Range is a real problem - I'm heading to do the Trans Tiaga Road this month

Okay here's an interesting piece of information to add to this issue. I decided to let my tank run down past indicated empty and indicated zero range. I drove maybe another 20 to 25 miles but I didn't keep track of it exactly because I didn't notice exactly when the gauge went to zero.

But the point is I drove it for a while after empty and then just now I brimmed the tank until it's splashed out and put over 19 gallons in assuming I can trust a regulated/ inspected pump.

I usually pump in about 15 gallons if I'm down near empty so this extra reserve in the tank is significant. Also seem surprising that they rate the tank 17.9 but I got over a gallon more than that. I guess some is in the filler neck but still seems like a big discrepancy.

what is sad about this picture is that today i filled up my wifes X3 and it also took 19 gallons. it is about half the size of the LC with 50% better gas mileage at minimum

What year is your wife's BMW X3?
That's what I found about 2024 X3:
"SUV's gas tank size is 17.2 gallons for all models. Its driving range is up to 498 miles under ideal conditions. The gas mileage of the 2024 X3 ranges from 15 MPG in the city to 29 MPG on the highway."

I was doing math based on when gauge is on E and range in car shows <5mi I can pump about 15.0 gallon in. If there are 2.6 useable gallons remaining that does help. 17.6 gal * 15mpg = 264 miles of range. Still bad, but better. Sucks to have to use that significant amount of fuel "blind".

Yes I would have to carry fuel either way but 1-2 jerry cans is reasonable. 4 starts to be kind of ridiculous in my mind.
I’ve been told and I have read that the range you see on the dash does not include the 2 gallons in reserve.

2024. Mpg is 35 on the freeway at 65mph and 25 in the city . On the lc 1958 stock the same routes I was getting 25 hwy and 17 city

How is a 4,000 lbs. unibody luxury compact SUV a useful comparison to the LC 250 for highway gas mileage?

Hi buddy, thanks for sharing so many amazing details. I am stuck with my 8 to 4 cubicle job. I consistently get 430+ plus miles with each tankful.
I have LC LC PREMIUM package, bought in July 2024. 1) I use ,not premium, but regular Sam's Club gas. 2)my LC is 100% stock. 3)I check tire pressure regularly4) I do not drive in the Left lane 5)I drive below 60mph6)I do not carry junk in my car. Hope your mileage improves
BINGO

Ok, so if manufacturer's specs tank capacity is 17.2 gallons, how did you manage to put 19 gallons into it? Not to mention that X3's tank still had at least 1 gallon of gas in it.
A good question. though I don't think 17.2 is the spec. I though it was 17.6. Then a gallon in the filler neck?

Because the engineer stuck a square tank in a space that doesn't completely fill at first click of the pump. It can be properly filled (not overfilled) by a bit of judicious use of a lower flow rate. The stated capacity is a conservative number. Some anal compulsive ex milatary types, some with a history of ordinance skill (ZERO MISCALC ALLOWED, I get it and that takes mores balls than I will ever have) refuse to accept that you can completely fill without an overfill. Said dumbasses think banning intelligence is appropriate.. "I , for one, care less for them" FZ Or in the words of CE "It's a complete CF sir". I DO know the power of brainwashing in our military.

I can already tell I will will love this LC because I will experience reality...not blind beliefs. Feel feel to ignore this .. it will show your IQ.

I bought this vehicle to live as is, on the side of my mountain. It will not be modded into the land of Jeep pretty boy with everything on it but dirt. Mine will get far dirtier.....

I will be at LRP tomorrow teaching people car control skills. I would love an LC to show up. We could have a blast looping it. So you smartasses don't realize I am not clueless yet. I have driven bout everything from a Ferrari FF to an Ineos and G wagon................at their limit. Ineos is a piece of shit on tar. I will fully disclose I have no offroad skills but black ice........................ case dismissed. Sorry to be a bit of an ass but I smelled to much stupidirty to ignore.

You are beyond insufferable and a net negative to the group.

500 Miles per tank?

New personal best today of 31 MPG in mixed use 70/30 highway/city with moderate traffic.

Given those results, I wonder if a 500 mile range on a single tank is theoretically possible? (30 x 17 = 510) :)

For those interested in gauge setup, I use the combined center speedometer/tachometer to keep my desired speed but within the rpm range which ideally will stay within the 1 to 2 lines.

Opportunistically, I will leverage the battery when I can to drop the RPMs to zero and maintain the speed constant. It is not hard once you get the hang of it but the battery boost duration is limited:

0 - 15 MPH = long duration
15 - 35 = moderate duration
35+ = short duration but useful for nudging the glide

Secondarily, the left trip mileage gauge is useful when running because it shows a 2nd horizontal bar comparing the trip average to your current consumption. So when the mpg is above the average will trend up and if below it will go down.

Hopefully, using these tools will help you get the most mileage out of whatever LC model you have.

Lets be real, this was only achieved because it was a short trip, most likely with elevation change as well.

That’s a good one and yes you have shown it is theoretically possible. I’m glad you put the smiley face in there!

I feel that the tiny fuel tank is by far the biggest shortcoming. It has caused me to balk at purchasing multiple times. Unfortunately, everything else in this class is also too small a tank. I sure like the 36 gallons in my F250, but It’s just too big to take in a lot of the places I like to go. PLEASE Toyota, fix this oversight. 24 gallons would be awesome.

LOL, 36 Gal in my 7.3 Godzilla v8 in my F350 tremor goes about the same distance as my LC.
