The “I love my land cruiser but hate this about it” thread…..

I hate:

1. The sun visor that DOES NOT WORK for the side window.

2. The terribly fragile door gasket attached to the door openings. Touch it and it splits open.

3. The VERY HIGH deck elevation at the rear door.

Since we're complaining, here's another one. Lack of UV protection from the side windows. My F150 Tremor has laminated side glass, which provides good UV protection. My LC does not have laminated side glass and I can't find any data that says the side glass has more than minimal UV protection.
Back in 2010 or so, Toyota made a big deal about adding UV protection. Whatever happened to that emphasis?
Please tell me I'm wrong and point to the data that the LC does have side glass UV protection.

Toyota probably could have done a bit better on the engine sound at low speeds.

The MMI software is clunky, especially if you go back and forth between CarPlay and the radio.

That’s about all I’ve got.

  • Unified, easily accessible all-display brightness control through the thumb wheel rheostat (dash and infotainment, ideally with a day- and night-offset as a setting in the infotainment end)
  • Recurring/endless alarms. No warning lights on the dash warning that you turned warnings off!!
  • Stop resetting changed settings on power cycle. Toyota 's default doesn't change what I want, it just harasses me every time I drive. And when the map screen reverts to its default, it is a genuine driving distraction to either cognitively reorient or change it back
  • Cellular based mapping functionality
  • Undefeatable driver monitoring? (experiment w/TrafficJam Assist = off seem to be working)
  • Fixed tire geometry used in mileage/speed calculations
  • Inconvenient summary information- add a button or two to allow fast access to trip, mpg, L/100km, etc, data.
  • Only trip or last-reset statistics, not both with selectable displays (see above)
  • Use of components inconsistent with off-road activities - it should at least be an option to get a radiator support strong enough...
  • Decorative-only roof racks that cost as much as real ones and require $$ to upgrade: featuring angled sheet metal sides, missing cross-members, plastic front and back, and offset horizontal surfaces (edges, front and back vs plane of the cross members)
  • Mouse accessible air breather- & cabin-filters
  • Lift-gate lights that go off when the battery dies
That's all the jumps to mind 😂

I hate the leather or fake leather whichever it may be. Only 3000 miles and I already have 2 rips from my dog. I’ve owned Toyotas with leather seats for a long time and never had a problem. Storage is an issue with the cool box but I’m making it work. Otherwise I absolutely love it.
It is leather with the Premium Package and Sensatec in the non-Premium models. 1958 models have cloth.

The Premium Package is just shy of $5k for 2027.

FWIW there’s a thread on here about replacing those inadequate visors with the proper ones on the GX550. Stinks we have to fix what should’ve been right from the start but at least the fix is not difficult.

For me it is the rattles. I finally fixed b-pillar rattle and now I have c-pillar rattle. I know it is not a critical issue but still, at this price point, we should not be dealing with rattles.

Rattles are definitely irritating. However, you will deal with occasional rattles on every single vehicle make on the market.

In fact, I have found the higher end the manufacturer, they are more prone to occasional rattles.

Sorry but no high end manufacturer has metal on metal rattle because a weld failed.

Well I guess except Lexus with GX550 because they also have the same c-pillar rattle from weld failure.

I have owned three new Range Rover Sports that had constant metallic rattles in the dash and C-pillars that were / could not be corrected.

Every Porsche 911 I have owned have had a series of roof rattles (due to PASM / wide rear tires).

There are thousands and thousands of parts used to manufacture a vehicle. And every one of them wants to break apart from another one.....

My unpleasant experiences among huge proud and love to my FE
1. Small fuel tank——>carry more spare fuel while overland
2. 12v battery——> many bad experiences, ensure to turn engine ON while working on LC and doors must open ! Carry high capacity jump start

I still 💕 and ❤️ my FE 😜

My seat-belts rattle against pillars when not being used.

Well then cut out your seatbelts like our dad's did in the '60's and '70's in their Porsche 911's for better performance on the track.

Speaking of MMI deficiencies, has anyone figured out what the graph of your gas mileage is supposed to do? I've only messed with it a bit, but it seems totally useless at first glance.

You are starting a rabbit hole I escaped from lol. You’re talking about the trip report graph on the infotainment screen, right?

I had that thing queued up for hundreds of miles to see what could potentially be gleaned in realtime while chasing the DTE problem I had. It’s not even good at that by the way!

Yes that abomination/ waste of memory bits.

...you THOUGHT you escaped from... 😎

Just did some mileage experiments over a thousand miles or so recording gas, 'LC data', GPS trip data. Wanted to dive into the graph of mileage soon to what corresponded with what and eliminate some GPS/LC imprecision. I also tried a little and decided I would need to try harder.

Is it kind of a graphical display that doesn't really DO anything?

Personally, i find the hybrid system one of my favorite features. Instant torque for over-taking, hills, offroad obstacles, and towing, et al. Not to mention the electric a/c compressor which is fantastic in traffic because you have proper a/c with the engine off and not burning fuel. The 2500watt 120 outlet is great too. I can run an electric chainsaw and all sorts of high wattage appliances with it.
I really like the hybrid power. Much better than my ‘23 V6 Tacoma.

Fixed the elbow rest issue. I wish there was a better OEM option but for now it has been a godsend!!!!!
