There's some YT videos from Lockdown security in Toronto where they say the best one they sell is the Starline E9 LCD, which is similar to the IGLA or Autowatch Ghost, but it comes with an alarm with a 2-way remote so you'll be notified if your car is being broken into (and you're in range). The only potential downside seems to be that the insurance companies may not recognize it for an insurance discount while IGLA and Ghost are listed. One insurance company i checked had a list of specific devices whereas another just asked if the car had an aftermarket immobilizer.

I keep mine inside a garage. And I won’t take it downtown. Which is a bummer.
But we have a Tesla owned by my wife’s company. So we drive that to ‘vulnerable’ areas and leave the LC safely locked up.
Good thing I never drive to Toronto.

Hello, anyone west of Toronto has installed an Igla system with OBD locking module and the Holdup function on their LC if so any recommendations on good and reputable installers anywhere between Mississauga to Hamilton or even Kitchener?
My Toyota dealer does not install any third party anti theft systems claiming issues with wiring and voiding warranty - and incidents of vehicles catching on fire because of bad wiring … not sure other Toyota dealers install such systems as well..
Waiting for my LC and would like to get that installed on delivery/arrival ..

Hey Chris, I bought my LC in Toronto, ( I live downtown) and took it the next day to Durham Autohaus, I know it’s not the area you are looking for, but they do a great job, I had the front windows tinted at the same time. I booked a cheap hotel for the day, and worked remotely from the hotel, LC was ready by 3:00 pm to drive home.
Chris, I bought my LC from Ancaster Toyota. They had my IGLA install near their location. Call them and they can provide info. I am very happy with the IGLA. The installer is great!
Yes that’s the only dealership that offer that I’m guessing - I didn’t get the best quote on the LC from them - I ended going with another dealer ..
if u don’t mind me asking did you get the IGla ALarm or the igla 321 ? With obd block module? Hold-up function?not sure if that is compatible with the LC
And any recommendations for anti-rust solutions my dealer is offering first Canadian module or spray undercoating ! The black rubbery spray.. which I’m not sure is a good solution. I typically spray my 5th gen 4Runner with corrosion free ..
Not sure which, you can phone them and ask. It’s got hijack mode, code to get in that you set up, can put in service mode and has a key fob if you want to use. Works great. You can give someone the key, never going to be able to move it. On the under coating I’m getting it done this fall, going with Waxoyl , put on by Advanced auto salon. Another hint, take a pc of black cardboard and slide it down over you VIN number, no reason to have that exposed.
Just what I have read: “Your car's VIN number is essential for replacing lost or stolen keys. Both dealerships and locksmiths can create new keys using your VIN number. Modern key fobs and transponder keys can also be replaced using the VIN number”
No offense intended, In the US, it was near impossible to get a key fob programmed for a Yaris I used to own (came with only one FOB), from the dealer without the registration and my driver's lic, they checked the VIN, addresses and name to make sure everything matched. Had a similar experience with a locksmith when I tried to get my new credit card key programmed for the LC, he checked my documents but ended up not doing it and I had to take it to the dealer for programming and since it was already in their system under my name, they programmed the key.

try LockDown Security. Very professional team. IGLA prevented at least two attempts that Im aware of on my RX (One in Niagara, second one right in my drive way in Quebec). Many are claiming, that the new StarLine system is superior to IGLA. Maybe, time will tell... the only thing Im missing about IGLA is the fact that at keyfob lock, it would roll up all the windows and sunroof. Unfortunately, Starline is lucking this feature.

I don't think hiding the VIN changes anything. With the right equipment and access to CAN bus a digital key can be programmed. That's the whole point of Immobilizers such as IGLA. It cuts all CAN and digital communication. Without proper code or a immobilizer fob, even the dealership wont be able to program a new key, unless they find where the immobilizer is hidden (it can be anywhere).. That's the whole point of gaining valuable time during the actual theft attempt...
of corse everything is hackable with the right resources and time.

we’re advised to keep the fobs ready for the thieves and during the holidays and cold seasons we also leave some cookies and warm drinks for them as well …Curious why you’ve chosen waxoyl vs corrosion free or fluid film - many reviews indicate the waxoyl dries and cracks .. not sure how true or effective .. I’m leaning towards fluid film or corrosion free. Tried the anti rust electronic device on my 5th gen didn’t stop underbody rust over the years ..curious to hear your thoughts or if you have any previous experience with this product?
I’ve tried Krown it’s messy with dripping I don’t recommend it- then tried corrosion free for more than 7 years works well so far .. also read a report online that it’s the same product used by national defence on vehicles to prevent rust .. as they’ve tested multiple products as well
