Air Compressors - Best type to keep in LC?

FWIW, I’ve been using this portable air compressor. I’ve used it several times now to air back up and it’s worked great. I’m on stock size 265/70R18 tires and typically air down to around/a little over 20 psi, this would air the tires back up at least three times, maybe five, on a single charge.

That thing looks perfect for me.

ARB Twin permanently installed in the rear quarter driver side, with an outlet and switch in the bottle jack compartment.

If you’re DIY & need air other places recommend Milwaukee 2848-20. Set air pressure & walk away. Good size M18 battery in 5.0 ah lithium or larger & your good to go.

I’m in the process of installing the ARB twin portable compressor on my LC. I had opted for portable originally but didn’t like having the big case taking up space and sliding all over the place. Also my case was cracked and split on the bottom and they don’t sell a replacement case. I wanted to install it under the hood but I have so many other things conflicting with the location it would need to be installed (winch power distribution kit, portal axle oil catch cans). I opted for the SDHQ mount that installs above the rear exhaust. I had to modify the bracket because it also conflicts with the reservoir mounts for my rear shocks. I also couldn’t install the heat shield because it would sit directly against my aftermarket exhaust. And the orientation of the air outlet on the portable version is underneath the compressor, not on top. Which means once it’s installed it’s a nightmare if you need to remove the air line. Requires removing the bracket from the undercarriage and removing the compressor from the bracket. I spent about 10 hours Sunday mounting it and running the power cable, switch cable, air filter relocation (also conflicted with portal oil catch can mount) and air line. I could not find a grommet in the floor to run them so I ended up going through the driver side tail light grommet. Obviously to run the ARB power cable I had to remove the connector on the end to get the wire ends through the grommet. The issue I’m having now is that the wire connectors don’t want to snap back in the connector. They seat ok but they don’t click. I have to inspect the connector itself and see if I damaged the locking mechanism. I can use the secondary lock to hold it in place but it’ll bother me if it isn’t right. I also had to make the switch cable from scratch and used metri pack 150 to match the arb switch connectors. Having the same issue with them not wanting to snap into place correctly. It could be because I’ve now done it a dozen times practicing getting the right crimp which is even difficult with the correct tool. The air chuck and switch will go where the bottle jack is. I found a mount for the ford bronco that fits properly but I have to drill a hole in the bottom of the bottle jack mount. I’ll attempt that on Wednesday when I’m off. I also need to get the proper fitting for the ARB air chuck which was hard to find. Need a 1/4 jic to 1/4 npt elbow. That will take about a week to arrive in the mail. I’ll post some photos once it’s done, works, and doesn’t leak. If it doesn’t work it’s an absurd waste of time and money. I’m already over it to be honest haha.

Here is what I’m looking at as I like Viair as I’ve had them in multiple vehicles and one setup I have on my Ram 2500 is over 15 years old and still going.
For the LC it is the Viair TLC pro as it has a .25 tank on it. And the Viair 7 pin plug adapter.

I've used Viair for years. I chose to mount mine under-hood vs portable.

Hard wired is definitely good. That is all what I have now. Portable was just a nice option to transfer to other vehicles if need be. Way better options now days than 20 years ago.

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago, added a 6aH battery. Aired up a dead flat utility trailer tire quickly. Handy piece of equipment.

Hello,
One thing I will be doing for sure is beach driving in Hatteras where airing down can be key. I was looking at portable air compressors to keep with me in the truck at all times. There are numerous choices and price points.
Does anyone have recommendations or experience with these?
TIA
I went through a few of the handheld and smaller choices on Amazon and they worked but were slow and lost charge very quickly. I went all in and bought the new(ish) ARB brushless. It is awesome. It is way too expensive.

Proving my ignorance- do you have an air hose to reach all the tires for inflation ?!
Yes, more than enough to reach with the normal arb hose. My setup has changed since, and the outlet is also now on the side of my drawer storage system

I assume this is not the Hybrid LC? the 12V battery is supposed to be in this place no? your 12v battery is located in the engine area or back?
Non-hybrid yes.
