Honest LC250 review that goes into more technical details & why Toyota missed the mark on LC250

For those who need a visual. I assigned a generous diesel % to each region. Notice Europe, Africa and Oceania combined are less than Middle East Sales in 2018. M.E. Sales have been strong for the past 20+ years. Not sure on Asia, too many countries. The answer is 50% of Land Cruiser are diesel, Not "vast majority."

You win. Clearly your data shows there are at least as many petrol Land Cruisers made as diesels.

You are one of the most ignorant, naive, obnoxious posters on this site. And you're wrong. Repeatedly.
Wow, I'm not even trying to be a d>k. I'm just reciprocating the hospitality. A few of us have a difference of opinion (Kai/Tinkerer too) and folks get butt hurt when you talk about their baby.

Now this forum is really coming to life! Way better than me discussing filling a gas tank/ Love it!!
Having a background in Epidemiology, its fun seeing how data can be manipulated (mangled).

As always, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I just want my ONE! In transit...SOON!
Back to oversized, noisy , gas sucking lifted, undertrayed, big dubbed on small wheels, laddered, tented, LEDs everywhere, portaled, auxiliary tanked, ecologically nightmarish discussions.............................surprised no one has commented on how many beers the center stack cooler can hold. Now that is useful information.o_O

I usually only manipulate financial data but I made an exception today. Toyota will never release official data and so my data and Winchester's data is all you have. His is especially comical with the 175k prototype LC250's that sold in 2023.
I said Prado/LC250. My apologies that was a typo. I meant to write Prado/J150.

Toyota claims just under 400,000 LC sold in 2023 and 107,000 were LC 300. So that leaves about 293,000 split between 70 series and J150 Prado. Based on past sales 175,000 as an estimate of how many those were J150 Prado.

The answer is six! Highly recommend the tray insert 3-D printed by members on her. That will knock it down to 4, but it’s removable.

This truck only needs some nitto g3 275 70 18 in sl rating that’s all

Oh, he’s not so bad. He just thinks a monster truck rally is an ultimate form of four wheeling. Each unto their own as they say.

I mean, I agree he’s completely wrong 90% of the time, No one should listen to him, but it’s free country.

I have much love for the GX550. My neighbor’s wife has the GX OT and so does my mom. They drive great Turbo. V6 is a great engine for that car.
School runs, soccer runs, wine club at Karen’s. It’s the ne plus ultra cool mom car.
Oh wait my wife drives a GX460.

Even the GX seem to get the hybrid option. I’m not sure if it’s the same powertrain out of the Land Cruiser 250 or Lx 700. Either will be an improvement for off road.

Your mom , wife and neighbors wife sure sound like they wear the pants in the relashionship . Cuz nothing screams testosterone like ripping through cvt gears of the iforcemax 4cyl hybrid

OUch, lighten up boys. Making me look good.

15/21 17mpg combined was a no go even if dealer was 2 hrs closer So that was strike 2. The front grille was strike 1. The touch screen was strike 3.
22/25 combined 23 makes for a much more efficient highway cruiser. I could care less what the rags get. They were trying to drive LC250 like a GX550 and mileage suffered. Easy enough to see.

There is a price differential. It shouldn't be that great IMHO so that assertion is a no go. (Entry GX550 v LC LC is the proper comparison) I see $77-86K for OT versions in my area. Lexus products are typically just overpriced Toyotas, sadly with questionable designs on many occasions. LF was no beauty queen either IMHO. LC500 has huge potential with a grille update but Piininfarina styling on the GTS were superior from any angle and nothing sounds better than the F136 from 6-7K in that sector. No different than Honda/Acura, VW/Audi, Nissan/Infiniti, Ford/Lincoln, Chevy/Buick, etc...Profit margins .........

I will say is the author titling of this thread apparently thinks they know more than Toyota which is quite laughable considering the sales success. I didn't wait this long for my X5D build back in 2011. I found Jason Cammisa's review to be the most laughable one I watched to date. He proved himself to be quite the a@s.
If it remotely feels from a driver's seat perspective like my wife's beloved 1991 Mitsu Montero LS, it will be her new favorite all time. How time advances, 140 wheezy HP that got 15-16 mpg.......in 2wd mode and could barely climb steep hills and maintain reasonable speed. We complain about such petty issues and most are too young too remember what we used to drive. Even the Jeep XJ?? has modernized. The old Bronco was a clumsy dog compared to the new one, etc. I could go on as some of you know.

It's not what is "BETTER", it's what you want and the reason you want it for. If it lives up to its reputation, it will be a 10yr vehicle for us living a nice life mountainside. I think 10.5 years is the longest ownership ever for me. By then , we may finally have flying cars................or SS energy packs that weigh far less than ICE........dark matter is the answer!

