehicle returned to normal. So just don't be an idiot like me and disconnect your battery before you start.
