I've heard/read exactly what you said, 30s is sufficient, and even then only necessary if it's very cold. Like below 20f. Other than that, just don't jump in and slam on the gas and you'll be fine. Click and Clack were saying this on Car Talk more than 20 years ago, and those guys were no dummies. Every reputable source I can find backs this up. Search car myths, it's always there.

I would suspect, especially with our Toyotas the trans could use a warm-up more than the engine, but I don't think there's a way to do that ahead of time.

But of course, if you are doing 3k mile oil changes make sure you warm up for at least 10 minutes. (JK)
