Turned off LCA

I think Dubdub is talking about the lanes that you see if you have cruise control info screen on the main dash. Green lines on that screen that represent lane centering disappear when turn signal is used.
Indeed, I’ve muddled both systems up in my brain. The signal should defeat both though, it certainly does in mine.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion

For me, Lane Keep Assist felt very much the same as when a car starts to lose traction on ice at speed. It was extremely unnerving, especially when I was driving in the mountains in situations where there may actually have been ice present. I turned it off.

Lane Trace Assist is a fun toy. It seems to work pretty well but I don’t trust it at highway speed where there are other cars around.

So today I tested what I think others are writing about; "LTA and using signal to change lanes and the LTA shuts down".
This definitely did not happen on mine. I used the signal changed lanes, never touched the gas pedal, and the car continued to follow the lanes once in the new lane. At least I think this is what some are describing. Not sure why some react differently. Must be a setting.
Also after reading post above mine here - I can attest to using LTA many many times and over many hours in speeds of 65-70mph and certainly using for eating something, looking for music, emails, etc etc. I did so as cautiously as I could - eyes scanning, would place hands on wheel if I was passing a car or one approached me, and on curves, but mostly let the car drive itself for the 20 second period before I was given the orange dash notice,. and I can say it works flawlessly. I have learned where it shows its weaknesses. That is on roads where the dividing lines are faint or disappear for short spans, approaching turn-offs on right lane where you are "fed" into the right turn-off, road construction areas, and probably ice though I have not tried on ice and my common sense tells me bad idea. Bottom line I think if you approach with common sense the LTA is an awesome tool.

I did some op tests today while out, just to untwist my brain on what I was experiencing.

LTA (DRCC on): LC attempts to keep me centered between sensed lanes. When I activate a turn signal, the sensed lane boundary indication disappears and I am able to change lanes (at least in that direction) with no physical resistance or system warning. When I disengage my signal the lane is near immediately sensed and indications/adjustments resume. Functions per manual pg 281.

LCA: not my cup of tea. Not even going to try it. I wouldn’t let a car parallel park me, and I’m certainly not going to let a car change lanes in conditions where DRCC is active.

LDA: I turned back on some of this functions sensitivity (was alert only before). The system doesn’t work under 30ish mph per the manual. I can feel it giving me some resistance while driving without DRCC on. As soon as I engage the turn signal that resistance immediately stops. Able to jump across the line at will as long as the signal is active (per manual pg 290). No alerts either. * one exception occurred * there was a vehicle approx 10-15 feet ahead of me at one point. I turned on my signal to get behind them, and there was some resistance that I easily overrode physically.

I keep PDA off, so all of my experience this morning is with that in mind. As far as I can tell, my LC is functioning in accordance with the manual pgs 280-293.

Excellent clarification. On my drive earlier today I decided I must turn off LDA - I want to drift over the lines sometimes in curves, and don’t want to fight the vehicle to do so!

I feel the same as you about LCA - used it a few times and was like “why would I ever want this to happen?”

Ugh, I vote no on all Nannie’s except blind spot monitoring, which doesn’t interfere with my control of the vehicle. And even with all of that allegedly off sometimes the car I love thinks for me, badly, does things I don’t want (like braking) at times when it is not safe because I’ve made a choice entirely within my control and that other good drivers are probably relying on, and isn’t close to what a skilled and attentive driver can do or wants to do. I am a huge fan of this vehicle but the Nannie’s are an excruciating negative and not necessarily useful or safe.
