AUX switches?

Garmin has a switch box that is compatible with CarPlay now. Probably a good clean option for the LC given the limited real estate. Probably what I’ll do if/when I add any accessories.

Ooohh.....while it is expensive, I do really like the thought of using CarPlay to control stuff. However, that may also pose some cons in that you'd have to have the car on and phone connected in order to turn something on. Hmmmm.....tradeoffs.

On second thought, I guess you don't necessarily need to have the truck on and CarPlay set up since it's running on an app on the phone. I guess as long as power is driven from an Accessory power source (via relay), you could stand outside the truck with your phone and turn the light bar on or whatever. That could be handy with a compressor as well.

How long have these been out? Any data on durability?

Yeah, I have had an InReach Mini for several years and it seems pretty solid.

This is totally wireless. Push a button and it sends a signal to the trigger unit under the hood. I’m not sure if it’s Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. You don’t even have to use these switches. You could just use the app on your phone.

It comes with a little magnetic plate. I use double-sided tape and mounted the magnetic plate to my dash in my 4runner and just slap this switch back onto it.

Someone commented on the image of this solution (versus the thread) and I had to do a deeper dive. I didn't realize the switch controller is battery-poweredand not hardwired into the truck's power. So, there is potentially definitely going to be times when I haven't charged the battery and I need it. That is a definite non-starter, at least, it is for me.

From the Trigger website: For replacement cells please purchase CR2025 for the 4 Plus controller, CR2032 for the 6 Shooter controller…these are readily available at most brick-and-mortar and online shops.

Just carry a spare coin cell.

Also, you can use the app on the phone, android or iOS. The app has added functionality.

Sure wish they would take a trick out of the jeep play book. My wrangler has 4 aux switches nicely built in to the dash and all the wiring is already run through the fire wall and ends in a nice pigtail up near the grill and battery. Actual wiring up of 2 sets of KC's took minutes.

Just curious - what year/model? My '18 JLU Sahara MT had no extra aux switches...it had space for them, but no "dummy" switches that had any wiring. Rubi maybe?

If you get a Jeep with a trailer tow package, it also includes 4 Auxiliary switches beside the Locker switches. (Lower center dash)

All, I failed to look into this during my test drive a few weeks ago. Are there any Auxilliary switches available in the new LC similar to what they are putting into the 6th Gen 4Runner (see picture).

These are for adding your own devices (light bar, compressor, etc.) without having to add an aftermarket switch panel like a Switch Pros.

For anyone wanting to add some OEM style switches, hang in there! There is a member, SkookumOffroad, who produced a panel and I tested it for him. The trim panel will add three OEM style "cube" switches to the panel under the AC controls. It looks like it came from the factory!

The trim panel comes off very easily using a plastic trim tool. You will need to transfer the orange "arrow" shaped fasteners. I found using two hook tools and gently spreading the tabs apart worked well. The retainers clipped into the new panel very securely.

Looking at photos & the quick reference guide, it looks like depending on the trim there are a couple blanks to the left of the wheel, one to the right next to the "TOW HAUL" switch, and that one in the center next to the camera view switch. I agree with @EOD Guy that last location would probably be the easiest place to modify and add several switches. Otherwise it's four blanks scattered across several locations. Ok if you have only one thing to add I guess?

Edit: that upper right spot is used for fog lights, so only one blank on the left for US models.

Someone should design a periscope or mirror(s) to see the fog lights switch. Toyota needs to hire human factors engineers.

I'm wiring an LED Light bar into my switch panel this week. And got a CH4x4 OEM style switch to add into the blank spot in the switch panel to the left of the steering wheel. The layout of the existing switches seems a little arbitrary and I'd like to swap some of them around, specifically moving the fog light switch to a location easier to see than where it is. Has anyone tried to rearrange these? Enough slack in wiring harnesses? About to tackle it with @EOD Guy 's helpful posts!

OEM switches are usually notched and harness length is specific to switch location. I’ve rearranged switches on many previous Toyotas so it’s possible.
Still unable to find an aftermarket switch with white backlighting.

The problem you might run into with rearranging the switches......... Some of the OEM switches are keyed to specific cavities with little plastic "rails" (either on the switch/cavity) and the matching "slots" on the Switch/cavity. So they would only fit into a specific cavity etc......

On my Taco, I shaved the rails off and managed to put the OEM switches where I wanted. By modifying the loom you should get 2-3" of slack.

A little follow up... Moving the switches is not difficult. There's plenty of slack in the wiring harnesses behind each switch to move them where you prefer. Previous posters are correct in that the switches are dedicated to their respective slots by some "rails" which fit into specific grooves but you can just file the linear ridges/rails off the top and bottom of the switches and they slide in anywhere. They still click into place even with the ridges removed. More photos to follow when I've finished the wiring to the LED light bar.

Got my CH4x4 "OEM style"switch installed. It's not quite OEM looking. Not quite as matte black as the factory ones, and the LED light bar icon is blue instead of white lettering like the factory switches, but still looks fine. I was able to tap into the dash lighting circuit so the icon lights up when dash lights come on, and then the blue LED above comes on only when the switch is on. Here are some terrible photos, sorry, of the dash with the switch off then on. Then followed with a couple quick photos of the headlights only, then the light bar turned on.... Wow!

It would be ideal to have a relay that allowed me to connect to the high beam circuit, preventing me from having the light bar on by accident while in low beam with an oncoming car, but I don't plan to use it unless off road so its kind of nice having it in an always on circuit for temporary use while setting up camp, etc. (just have to remember not to leave it running for the sake of my battery, when ingnition off)/
