Roof Rack? Sherpa vs Gobi?

So many roof rack choices, I'm in decision paralysis. Boiling it down to Sherpa Atlas or Gobi Low Profile (not sure how they can call 6.5 inches of height "stealth"). Bonus that I live in Colorado within an hour of either place so factory install is an option.

The Sherpa seems like best of breed for that design, but the Gobi basket design speaks to me, looks functional, and feels land cruiser retro.

FWIW, my own advice is to wait until you’re absolutely certain unless you’ve got deep pockets.

I bought a 3/4 FE-style rack and now I kind of regret it (I love the look, but don’t love the load capacity). My wife’s approaching her limit of patience when it comes to my LC purchases 😂

(We’ll see how she feels after the Overland Expo lol)

I was just about to say I’m waiting for Sherpa to come out with a 3/4 rack. Any other regrets with the 3/4 besides load capacity? Honestly I would have thought a 3/4 would have similar load capacity and more structurally stable since there’s no front overhang.

Nope, that’s my only gripe! Not like I’m going to drop $1k-$4k next week on a RTT but still a little disappointed with myself 😆

If Sherpa made a 3/4 rack, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Not a fan of the Victory branding for some reason.

I did a pretty good amount of research before I bought my Sherpa rack. I really like the functionality of it, but I actually greatly prefer the aesthetics of the Gobi you shared - I think it much better matches the classic design cues that the 250 embraces. I will probably end up replacing my Sherpa eventually just to improve the visual appearance.

Ordered the Gobi. Installation appointment on July 9th, so lead time is apparently no longer an issue with the brand?
If you’re up for it after you get it installed, I’d love to hear what you think about it.

One major consideration when going Gobi is that it’s steel vs aluminum so any scrapes on that powder coat while using the rack can end up rusty if not covered up. I too love and prefer the looks of Gobi but have historically gone with aluminum racks because of this.

I just sold my Sherpa Crestone. It came off the ‘23 4Runner TRD Off-Road that we traded for the ‘25 LC Premium.

I was extremely happy with the Sherpa. Rock solid, quiet, held everything we threw up there, had ample attachments. I’ll be getting the Sherpa Atlas next month.

Just FYI but I had a gobi on my old 4runner and I'd throw my salt water kayaks on top, dripping wet.

I even had a shark rack on that gobi for some trips south and would constantly walk on that rack with sand/salt and it held up extremely well. You can see all the rust on the grating but I could still stand and fish off of the rack just fine

On my old 4runner I had a Gobi for about 2 years. It was quiet and well built, but it was a pain to mount things to and I ended up never really using it. I switched to Front Runner and the mounting was so damn easy, but the wind noise and 1-2 mpg hit was insane. People would always ask about the roof rack, and I would always say, be really sure you need it. For the most part I don't think it's worth it. I'm doing my best to keep the LC roof bare.

I am also in the same dilemma and both within an hour driving distance. I’m leaning towards the gobi since I had the prinsu on my taco and hated the wind noise.

Would love to see some pics after it’s installed!

Front Runner is nice but, noisy from head wind and side winds. It can carrier some weight. I'm over 200lbs and walk all around on top. My new Land Cruiser will not have one for the noise factor.

My install appointment is on July 9th. Gobi includes free local installation but Sherpa charges 2 hours 2 people, so price is essentially equal.
