lots of talk about Engine outputs being similar between LC250 and Gx550. if anyone in socal want to do a back to back comparison and report back here i have a GX OT that we can use. we can also do a MPG comparison to settle all the MPG, power debates once and for all. but i can 100% percent assure you than the power deliveries are not even comparable. the GX feels like it has 100 more HP than my LC250 at any speed. when it comes to gas mileage it is too close on the fwy speeds and 2mpg less on the city streets in my route. my fellow socal LC250s, PM me if you are available for a semi scientific test
Why do you need a donor LC to conduct your ā€œsemi scientificā€ testing? You have both and have unscientifically compared the two already. Literally every post you talk about how the GX550 is better in every single way. I don’t let my enthusiasm for the LC cloud me into fact-denying and objectivity bending.

I have said for people who consistently want to tow more than 6k lbs and I would add, people who get really excited about 0-60 and hard acceleration away from stoplights and stop signs and ā€œlive life a quarter mile at a timeā€ in their rugged body on frame SUV, the GX is a far superior car. I would argue that there are far better tools for that type of spirited driving though so consider it a somewhat hollow victory. Rather than burnouts from dead stops, I find 30-50 and 50-70 MPH acceleration far more relevant to my daily driving to merge, get onto highways and shoot gaps between cars when I’m changing lanes and for all those situations, the LC drivetrain is just as powerful and quick as the GX (not my opinion but car mag tested facts).

Also, if you happen to skew very heavily towards sustained high-speed highway driving (as in spend the preponderance of your time in your automobile driving not only mostly highway, but mostly 70+ MPH highway), the MPG penalty between the GX vs the LC closes a lot because they are both unable to overcome basic aerodynamic challenges and drag and wind coefficients aren’t linear as speeds increase. In all other driving scenarios the LC gets meaningfully better mileage than the GX.

You, on the other hand, put 34.5ā€ load C tires with more aggressive treads on them on the LC and drive the GX550 with OEM issued half-tread Toyo AT3s in 32.6ā€ size SL rated and say the MPG difference between the two is negligible.

I am very much the data>opinion type but will conclude with, sell your LC and enjoy driving around in your super futuristic looking, bedazzled, Lexus.

Which is $7k higher than LC Premium at 68k, and it comes with futures not present on OT like overhead vents, 14 speaker audio, 2400W inverter, real leather and digital rear view mirror.

Not at all. Like I said in the previous post non premium lc lc is the sweat spot at 60k mark after discounts , where it is still in the price range that is somewhat acceptable for the drivetrain and still 15-20k below the OT mark. As a matter of fact had I purchased a lclc trim from day one instead of 1958, I’d still be driving that and would see no need to pay the premium for the gx OT. When I started looking into purchasing another lc , I knew it had to be a base lc lc and the inventory seemed to have completely dried up with only a few premiums available with 5k discount around 65k price point, but then at that range I would take the preimum gx. Landcruiser is a lovely car . My only issue with it is the price point relative to the completion. It is just too damn expensive for what you are getting as is the 4Runner higher variants. At 70k price range you can get any luxury midsize, full size suvs such as x5, to hardcore off-roaders with much higher capability such as bronco raptor, f150 raptor, ram RHO etc. Toyota has lost its mind with the offerings at this price point . So to sum up had I been able to get a blue lclc at 60k I would have purchase one and would never look back. It is a great vehicle for 60k, but the closer you get to the gx price point the eaisier it was for me to pay more to get more

Feel like you could have started with this.

Good thing about $ is you get to chose how to spend it.

Some prefer Lc, some prefer gx. Others like the 4Runner.

It’s a bold strategy by Toyota to bring 3 massively similar cars to the market at the same time but man do I see a lot of these new models driving around coastal southern ca.

A 1958 is a different car inside altogether… though still a brilliant drivetrain for the price given many could be had with a discount. Some people who love the GXs and the Twin Turbo V6 in them still say that the interior of the LC Premiums/First Editions is nicer or preferable… just like some LC owners say they wish the engine in the GX was offered in their cars. You sir, bought a super low trim LC and it doesn’t reflect the interior of anything remotely approaching $70k… it’s is in fact far more simple and stripped down vs a GX550, apples and oranges.

I would personally never ever cross shop a Land Cruiser Premium or First Edition with a Bronco Raptor or F150 Raptor or Ram Rho even at the same exact price point. My tastes and priorities don’t veer towards stadium trucks and I think the Raptor versions of anything are far too wide to be nimble on trails. I use my LC to access beautiful spaces for trail running, hiking, and dispersed camping and winter activities. Some of the roads get rough, but I don’t try to out Jeep or Bronco hard core rock crawlers on 37s who literally set out on the day specifically to see if they can traverse ultra technical territory and place giant wheels on giant boulders and don’t really care to have super loud cars with bad pavement manners. At the same time, you’d never see me cross shopping a LC with a BMW X5 or Mercedes GLE, Audi Q7, etc… because I don’t care that they accelerate faster, have more futuristic or posh interiors or cost as much. I mean I’m well aware that for the price of my First Edition I could be driving a BMW, Volvo, Audi or Mercedes instead of a lowly Toyota. I don’t really care. But for a fully made in Japan BOF, full time 4WD car that is comfortable enough, luxurious enough, reliable, and super capable with reasonable gas mileage… not sure it’s as fungible as you think.
