I finally got past my solo soft gravel off road adventuring (70+yo newb). The Land Cruiser Association has an annual Meet & Greet of Series 70 LC owners at Windrock, TN. Long story short I got my fill of MODERATE off roading for two days.
I had face plants, butt rubs and some serious rock sliding. The only mods are General Grabber ATX 275-70-18s and RCI Rock Sliders. On day one I told the spotter there was no way (I could make it up the rocky climb). He replied,"yes you can", and I did or rather the 1958 did. So I experienced nose dives but no nose 'bleeds'. The butt drug but no issues. I did bang on the rock rails multiple times but they served their purpose-no sheet metal damage. My scars are pin stripes and 2 wheels that were dinged.
Of note, the front air dam is intact. The mud flaps are also in tact. The 1958 is a beast that can do more than many of believe it can do in virtually stock form. I am going to repeat myself, add AT tires (mine are SL rated) and rock sliders (The RCI are terrific) and just go.
Disclaimer, I have not done soft sand, deep mud or crazy rocks.
P.S. I did wimp out at The Rock Garden on Trail 11. I knew I could do the climb but frankly I did not want to damage my vehicle so I turned around. It is a great lesson to learn-when to say no.
