2024 Land Cruiser windshield

Posted this on another thread, but it took me over 3 months to get a new windshield. What seemed to expedite the process was making a case number through Toyota corporate and then - after seeing the ETA continually being pushed back - complaining/asking if I can return the vehicle since no windshield was available. They are also expensive! $2,000-3,000. Luckily, I only had a $50 deductible through Progressive. Hoping my new windshield lasts longer than the first!

Done some research. DID discover that XPEL recently came out with a solid windshield film and its supposedly awesome. This was from Youtube with all videos posted within the last 5 months. But with that i feel its a bit too soon to tell with longevity.

I asked my tint guy that ive been going to for 5 years about it and his take. He also agreed that its still new tech. He also has heard its not fully clear (who knows with the new xpel product). Also after time with passes from the wipers, it leaves scratch marks on the film. So that would be annoying for sure. Its meant to be replaced every 2 years. Material itself ranges from $300+ alone. I got a quote from someone nearby, parts/labor $450.

Just had XPEL PPF added to our new LC, including the windshield. The installers did mention that other customers w/ Jeeps, Broncos, etc drive through mud etc and then use the wipers can leave smudges/streaks/scratches, but they have ways to restore clarity (to a degree) and if its under the warranty period will replace it if its bad enough. Figured we'd give it a shot, time will tell.

I received this email today from my dealer:
The windshield is in transit. We are seeing 300 in transit from Ontario. Once they get through customs, they're sent to New York parts distribution center. Then we will have an ETA. I will check with our parts department daily to see what is happening.

Post-script. I pushed hard on Toyota Corporate and, after being dismissed by their "Customer Advocate" (that's rich), I left a critical review of the interaction and was quickly contacted by Toyota Brand Engagement. They gave me a case number and then a few weeks later gave me an ETA of early May. The windshield arrived last week and was installed. That's the good news. Now USAA is giving me a hard time and trying to cut some labor $$ off of what they will reimburse because I didn't go through Safelite for the repair, when Safelite didn't have the windshield. So kudos to Toyota on their response (that you have to push for), but insufficient repair/replacement stock is still ridiculous. And now I have to fight with USAA. It's always something. Good luck!

I've been dealing with Toyota Corporate as well as one of these customer advocates. It's getting to be a bit of a runaround in the sense that I was told earlier this week that the windshield will be in between middle and end of May and the Customer Advocate called today to say the windshield will be in middle to end of June. Like you, I've started to leave factual comments on their public facing brand page, which has garnered a response. I asked the dealership whether they'd buy the car back, and they said they would, but on a year-old car, I'd have to eat the depreciation. So, that's a bad deal. So, choices are drive around with the busted windshield or leave the car to sit or sell it back at the depreciated price with a busted windshield. Things I wish I'd known a year ago.

Finally got a rock that caused a significant chip that instantly turned into a crack that continues to grow (over a foot now).
My beef is that the dealer says windshields are delayed at least 6 months to a year.
Who makes cars without replacement parts!?!?! I never would have purchased the vehicle if I was told that I woudn't be able to replace the windshield.
I find this to be utterly frustrating and frankly, I question the safety as the crack increases in size. A significantly cracked windshield cannot be as safe as a normal windshield.
Toyota corporate was pathetic and of no help. The local dealer claims to be trying, but without success, and that might just be lip service.
I like my Land Cruiser, even despite it averaging under 20 mpg, but this strikes me as a deal breaker.
My windshield just arrived. I tried to order through my usual auto glass company. I ended up placing an order with half down with the dealer. The windshield arrived a week later.

After being told that I could expect the windshield in mid-May in late April, getting mid- to late-June arrival as of two days ago. Have gone about as far up with Toyota NA as possible, having contacted the executive office. Just seems like the windshield isn't available and is delayed coming from Japan, and Toyota doesn't really care. Disappointing, but I feel like I've beaten this to death with Toyota. I've also initiated the "buy back process", just to see what that is like, and it's interesting because Toyota keeps attempting to fit this within the state lemon law. I don't think this is a lemon law issue, so much as failure to have sufficient part stock available, and failure to warn consumers about the lack of parts at the time of purchase, but I understand why they are framing it that way. At the end of the day, that approach won't go anywhere. Oh well. Still love driving the car. Toyota should probably go slower on releasing new models in the future.

The first thing we had done to my wife’s new GX was some window protection (not Xpel, can’t remember the brand but it was Rhino something I think). The brand was newer to the installer but he said supposedly no issues with windshield wipers. It has some hydrophobic properties so it performs similar to RainX.

When I get my LC250, it’s going to be the first thing I add.
