The Skid Plate List

Well just ordered the Victory 4x4 engine and trans skid plates in Aluminum, for those that are First Responders and Military, they do offer 10% discount.
Will see how long it takes to get here. Thanks for the research and inputs on the page.
How do you like the Victory skid plates? Question, I know there is an opening to access the oil filter but what about the oil pan drain plug? Do you have to remove the skid?

Ordered, haven't shipped yet, as soon as they do and get them installed will let you know my thoughts and about the oil drain plug, I do have the fumoto valve in mine.
 
Which Fumoto valve did you install?
This is the one I used, luckily it was same one that was on my Tundra, removed it and put it on the LC

For a gas tank plate:
  • Lexus has one (as seen on Driving Sports TV's video on the comparison between the LC250 and the LX700h) but haven't been able to find a part number for it yet.
  • RCI has one which is supposed to basically be plug-n-play with the FE trim plate package at Fuel Tank Skid Plate | 24- Present Land Cruiser | RCI Off Road
 
After reading all of the post, I pulled the trigger and ordered the aluminum Victory front skid plate. I also decided to order the Valvomax drain plug. Can’t wait to get rid of the thin metal plate attached to the radiator support and the plastic rear section.
 
I just finished installing the Victory 4x4 engine/tranny skid plates, some observations I made during and after installations, some are minor, but a couple are big to me, and one would have stopped me from purchasing.
1. The oil filter panel, should have either been rivnutted or the nuts welded on, there is a chance you will need to get a wrench on the nut, which maybe impossible if it starts turning, or if you drop the nut or nuts, and you don't have a magnet around, your going to have to drop the skid plate.
2. Getting to the oil drain plug (no way are you getting your hand thru the square hole) if dropped, plus the mess it will make on the skid plate, you can reach thru the side, luckily I have fumoto valve on it, so it won't be as messy to change the oil, but getting to the safety clip and pulling the lever over to open, will have to go thru the side of the skid plate.
3. No install instructions for it, only video from Tacoma.
4. I don't know if you were suppose to or not, put the tow hooks back on, but I did.
5. Both engine and tranny skid plates should be one piece, both cam as to pieces,
6. If for some reason one takes it to the dealer to have your oil done or tranny fluid changed, you know they are going to charge to remove the tranny skid plate, will charge also if they have to remove the engine skid plate.
7. There is now nothing keeping rocks or debris from getting to the radiator or cooler.
8. Didn't know what the 2 small holes are for on the front of the skid plate.
9. It can be done without jacking up the LC to do it, tight squeeze though.
Looking back, I should have waited on Talons Garage to come out with theirs, but thought I would give Victory a shot, since its also made in AMERICA.

Unfortunately, Victory is one of the few skid plate manufacturers that use the frame/tow hook mounts and is available in aluminum. Like you, I plan on using the tow hooks. I wasn’t willing to give up the tow hooks.

Do you think a Valvomax oil drain plug will work? Obviously, I will have to access the plug from the side.

It should work. I might take mine down to a machine shop before my next oil change and see if they can cut the hole larger and install rivnut.
I don't think they thought things through. I know my skid plate for my Tundra had hole large enough to get my had in, and the filter area was rivnutted. They just didn't know when they would get to doing the LC.

I had the same idea. I think I will call Victory tomorrow. What size hole are you thinking?

I'm thinking a 3"-4" hole.
Yeah I gave Victory a call and email about my suggestion on the rivnut, the bigger hole etc.
Told them it wasn't thought out very well on the filter door and hole for the drain plug

I think a 3 inch square hole may be a good option. I plan on testing the size by cutting a hole in some scrap plywood. If it works, i will pressure Victory to use my skid as a test… This would be a very simple solution.

Question, is the current small square hole centered below the drain plug?

I might do some marking with it installed and then cut a bigger hole in it, shouldn't be difficult, drill and cut.
The other thing I didn't like was the space left open under the radiator/cooler, but I guess they are making bumper and it will have a filler (strip??)
Here is the email repsonse to my concerns.
1) Mounting Points (Rivnuts/Welded Nuts): The design currently utilizes through-bolts for simplicity and strength, but I understand the convenience welded nuts or rivnuts would offer. I've passed this along to our engineering team for future design considerations. If you do decide you want to install rivnuts you would want to use 5/16 rivnuts (and longer hardware).
2) Great point on accessibility, especially when using a Fumoto valve, while we aimed to provide protection without compromising serviceability, I can understand that there's room for improvement with access holes or hand clearance, admittedly it is tight, but we have been able to service the 250 and oil by reaching through and around the skid without removing it.
3). Transmission Skid Design: The two-piece design is a mostly due to shipping costs. We prefer to manufacture one piece skid when possible, but the shipping rates were astronomical for this specific vehicle and would have added a couple hundred dollars to the product and likely sustained damage in transit.
4) Tow Hook Reinstallation: Yes, the factory tow hooks can be reinstalled with this skid system.
6) Those smaller holes up front are for our jig when we are manufacturing the bumper to ensure the skid is secured in place during fabrication.
7) We don't currently have a front bash plate that bridges the gap between the front bumper and the engine skid plate but we are in process of designing the front Blitz bumper for the LC250 which should be available in the coming weeks. Generally our bumpers and skids when installed together leave very little gap between them.

I just did it myself, didn’t go any further back, went 1” on each side, 1” on the front. My jigsaw skills are below average, but hey it’s done. They should have done that or did a 3 1/2” hole.
You could get away with 3/4” on the sides and front. I have plenty of room with 1”

Does anyone happen to know if the Victory engine skid will conflict with the RCI trans skid?
