Purchasing a new ‘26 LCLC - Concerns

On mine the Toyota sidebar goes away when I run CarPlay. Takes three taps from CarPlay to get back to it, then three or four more to change the radio station.

I have 2024 LC now for 10 months and it has 9k miles on it. The only issue that I had on your list was squeaky brakes which I took to the dealer and they fixed at no cost to me. This was my first Toyota that I have owned and I love driving this vehicle every day! Not a week goes by that someone is telling me how nice my Land Cruiser looks! It’s a great SUV!!

I got mine a week ago, almost identical - 2026 in Ice Cap and LC trim. I've loved it coming from a Tesla Model 3.

I haven't had many of the issues you outline except one - today got a rock chip on my windshield at 312 miles. I got it immediately fixed at Safelite but have to say I'm bummed and worried about the future. Its luckily in a pretty inconspicuous spot - close to the RVM console, but its visible even after the repair. I find everything else to be seamless thus far.

Our sidebar stays put when using CarPlay, unless you maximize CarPlay. I did that accidentally once and had to futz with it until I got the sidebar back.

Mine has no such ability. I see the maximize button in screenshots of others’ setups - it’s in the screenshot I posted above too. But I can’t get it to appear on mine. My car insists the software is up to date.

I noticed the ones chiming that have the feature are from Canada. Region differences perhaps?

If Toyota says your infotainment firmware is up to date, that likely means for the model year rather than in general.

I know for other makes there are bootleg updates that are sometimes made available online. That doesn’t mean it will be available for us or easy to execute if it was. For both Jeep and VW, I encountered a few threads where someone bricked their factory radio while trying.

Hello all! Please don’t roast me here. I really really want this vehicle. I have a ‘26 on order which should be delivered in less than a month now. I’ve been pouring over this forum and other LC specific groups. The below issues have me really concerned about following through on this vehicle and that would be very disappointing, as I’ve already sold my daily driver and have my truck slated for trade in. I want one vehicle that is capable off road in Colorado as well as a solid every day driver. Everyone’s experience with these vehicles, I’m sure, are different. However these have me second guessing myself and I think if one researches long enough that they can talk themselves out of anything.

Problems:

• Squeaking Brakes
• Apple Car Play disconnecting, I use it every day.
• Popping Center Console noises
• Easy Crack windshield
• Ineffectiveness of OEM Roof rack rails for basic attachments, such as a bubble box unless it has a perfectly flat bottom. I have an OEM 3/4 rack on my build.
• Transmission issues/failed transmissions/rough shifts at low speeds.
• Small battery
• Key fob/rear door unlock & very limited range
• Easily chipped pain

Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill here? This will be my most expensive purchase besides my house. And financially it’s not an issue. But I don’t want to get stuck with a $70k vehicle with a slide of “known issues”. Maybe they’ve addressed some of this on the ‘26? Anyone driving one yet?

Just remember on sites like this people tend to complain a lot more than praise the car - it’s human nature and people want to vent and nothing wrong with that as there is something calming about getting things off your chest. When you look at how many cars are actually sold compared to how many complaints are made it is a very small percentage so I say go ahead and buy if you like the car. Safe motoring when you finally buy one.

What do you think Toyota could have done to reduce the stone chips in the windscreen? Do you think another vehicle wouldn’t have got a chip in the same circumstances? I have done 12 000 km and had one stone chip driving on highways, local roads and gravel roads and I think that is ok maybe it’s just kama.

Any of us LC owners who are also, or were at some point Jeepers, are laughing our butts off at these reports of recurrence. I drive some gnarly roads as I daily commute from rural farm roads to unkept city highways and back. Slow down, back off and understand you might as well be driving around in the front room and window of your home. My TJR is on year 5 since last replacement… if Rocky can go that long so can these people haha

Laughing at the spot-on comments here.... and yes, I am a former Jeeper as well. Here's my input to the thread:
Problems and solutions:

• Squeaking Brakes - dealer will fix under TSB, seems to be permanently resolved
• Apple Car Play disconnecting - I've never used Wireless CarPlay in any vehicle and had a perfect experience... I drive roughly 2hrs/day and this is a rare occurrence for me
• Popping Center Console noises - never experienced this
• Easy Crack windshield - I wouldn't say 'easy' but can see it happening
• Ineffectiveness of OEM Roof rack rails - There are aftermarket solutions aplenty now. I went with the Victory 4x4 short rack and the configuration options are limitless. Do some R&D and buy what fits your use case
• Transmission issues/failed transmissions/rough shifts at low speeds - I've noticed that this doesn't seem to happen when driving in Sport Mode (vs Normal or Eco), YMMV
• Small battery - huh?
• Key fob/rear door unlock & very limited range - Don't notice a deficiency here
• Easily chipped paint - Yep, especially on front fascia
