The Skid Plate List

Possibly?

I speculate it's to add "/4Run"....if that's a thing manufacturers do?

Side by side pics added for reference

What is everyone's thoughts on the rear diff skid? I don't plan on rock crawling or hitting difficult trails. Do plan to buy the victory 4x4 rear shock skids for peace of mind.

And here i am waiting for CBI to release LC250 skid plate, i know the 4runner one should fit since it's the same frame, but i had sway bar disconnect and i don't know if it'll be a problem or not.

I did see the Toyota OEM Skid Plates and too me they are less thick around 4mm or less. Which to me less protective than the RCI or DV8's I guess and they roughly around 6.5mm. roughly. The actuator is just behind the transmission which is most vulnerable to hits. Toyota has installed a protective clamp. But its too nimble and will get toasted easily . I have customised to 10mm and that absolute like " Iron Dome" to the body frame.

From my point of view, I'm trying to be conscious of the weight I'm adding and with every farkle (portmanteau of "functional" & "sparkle") that I add, the weight adds up fast.

If I eventually do go with aftermarket skids, I'll go with aluminum as a compromise. I have no plan to toboggan over rocks that would necessitate steel skid plates.

Can someone point me to the place on the Toyota site that I can get install directions for all the OEM skids? Google is failing me.

here you go...got it from someone on the forum, can't recall who.

Has anyone been able to confirm if the Lexus GX550 skid plates are compatible?

OEM - Lexus
Front - PT938-60240
Transmission - PT938-60241

From what I can tell they seem work with non-hybrid variants of the LC but haven't been able to confirm.

*Edit: Answering my own question. The Lexus Skid plates will not retrofit onto the LCs due to the frame crossmember being in a different location for the hybrid battery.

The housings are pretty stout I do not think these are necessary and they decrease ground clearance under the diff.

I am not a fan of the design of the factory skids bolting to the front radiator support cross member. From my limited research it seems the DV8 bolt to both factory crossmember and the front recovery mounts. Can anybody confirm?

The DV8 bolts aren't recessed because DV8 doesn't have the means to order a die and the press to stamp their skid plate.

The DV8 photos are nicer, as is the dark color.

Just for reference, i measured ground clearance at ~10.25" to 10.5" from lowest point of OEM diff skid plate.
Lowest point is the transmission/transfer case plate (OEM), right under the SDM motor at about 8.25" to 8.5" clearance. On OEM 20" wheels

Edit: apologies, updated measurements.
Front ~8"-8.25". Rear ~9"-9.25"

Well just ordered the Victory 4x4 engine and trans skid plates in Aluminum, for those that are First Responders and Military, they do offer 10% discount.
Will see how long it takes to get here. Thanks for the research and inputs on the page.

Just in case you wanted to lift the car and put a diff drop kit, not all skid plates clear them, i got in contact with RCI and they confirmed their skid plates would clear a diff drop kit, so I'm happy with it, just waiting for it to arrive by next week.
