Roof Rack? Sherpa vs Gobi?

This may be a rather ridiculous question, is it possible to add a car top carrier like a Thule to the Gobi rack? It seems it would add a bit of versatility to it for my application.

It is designed to do so and comes standard from Gobi with 2 removable crossbars. I've used my inno wedge rack several times. You can buy extended crossbars if you need a wider spread.

The gobi definitely looks cool. Sometimes I wish it sat just a little lower, and I wonder if I had gone with a lower profile rack if I would be getting slightly better mileage. I think I lost a full 1-2 from the steady 20 mpg I was averaging with the nitto’s and no rack. Also, it’s probably overkill for my needs. I mounted a Starlink up there very easily. The metal mesh bottom is nice for DIY mounting or even just ratcheting down things. I’m not sure I’d want a rooftop tent on the gobi because it would be so high. Another thing I’ve realized is there’s no side panel solutions that go over the windows to mount to it from gobi yet, and I’m looking at solutions for fuel after a Colorado trip and some range anxiety. Whereas Sherpa, wescott, and others have that covered already.

It also comes with the rear ladder, but it’s just sitting in my garage because I don’t want to lose back glass function. Install was very straightforward, and I have no complaints with the quality of the rack itself.

Thank you for the honest review. I think this confirms I would be better off choosing one of the lower profile and more functional designs for my use case.