Except that it doesn’t have a CVT transmission. Painful to have to read so often from people about how Toyota should have never put in a teeny tiny β€œV4” engine where a big manly V8 should go or that it has a β€œCVT” transmission.

5.7l V8

13/18 15 combined... Outdated tech. But manly for those needing a compensatory motor., thinking its a drag racer. Plenty of towing vehicles out there.

Your insecurity is showing, little guy.

You’re missing the point. The LC70 is purpose-built for a very narrow market segment: military, mining, agriculture, NGO use in remote terrain. The LC250 is built for a much broader global market where regulations, safety, and efficiency demands are different. Just because it doesn’t carry forward the LC70’s leaf-spring, live-axle simplicity doesn’t mean it’s not built with purpose. Its β€œpurpose” is to balance capability with modern global requirements. That’s why Toyota is selling it alongside the LC70 rather than replacing it.

On the engine point, I’m not making numbers up. Look at what militaries and heavy-use fleets actually spec: Hilux diesels, LC70 diesels, Prado diesels, G-Wagon diesels, even Defender diesels. When your life, your team, or your operation depends on it, diesel’s low-end torque and reliability win. If the twin-turbo V6 were the superior global off-road choice, Toyota would be specifying it worldwide. They’re not.

And the Prado/LC250 isn’t some mall crawler. They’re in regular use by the United Nations, rural police forces, up-armored rural VIP transport, utility and construction workers, and a host of other demanding off-highway applications. These are real-world, high-stakes deployments that prove the platform is more than capable.

The LC250 doesn’t β€œreplace” the 70. It was never supposed to. But to dismiss it as β€œnot carrying the nameplate”legacy ignores that Toyota continues to dominate markets that demand both durability and capability.

Spent many years of my life in the military, the United States moved away from 'Petrol' decades ago. Virtually all militaries utilize diesels, makes a lot more logistical sense and far less of a fire hazard.

The LC250 with the I4/Hybrid is the best suited combination offered for a market like North America, with the highest HP/Torque rating globally. Unlike in Europe, Americans wouldn't settle for 'agricultural' power figures. The LC's I4 is about as basic as they can build in 2024/2025 and it will have a plethora of service parts anywhere (and technicians familiar with this I4), regardless of where you're at, being that this engine is being installed in virtually everything Toyota builds right now.

I just spent a few days in Moab, UT with around 8-hours on the trail. The 2.4kW inverter worked amazing to charge my 1kW power station from 0-100% in one hour which will run my fridge for several days and all my camp needs (inverter cooking, electric kettle, fan, etc). Left it in Park, had it blowing ice cold air as we slept in the back using the one hour auto shut off feature.

Is it a hardcore rock crawler, of course not. It's a globally produced vehicle that's at home in the city or on the trail, and maintaining a reasonable tire size (33") there should be no issues with broken CV's or the IFS.

While a diesel sounds cool, modern diesels in America are trash due to emissions equipment. (Good) Gas engines last well over 200,000-miles if maintained. I mean, heck, Toyota has built several North American gas engines that easily last 250-400,000 miles without lifting a valve cover. My families owned three, lowest mileage one is at 220,000-miles.

Also, got 25.2-mpg from Salt Lake City to Moab and 25.1-mpg on the trip back to Salt Lake City from Moab. Couldn't ask for anything more out of it.

Well said. Were you doing 75 or 80? Curious as I am deadly consistent and in my RR's 5 mph was easily 1+mpg. Were you on the stock 245's? because that smaller OD will inflate your numbers a bit on display unless you did REAl calculations. Still a 5400++lb vehicle with aero like a brick getting 23-25mpg is prettydamn amazing

Militaries use diesel for a lot of reasons, it’s harder to ignite, it has one grade, it’s used in generators as well as vehicles (which simplifies logistics), and diesel engines freed from emissions standards have proven long life and reliability standards. Low torque performance is a perk, but probably not the most important one.

As to the general arguments, not sure I understand them well enough to opine. My view is that longevity will determine which platform is best and only time will tell. My LC has been very useful for overlanding and the type of off-roading I do here in the US, but if I was into crazy rock crawling I would get a jeep platform and adapt from there. And if I did that, I wouldn’t also be able to park in my garage. So to some extent all the wild offroad features, while fun for limited purposes, aren’t wildly material for my use case. I don’t like the way the Lexus looks and in the real world the Lexus OT+ costs a lot more than my LC did, so it was a pretty easy choice. If cost and availability had been the same, I don’t know which I would have chosen.

Those claiming negligible price differences off MSRP have probably not set foot in a dealership. The differential you have seen is correct.
