Most Disappointing Vehicle Ive Owned

My electric motor only runs at below 10mph. Here in the US the electric portion is solely for torque and the gasoline engine drive the vehicle over 10mph. I haven’t met anyone here that get anything about 18mpg
I suppose that's fair since you've only been here a while. But now you've met me, 19.3mpg over 41k miles, measured via fill-up and running on Costco regular.

20 mpg, 2" lifted and 285/75/R18 tires.

It’s easy to cheat just showing mpg so I like to show range as well. You still have not mentioned where your landcruiser was built. I’m beginning to think you probably don’t even own one and are just here to troll.

They found metal in the transmission fluid which flows through the hybrid unit, so all three are being replaced. My fear is the new assembly we’ll call it won’t be of any better quality.
While you have every reason to be upset by this experience, your fears aren't founded in reality. Yes, parts fail but you're chatting with a large number of people whose transmissions are working just fine. There's a statistically irrelevant chance of this reoccurring to you.

I think there are at least 5-6 folks on this forum alone who have had the exact same issue (including myself). The long backorder and wait for replacement transmissions is a sign of something more than just random background noise.

Time will certainly tell. Wishing you guys a speedy transmission replacement that will be the last the truck will ever see in its lifetime.

Yep, plus all the people that have had issues in the Tacoma/4runner which is the exact same Transmission/Drive-train.. It's definitely more than background noise but until someone has definitive data as to the cause/solution it's going to just be largely an unknown. That's not even including the transmission temperature issue that people have seen across the platforms.

Dealer installed 2” leveling kit with dealer installed 285 tires on TRD wheels. Total average distance on a tank of fuel as indicated on the dash 268 miles after a fill up. My 2019 Jeep Rubicon JLU 3.5” lift 35” Duratracs and full metal skid plates and accessories gets 10mph average. Why would you come at me like I don’t own one?

I have no idea where it was built. I am not in possession of the vehicle to find out. I can say I’ll be selling it after it is returned after hear of all the Toyota quality issues. I love the styling and the ride and was sold on the Toyota quality reputation. I can afford to be stranded on the highway or in an oil field with no one around.

Check your lemon laws for your state and see if you qualify.

The person you replied to was from Canada, which should have the exact same powertrain, if I'm not mistaken...

Yeah, this isn't a Prius or "economy hybrid", and the powertrain is tuned to use the hybrid electric motor more for power and torque than fuel economy savings, but it does help achieve improved MPG numbers none the less. It's also not very common, but I've definitely had mine go into full-electric mode while coasting on the highway (i.e. RPMs drop to zero), but the engine instantly kicks in if I apply any acceleration.

The electric motor does operate a lot though in normal driving conditions, generally during acceleration prior to the turbo spooling up.
What are you talking about? You have now met me, and I get well over 18mpg. Averaging 22.8 with normal driving around a Virginia city.

I currently average ~22 MPG overall, and often get as high as 26 MPG on highway trips... this is running in "normal" drive mode, and while I'm definitely not a speed demon, this is also with little concern for driving conservatively when it comes to fuel consumption.

Short trips around town, however, probably average anywhere 16-19 MPG.

I know I was a little bummed when I learned that, regardless of the LC being assemble in Japan, the T24A-FTS engine and the L580F transmission is built in the US. Yes, Tahara and Hino do final assembly, but drivetrain is built in the US.

You have documentation to share? On the surface, it does not make sense to make a component in the US, where labor is relatively high, ship it to Japan only to be shipped back to the US. For the Tacomas and Tundras, sure, but Japanese-made LC's? Toyota also has multiple engine plants around the world. So please provide references when you're dropping info like that.

Just going off what I read online. There is a lot of that that goes on in manufacturing, modern day supply chains and all that. It is probably more efficient since most of the products (especially the T24A-FTS) are used to go with the assembly of the NA built vehicles and a small number get used for Land Cruiser and 4Runner.

Some sources:

Thanks. However, none of those articles suggest the T24A is only made in the US. In the middle article you shared, it even mentions the vehicles they go into, more specifically only US-made models are included.

OK. I can play this game too - can you provide sources that say the T24A is made in Japan?

You are also being disingenuous with your citation there, the article about the transmission directly says they make it in Texas for the LC. Not hard to imagine same is true for an engine.

I realize this is the internet and people like to argue about stupid stuff and say wHaT IS yOUr SouRCE. I don't really care man. Just was posting some stuff I read. I'm out.

Ok, so for the OP and a few others here, the sky isn’t falling. It fell and crushed your hopes and dreams. That sucks for sure. The whole 5-6 people is laughable considering production numbers, so you expand into the tacoma to justify the weak data.

False correlations, ie it happened to the tundra so (implied) it’ll happen with the LC are just incorrect thinking in a vacuum chamber. You can’t make that comparison with any credibility.

We will never know the actual failure rates so get over it. If you can’t see the value in the LC, sell it and move on. These threads border on unjustified paranoia and adults should have the emotional maturity to deal with crappy circumstances without falling apart.

For those advocating for lemon law action, it’s not that easy as my vehicle broke and I’m waiting for a part. Lemon law is alot of hoops and conditions before you can make a case and if you are successful, you most likely will get a portion of what you paid because there’s depreciation involved that Toyota doesn’t have to pay you for. Toyota has a contract with you to fix your vehicle under warranty and that’s all they are obligated to do, pushing for more is simply unrealistic in almost all cases.

Still happy with my LC and if it breaks someday, Toyota will fix it.

.

Nice. Unlike you, I never made the claim they were made in Japan. You, however, made the claim that all T24's and L580F's are made in the US, to which your posted articles did not support.

All good, as I think we still got the bottom of that claim for the rest of the people consuming this thread.
